Fav
Verona Italy, gorgeous city, best outdoor market Ive ever seen, amazing food. upscale

Prague, castles, cheap incredible beer, awesome nightlife, good food

Yosemite National Park, camping under giant redwoods, 2000 foot waterfalls, insane hikes, endless things to see, everything was close and easy to get to

Worst
Philadelphia PA, Black folks, drugs, people are nasty, extremely unsafe

Memphis TN, the scariest US city Ive ever visited. We never felt safe anywhere.

Hollywood California, a complete tourist trap, dirty as shit, homeless drug addicts everywhere, traffic and parking were ridiculous, it was one giant disappointment

    Fav:
    >Smokey Mountains I’m NC/Tennessee. The landscape is beautiful and there is a lot of our door and stupid fun tourist stuff to do. No humidity and the weather is great
    >St. Augustine, Fl. I really enjoy the aesthetics of all the buildings and still has a nice small town feel. It’s a little touristy but not as bad as places like Orlando
    >San Diego. The best big city I’ve been too. The weather is great, and never felt unsafe waking around down town. I’m also a craft beer lover and breweries every where
    Worst:
    >LA. The place is very over rated, trashy, and way to many people. The air felt bad too. Hollywood is def a shit hole, and got lost in Mexi town
    >New Orleans. The weather is shit and humid. morons everywhere. Bourbon Street smells like vomit and piss, felt like I was gonna get an STd by walking in a bar. Yes the food is good but can get the same food at better Louisiana towns
    >Jackson, Mississippi. Just a horrible city all around, same problems as New Orleans, just zero charm what so ever. The suburbs are okay, but don’t make up for it.
Yeah I’m pretty shelters and haven’t visit much outside the US besides the Caribbean. Lots of places in the US though

Fav, in order of visiting, not ranked
-Tokyo, got laid a few times after a 15 year dry spell. I'd considered suicide but spending 3 months there gave me a new lease on life.
-Saigon, loved the sprawl, chaos, cheap lifestyle. Stayed for a few years.
-Central Laos. Spent 4 weeks caving, rock climbing, and living outdoor adventures I'd dreamed of since I was a kid.

    Worst:
-Las Vegas. It is what it is, but it wasn't for me. Having to fight off a junkie when I took the wrong exit from a mall makes it the worst.
-Colchester, UK. Why the fuck did I go there? Not terrible, just boring, and bad weather.
-Los Angeles. I'm listing it because I don't really have any terrible destination. I was there in February and two separate Black History month pamphleteers called me a Slave Master for ignoring them.

There's not much to tell. Probably a meme story on /trv. I went through a long list of terrible life events, both by my own fault and out of my control. Hated my job and considered quitting but I was terminated before I had the chance. I had severance pay and nothing else going for me. My apartment lease was up and I moved my stuff to storage, decided to go to Japan for a few months and maybe end it afterwards or along the way. Once in Japan, I spent a week or two adjusting, and I realized that having daily challenges in life made existential problems go on the back burner.
Met a girl on Tinder while it still was a "friend finder" in Asia. Used her as a tour guide and went to a love hotel a few times. It was casual and I met another girl, who was clingy and (I soon discovered) crazy. Met another. Made friends with Japanese guys and girls (and some expats) and developed a social circle - which didn't last longer than my trip, but amazed me by how easy it was when I wasn't wrapped up in my own head.
Decided that life really wasn't so bad, at least as long as it stayed interesting. And decided not to kill myself and instead looked for ways to earn a living remotely. Applied for jobs until I got one.
In my opinion, the destination I chose was irrelevant. I'd often thought to myself "before I kill myself, I'll go to X country/location". They've varied over the years: California, Africa, India, Japan. When it was time, my destination was Japan. I guess I didn't really want to die because instead of taking the quick jump off an expressway bridge, I actually visited the destination I'd dreamed about. I'm glad I did, and now many years later, I've got kids and I'm happier than I've ever been before. Happier than many of my old friends back in my home country. I wouldn't change a thing.

Did you learn any Japanese when you were in Japan? I plan on going to Japan in the near future, not to get laid but for many, many reasons. The nature is amazingly beautiful, the people there are really reserved and modest, I feel like it's probably one of the best places to visit but i wouldn't know since I've never been there :p

          >It amazed me how easy it was when I wasn't wrapped up in my own head

This is exactly why I urge people to go backpacking. When you spend a couple weeks (or months, or years) doing the backpacking thing, every day offers something new and you get a new perspective on your problems. I can't explain why, maybe it's because when you're backpacking you tend to make last minute decisions ("Fuck it, I'll skip Nice and take the train to Marseille!") and that makes you realise that you can make decisions about the more important things in your life too.
There is a phenomenon that astronauts come back to Earth with a greater interest in environmental concerns, altruism etc. Because seeing the whole world as just a ball of blue and green has some crazy effects on their beliefs. I think backpacking is kind of similar.

    >Best

    >Athens, Greece
Never been somewhere so romantic yet so shitty. Gritty, dirty big city, juxtaposed against a majestic, historic and captivating place full of winding old streets. Beautiful beaches, weird commie anarchist neighbourhoods, vibrant music/arts/history, riot police on every corner at all times, crumbling post-modern architecture and beautiful outdoor cafes. Also beautiful girls, cheap whores and good food.

    >Barcelona, Spain.
Not going to go down well on sighsee but I’ve never had a bad vibe in this city. Big, cosmopolitan and international, modern yet loads of incredibly beautiful streets and neighbourhoods. Constantly has good events, great music/performance scenes and amazing restaurants/bars, imo some of the best in Europe.

In summer, Barcelona transforms into a sunny party city and attracts some of the most incredible women in the world and has one of the best party scenes in Europe.

One thing that I also like about Barcelona is the fact that it’s very much populated with normal, everyday Spanish people and families. Something that is pretty much lost on all of the other big international Western European cities.

    >Worst
    >Agadir, Morocco.

Filthy Islamic shithole from head to toe. Literally nothing redeeming, interesting or nice about the place. Full of scammers, child beggars, dirty beaches and disgusting food. No history, no historic architecture, zilch.

Literally the only redeeming aspect is the weather in Winter.

    >London, England.
I’ve spent more time here than any of the aforementioned cities, IMO London is a soulless, godless place at this stage with very little of value left. Every time I even step foot in London at this point I get this crippling feeling of hopelessness and dread. The people, the local culture and everything in between is just off. It feels like an airport.

Absolutely spot on about Athens. I just visited last week and loved the city. Saw a dude just pissing in a bush on a busy footpath, got called a "stingy boy" by a cute gypsy girl for not giving her money and saw a morbidly obese man with vomit on his shirt stumbling around Monastriaki.
      Amazing place.

    Fav:
    1) Shanghai, China (pre-covid) - you could get everything from craft beer to local arcades to some authentic chinese shit. There were tons of interesting places from first ever vegan restaurant in the world to skybars serving Shaoxing rice wine (I developed taste of that stuff) to very modern and very impresive Bund - all in span of 5km and all different to western equivalents (or even to other Asian cities). Such a shame of what happens to China lately. I hope that CCP finally dies during my lifetime.

    2) Taba, Egypt - new favorite vacation spot. Mountains of Sinai Peninsula look absolutely epic during sunrise. During sunset sunlight illuminates other side of gulf of Aqaba, resulting with that sight of wide, red, horizontal strip of light - I've never seen anything like it elsewhere. In between of sunrise and sunset it's usual, fun, sunbath > swim > drink routine.

    3) Manhattan, New York - I was there in 1998 and 20 years later and for anyone who grew on popculture, this place is like Mecca for muslims. From Battery Park to Harlem, you literally can't substitute it with anything else.

    Worst:
    1) Whatever capital of Bangladesh is - I won't even bother checking it's name right now. It's like if worst muslim shithole and worst indian shithole had a baby. Cockroaches were in size of mice. Mice were in size of rats and rats could eat human baby with one bite. I've spent there only few hours of my life sometime in 2000 and I will never forget it.

    2) Łódź, Poland - most filthy and depressing city of Poland. Probably worst shithole of EU. It's like Polish Detroit, except that it was never great. Everytime I had to go there felt like an undeserved punishment.

    3) Bronx, New York - literal moron shitholes in Africa feel more safe than this moron shithole.

Had many hours between flights, also I needed to make visa in advance to go outside. Airport was very representative for whole place: despite warm and wet climate everything (bathrooms included!) was covered with thick textile, that was rotting and smelled bad. Outside everything was rotting and stinked as well, so thematic integrity was kept.

I remember food in Bengal airlines was good though: more similar to traditional restaurant than bland airplane food (despite my worries, it went without diarrhea).

When I think about this, maybe I'll give Bangladesh another chance. In 22 years places and people do change.

Worst: Beijing - I basically responded to this thread because I wanted to shit on Beijing. Prague - Cheap, castles, honest guides helped a ton, met a decent amount of locals and had a great time. Beer girl at the little beer shack on your way out of Prague Castle, I still miss our fun times.

I would imagine one of the things to do in London is seeing some world class theater. But I would imagine that like in NYC it is crazy expensive. I saw Book of Mormom on Broadway and just one ticket cost me $199... But it was worth it, you it was like watching well trained racing horses, they were just so good at acting and signing, the set design was amazing, the script by Matt and Trey Parker was on point. I got the impression that if I wanted to see Hamilton the tickets would have been more expensive at like $300 at the time.

England produces such good actors that most Americans don't know or are slow to realize that their favorite "American/Hollywood" actors are British. As a Wire fan(HBO series) I was shocked to learn that Idris Elba was a British born black, he was and is that damn good of an actor and he has nailed American English in general and in the case of the Wire, the Baltimore accent. As I understand it a lot of these English actors start out in London theater(unlike many American Hollywood actors who eschew theater).

Personally I won't visit London(I live in the near suburbs of NYC so I see little reason from the theatrical angle), but I know many of their theaters have a strong global reputation. But you will like pay out of the nose for the experience since many of the rich globetrotters likely love it as well, driving up prices just like with top Broadway productions.

English actors act like it’s a job and they are damned good at it. They’ll do movies and TV, and then do live theater just for fun or to keep their skills up. American actors will do a movie per year and then shake their tits or dicks for TMZ.

but even worse than the foreigners are the local brits. If you've interacted with brits abroad you'll realize why hookah with Ahmed is a better hangout than Elizabeth and her chav friends. I think you even subconsciously recognize this as true since your best advice for enjoying london is to go to a pub and get so shitfaced drunk you think fucking plaques make the trip worth it.

How much fun you have in Vienna depends on how much dough you have to spend. The really good bars and restaurants are pricey. But the architecture and museums are world class for sure. And the university is really rad at night on the weekends. Everyone sits out and drinks beer in the parks. I think you'd be insane to skip Vienna if you were doing a Czech-Budapest train ride.

I think it's also a question of doing your research. i had a place by the nachtmarket, "lots of history" they said, and it turns out it's just some concrete shithole. I walk the wrong way for 5 minutes, and I'm in some dystopian commie-block dead neighbourhood where nothing moves.
          > museums
are pretty boring and repetitive, once you visit two you've really seen them all.

I thought Vienna was really dull aside from one or two niche spots. The 20th century architecture is exceptionally soulless by European standards. I would maybe give it a go a second time and come with a bigger wallet if someone encouraged me but first time just wasn't it, compared to the SOVL in Budapest, Kraków, or even Ljubljana.

Hard to be sad when you distract yourself with the complications of getting from point A to point B. Probably why traveling is addictive because it's a great distraction to mundane shit.

Last time I was in Minca was a bit more than 10 years ago. The natural bay is beautiful, but the town itself was a fucking dive. The beach was filthy with garbage, the town was full of cheap, ramshackle hostels and there were skanky dreadlocked deadshit backpacker-fags everywhere. The roads were all broken and potholed, when it rained the streets filled with water and there were stray dogs roaming all over. I couldn't believe how this place was so overhyped on the travel forums back then, I thought it was a fucking dump. Santa Marta was so-so but there was a part called El Rodadero that was actually quite nice.

Overnight buses are awesome, good selection of acommodation especially shared accommodation, plenty of stuff to do, people are generally friendly to foreigners, food is great, it's got it all with little downsides. Favourite city was Hue, least favourite city was da nang.

    >Worst: Santorini
Yes it's picturesque, but there's nothing to do after you take that photo at least for a guy like me who doesn't spend much money when on holiday. >Chhattisgarh, India: rural and predominately tribal state in east-central India. The whole area has a bad reputation for insurgency and violence, which keeps most visitors away. However, the entire region is incredibly beautiful, insofar it's heavily forested, mountainous, and incredibly biodiverse. It also has some of the most unique and isolated cultures in the entirety of "mainland" India. People are very, very friendly, but not in the obnoxious, quasi-autistic way that North Indians can be friendly. Locals can be a little suHispanicious of outsiders, but there's zero hassle or harassment. The tribals also make really good alcohol, kek
    >Turkey: First country I ever visited outside of the United States. I went for the first time in 2013 and stayed in Istanbul for about a year in 2020-2021. IMO, it's one of the most-visited countries in the world for a reason: the people are extraordinarily hospitable, especially outside of big cities, and the entire country is drop-dead gorgeous. Istanbul is probably--and unironically--one of the most naturally beautiful urban areas in the world. Great views everywhere, reasonably safe, and cheap AF due to the ongoing lira crisis
    >Colombia + Mexico: hard tie, can't really pick which I prefer. I'm not a coomer, I just really liked the sort of energy and vibrancy in most big, Latin American cities. If I had to choose one of the two, I'd probably go with Mexico, just because the food is so much better

I guess I should have done my research beforehand, but I'd expected that Athens would be this beautiful, historic place where you could easily observe the remnants of its ancient civilization. I was fully expecting that I'd find Istanbul boring and be overwhelmed by Athens. Instead, I found an extremely hot, dirty, and polluted concrete jungle that was more or less completely covered in graffiti
      >San Pedro Sula: I actually had a really good time visiting SPS, but it was very, very obvious that the locals lived in a constant state of near-crippling fear

can't really think of anywhere else, I've been to about ~70 countries and unironically had a good time just about everywhere. there are certain cities and countries I wouldn't go out of my way to revisit, but I'd nowhere I'd reject outright

        >Athens

The center of Athens has been taken over by immigrants, mostly shitty Pakistanis and Bangladeshis. Greeks have fled the center of Athens to further away exurbs like Korydallos, Marousi, Kifissia, Lagonisi, Gylfada, etc.

In Athens the opposite of what is happening in most of the world is happening. Most the world has seen the city center being reclaimed by the rich and the professional yuppie class and their gentrifying, but in Athens the property market is the reverse, the city center is now a dump that is like an Islamic shitstain country and the outer areas of Athens are more expensive and sought after.

Finally this trip I spent much more time in the wealthier sections on the outer perimeter of Athens and the infrastructure still sucks, but it is nothing like the dystopia that is the Athens city center which is a mini Karachi or Dhaka at this point.

Btw, I don't want to screw anyone over with this post:

I am not saying or recommending to stay at those exburbs which are further away from almost all the tourist destinations you will want to visit. They are also further from the cultural events if you know Greek.

If you have more money it is probably better to stay in Monastiraki or Plaka that are in the city center but still too expensive for the Islamic riff raff to swarm on the property market. If you have less money it is probably better to stay in Exarcheia which is much cheaper, but poor Greek hippies, arthouse types, anarchists and communists still live there which limits the Islamic floodgate.

I personally have chosen a hotel in the center of Pakistan in Greece, Metaxourgeio. But I know Greek and much more interested in participating in Greek language nightlife(theater, concerts, etc.) and the city center is still closer where most of those venues are located. The nearby subway also has just a few stops till it connects to Trainose(suburban rail line), Omonia, Syntagma, etc.

    Favs:

    Hong Kong:

Skyscrapers, hiking trails, hill views, easy coom, the food was amazing and cheap in the local places, interesting history and culture, every neighborhood has it's own vibe and story. crazy public transportation, rice fields, anything for everyone really whether you're an anxious pussy who wants a safe trip or someone who wants to try the local life

    Berlin:

History, poverty / gang tourism (I like to see uglier parts of a city), international food, lots of asian sluts throwing themselves at you, crazy nightlife, easy drug scoring, interesting people

    Manila:
insane coom (woke up to 300+ notifications), poverty tourism, great nightlife, manila bay is gorgeous, very cheap luxury hotels with bay views

    Worst:

    Amsterdam:

I am sure this is going to be a shock to all the virtual travellers in here but it's a seriously boring city. I can have plenty of coom and drugs where I am. Annoying loud tourists, cold as shit, typical western goyslop food (they think french fries are a cultural staple LMFAO), bikers think they are entitled to pavements (not the bike paths), it's just really sterile and boring

    Warsaw:

Depressing place with depressed cold people. Only decent landmarks were 2 castles, the rest of the city is a commie block dark shithole. The only time the food was good was when I ate at a lebanese restaurant. People look like their kids just died, never smile. Would not return

    Istanbul, Turkey:

It was great 10 years ago but now it's a restricted Islamist shithole with arabs and moroccan refugees swarming the streets. The food has gotten worse and it's now catered to Arab and British tourists who don't know what good food tastes like anyway. The historical landmarks were decent though.

That being said ill take anyone on a trip around the city and we will have an awesome time. LA is my home and ill never leave it. Its a great place to live. So relaxed, great weather, tons of industry and money flowing through it, great food etc.

Vegas is like that. If you show up in Vegas, most people are going to walk the strip aimlessly. It's too overwhelming to find the gems around town. I jump in the vegas threads here and try to get people off the strip. Ive had friends visit with an itinerary and demand to do stupid shit. "We want to eat at Gordon Ramsey, We want to do 7 magic mountains, we want to do the neon sign museum" That stuff sucks and there's no talking people out of it. You have to get the info from the locals.

The Gordon Ramsey steakhouse is insanely overpriced and mediocre. Two scallops as an app for $55? A 6 once chicken breast entree for $50 with no side? I'll fucking pass bro. That's tourist nonsense. You only tell people that it was good because you overpaid and it's a coping mechanism. That's what chicks do.

The Ramsey Pub is one of the worst restaurants on the strip Ive never had a worse meal anywhere in the city.

    >Taipei - Simple as fuck to get around. Good hikes right outside the city. Easy enough to get to a beach. Food is awesome. Bubble tea is cheap and awesome. Women are easy. Nightlife is fun. LBH's fucking suck though.
    >Tbilisi - Cheap, safe, people are bros (so long as you aren't Russian). Women aren't easy but will lose their virginity to you if you're 6'4" and sighsee. Food is good, but did get bad food poisoning my last day there last time I was there.
    >The Tatras - Seem to come out of fucking nowhere. Look like the Grand Tetons of Europe. Easy to get around without a car. Hikes are great, lots of chatas to stop at and get food and even draft beer at really reasonable prices considering all of it had to be hiked in on the backs of some Slovak chad.

    Worst:
    >Bogota - dirty, huge, and dangerous, Colombian food is fucking terrible, practically nothing of note to see.
    >Seattle - Immense amounts of homeless, expensive, everywhere is on islands so getting around it is a fucking nightmare of traffic, people tend to be total autistic gays which I blame on the shit weather nearly 24/7
    >Athens - Anywhere outside of 2km of the Parthenon is a graffiti covered dystopian hellscape. So much human shit in the street it gives India a run for it's money.

Honorable mention for shittiest is Fes. It's a city full of con artists and has nothing to see. Better medinas nearly anywhere else in the country. Biggest tourist attraction being leather tanneries which are depressing as is because the people who work in them look like literal slaves. Fuck Fes, and fuck all the instagram thots and gay travel bloggers who list it as a 'magical place to get lost in the winding alleys of the medina.'

South Lake Tahoe. It's the most gorgeous place Ive ever seen. The lake is insane. Awesome outdoor bars. Amazing bike trails and hikes. But it still has a downtown area with a lot of good food and bars. Sitting around at the Hangar bar drinking beer by the fire at night under the stars is a vibe that's hard to match.

Jackson Hole Wyoming. The food is shockingly good. Every place in town is like a gourmet cowboy bar. You can do pretty much any outdoor outdoor activity. Whitewater rafting the snake river was one of the best experiences of my life. 3 days in Jackson Hole was not enough.

Maui. The best beaches Ive ever seen were in Makena on Maui. We found a condo for $300/night and that was a really good deal. I bought fresh fish a couple times and just grilled out to cut down on the outrageous restaurant bills we racked up. It's insanely expensive and we probably spent 4 grand on a 6 day trip for the 2 of us, but I felt like it was money well spent.

    Worst
Portland Oregon. The memes are true. Portland is a homeless cesspool. There were homeless people camped out front of our Airbnb on a normal suburban street. It was one of the least charming cities Ive ever visited.

Atlantic City New Jersey. We parked the car and someone tried to sell us crack within 30 seconds. It's like vegas with none of the attractions but in the worst neighborhood you've ever seen.

Fresno California. You'll probably never go there, because why would you? I had to stay there for a conference. Your nightly choice of dining options are Dominoes Pizza, and a 24 hour McDonalds. It actually has worse crime than LA.There is literally NOTHING to do.

I’ve been to about 80 countries and I don’t think I genuinely hated any. Yeah there are up and downs but I have always found pleasant surprises. Some countries are better than others, for sure. Then there are countries I won’t really come back because I think I did most of it (tiny little ones).

    Countries I liked the most:
    - Paraguay: the memories of camping and herding cows with Paraguayan equivalent of gauchos in Chaco when I was kid still haunt me to this day.

    - Iceland: did a multi-days trek in the middle of nowhere, in snowy volcanic landscape. Nothing is remotely similar.

    - Extremadura in Spain, Yunnan in China in the early 00s, Chile, Lake Tahoe in Burgerland, some swampy place in Skåne Sweden (pic rel) etc. Too many things to list.

My latest trip was a road-trip in Netherlands. I liked it, I learned and saw a lot.
I love traveling so much bros.

    Best:
Rome - So much history and ancient ruins to see there. The city feels like a time capsule and some random back alley pizza shop gave us the best wine I've ever tasted for like 5 euros in a plastic water bottle.

Galway, Ireland - An absolutely gorgeous little town with a lot of culture.

Toronto - Compared to most cities in the US, it's super clean, quiet and feels safe (at least it did 15 years ago when I visited).

    Worst:

Asbury Park, NJ - I got into a fender bender there and had to stay the night. Was told by the cops to stay away from the motels because there was a good chance I'd find a drug needle in the bed, and then some creepy middle aged dude aggressively hit on me at the hotel they dropped me off at (I was an 18 year old dude). There were absolutely no redeeming qualities about that place for me.

Paris - kind of a shithole with pickpockets everywhere who target tourists. The base of the Eiffel Tower is covered in Middle Eastern scammers and people aggressively trying to sell you junk. The architecture in the old city is really nice though.

Leeds, UK - was stuck there for six months on study abroad. One of the most boring places I've ever been.

do you think HK is still worth visiting now? i was thinking about going this year. what has changed since 2019? i understand HK is dropping much of their covid rules for travelers

Idk, I haven’t been since the 2019 protests/law changes and covid.

I still talk to one girl who lives there and she says it’s basically just another Chinese city now. Even if that’s the case, the urban design and landscapes are cool enough to warrant a visit imo.

        >what has changed since 2019?
Forgot to answer this part. First in 2012, then far more substantially in 2019, the Chinese Communist Party forced the Hong Kong government to rewrite large parts of its legal framework (which was supposed to remain untouched until 2047) to align with Chinese law instead of the old British common law. Among other things, HK defendants can now be tried in Mainland China if the CCP demands it. It also purged the HK legislature of anyone who wasn’t fully sympathetic to the CCP.
        >I thought they were dropping most of the covid regulations
Nope, just the mandatory quarantine period. Masks are still mandatory, even outside, and they still have a digital vaccine passport system in place with no end date in sight.

ive pretty much always liked the places ive visited so ill just say the worst
    >brussels
city centre mostly destroyed for capital and eu buildings
main square and attraction are extrmely tiny and unnoteworthy
belgians are in general very rude and very dumb and overcharged for everything
also plenty of nog and arab areas just by the city centre
    did like the atom though
    >lisbon
people are the rudest and most self important on earth
they never work permanently on strike, so often you cant get anywhere or things are closed
everything is filthy and grafitti filled, streets mostly smell of piss, some of vomit too
    >algarve
hate this sort of tourist destinations, everything is made for bongs and the lot and so everything is classless and dirty
just to add something good, my most recent trips where to São Miguel island at Açores, Crete, and a few extended weekends into spain mostly Castille region and absolutely loved all these

My travel habits are niche and i've never been outside the US but I'm planning a trip to France, Holland and Germany this year. Which places in Europe are best for me relative to my best/worst places in the US?

    favorite
    >St. Augustine, FL
feels like the closest thing to a European city in the US that i've been to. perfect blend of touristy and authentic, which is what i like because my hobby is visiting roadside attractions but i also appreciate nice places.
    >Gatlinburg, TN
The roadside mecca and also a great vacation spot with decently priced cabin rentals in some of the most beautiful mountain settings ive ever seen. Again, perfect combo of tourism and atmosphere.
    >Savannah, GA
best waterfront dining and shopping strip ive ever seen. am i wrong that dusseldorf has something similar but better? because i'm planning on going there on my trip.

    worst
    >Lake George, NY / Adirondacks
It's not that bad of a place really, but its the most once-alive but now its dead places ever but you wouldnt know that unless youre me and know about all the awesome roadside attractions and kitsch americana that has one by one disappeared over the years. Like it just feels soulless going there remembering what it once was.
    >Coney Island, NY
same as above but even worse of an example. look at how amazing it used to be and look at it now. the contrast makes it feel shittier than it really is. and i dont think coney island is as bad as some people say, but at one time it would have been like heaven to me, and now its just an okay tourist beach similar to Wildwood or Ocean City but still way better than Atlantic City
    >Atlantic City, NJ
worst place i've ever been to. not just because theres surprisingly little to do, but because its dirty and trashy and full of junkies literally laying on the beach unconscious looking like they died from a heroin od. urban decay, ugly shuttered casino dystopia, feels like an entire abandoned city

      >Lake George, NY / Adirondacks
I can't speak to Lake George, but I did a weekend backpacking trip out of Lake Placid and it gave me a good impression. I didn't spend much time in the town proper, but there are still some of the old Olympic buildings which would've been neat to check out. The High Peaks area is quite nice, if a bit crowded

As someone that's spent the past five summers in Lake George, you're really not missing out on much. The actual town is just filled with hotels, subpar restaurants, and novelty shops created to exploit middle-class families from downstate or French Canada. About it. It's the definition of a tourist town, honestly. The surrounding towns are idyllic suburbs with not much to do, but the influx of tourists/travelers during the summer can make traffic hectic. Not too great.

    >Manchester
Depressing place where the only worthwhile attractions are the Christmas Market and the Football Museum. Maybe the war museum but London's one is better. Women are ugly, no wonder it's a gay capital.
    >Belfast
Virtually fuck all to do apart from the Titanic Museum. Troglodytic people and no charm. If you want historical tourism (on the Troubles) Derry is better.

That's not specific to London, the entire UK has visibly been death spiraling for the past 12 years if not longer. There is absolutely no optimism left anywhere in this country, that's why Brexit was such a big deal, for many it was their best chance at a future to look forward to with all the promises being made about it. London in particular is largely filled up with people who are honestly just struggling to survive on hopelessly stagnant wages in an extremely expensive city with massive inflation, so you're not the only one wanting to kill themselves for being their, there's just fuck all for work outside of London so it's still one's best chance sadly.

2008 bust rekt the UK and it's never recovered from it. To make matters worse, this coincided with extraordinary levels of societal changes leaving a very divided people. The Labour Govt fucked things up systemically, then the Tories did nothing but continued the rot. The whole economy is built on the Ponzi property market and muh financial services.

2 decades since the crash, the loss of wealth and earning power is only just becoming apparent.

Its grim in the UK atm unfortunately.

    >Lucerne, Switzerland.
Fucking awesome place, and a great middle ground between alpine city and country. Everything is gorgeous and the kapellbrucke is stellar, but the biggest problem is that everything is fucking expensive as shit, making you feel like a pauper next to all the wealth. My favorite place in the whole world.

    >Bend, Oregon.
It's in a very tenuous place as people are beginning to discover it en-masse, but it's a pleasure to visit. Lots of places to go outdoors, lively town, and a young populace. Again, the problem is that granolas and remote techfags are flocking to it, so the future doesn't look so good. Also has the last Blockbuster in the world, which is neat.

    >Molde, Norway.
I'm a bit biased because I have family here, but it's a cute town on the waterfront with lots of verticality. Easy to get to the countryside, and the atlantic road isn't far. Just a very pleasant place that follows the beat of its own drum. I'd visit another larger town as a tourist, however.

Turns out my favorite places are all mountainous and expensive. Go figure.

    Worst

    >San Francisco, California
The biggest tumor of a city I can think of. This is what happens when you have an idyllic region grow for too long, it begins to rot from the inside out. Worse yet, the tumor has metastasized and is starting to infect surrounding regions as well. Fuck this place.

    >Milan, Italy
Dirty, expensive, and a worse italian version of Paris. Hosts a bunch of lazy migrants and faux posh italians who think they're above everyone else. The only nice parts are the duomo and last supper mural, and you can see those within a day. Go to Como or Lugano instead, those are FAR superior to this shithole.

    >Aberdeen, Washington
No wonder Kurt sang into his shotgun, I would want to die if I had to live in this depressing hellhole too. So desolate and dreary on this part of the coast, and there's plenty of other A-tier places you can go instead if you want to see PNW nature.

San Francisco gets a lot of hate because of the homeless shit. but there are some really awesome and unique things to see in san fran. Biking around angel island, alcatraz, Muir Woods, Fort Funsten, The Golden Gate Bridge, The Presidio Park, Fisherman's Wharf, Golden Gate Park, Muir Beach, Sausalito, Tenesee Valley, Mount Tam, etc. There is an awesome brewery scene, a bunch of good live music venues, great asian food, crazy festivals. I dont know how people have a bad time in SF. Just don't leave anything in your car and stay away from the mission district where the homeless people congregate and you'll enjoy it a lot more.

You have to go to SF in the off-season. Muir Woods is never crowded because they implemented a reservation system. It's one of the most beautiful parks in the US. If you're bored in Muir Woods, that's on you. We hiked up the mountain along a creek under giant redwood trees and saw like 4 waterfalls along the way. We never passed another person on the Bootjack trail in October.

I thought Palermo was one of the bottom tier places I went in Italy. Still better than Naples and Trapani though. Ended up liking Palermo because met some tight Sicilian bros at a punk bar there who took me to a street party with 1euro beers in an alley where everyone was partying on like a Thursday night. One of my best evenings.

Oh yeah I feel like Palermo's objectively a dump and there are easily far better places in Italy, but it's still one of my favourite cities. I went to a bar and met some locals, and Palermo lose in the Serie B playoff final due to very obvious cheating on the part of the other team. The pure, unbridled and utterly infectious southern Italian anger on display (mixed with my own English "wah th'fuck are these cunts dooin?!") was something to behold, it was fucking great.

I had the same thing happen in Palermo and it was it's saving grace. Met some cool mother fuckers at a punk bar and they took me to an illegal street party with 1euro beers. Fun fucking night.

Genuine hellhole. Nothing going on, extensive urban decay, the most obvious gangsterism I have ever seen. The majority of the younger men were clearly wearing colors.

Southern California in general is a really nice place to live (except LA proper obviously) but it's not great for tourists, unless you're there for outdoors stuff like surfing or mountain biking.

You really need a local to show you the good shit in socal. The tourists all end up doing the wrong shit. Hollywood is a dump. Venice beach is a shithole. The tour busses all go to the La Brea Tar Pits. Why the fuck would you go to a tar pit? Disneyland is ok, but it gets too fucking crowded and if you don't get a fast pass, you end up riding 4 rides in 12 hours. Then you end up on a tour bus driving around Beverly Hills looking at "celebrity houses". It's a lame vacation that costs way too much.

The best California trip you can do is to go stay in Yosemite National Park in June when the waterfalls are going off. All the good beaches are between Huntington Beach in Orange County and La Jolla in San Diego. The best month for the beaches is September after the Mexicans are back in Riverside and LA.

    Best
Lisbon- Lots to see and do, great food and drink with lots of live music bars and restaurants, near to some great side trips like Sintra and the best sunset at Cabo da Roca

Rome- Big fan of history and churches so this is a no brainer

Phuket- Whilst alot of it is a tourist trap it does have nice beaches, islands, and very fun nightlife

    Worst
Bratislava- Very boring and the 'old' architecture is poorly done post WW2 reconstruction

Uman- Went as a stop in-between Kiev and Odessa. Nice park but mostly a gnomish shanty town (centre of hassidic garden gnomes in Europe, Israeli and US currency accepted alongside Hyrvnia lol)

Exeter- Ended up on a roadtrip round the west of England in summer 2021, represents the worst part of travelling in UK as it's boring and expensive.

It has a serious problem with petty crime and if you don’t keep your wits about you or don’t take sensible precautions you’re very likely to have your pockets picked or be mugged. If this doesn’t happen to you you’ll love Barca; if it happens to you you’ll hate it. If you are from a fancy place with no real street crime you might find having to think about muggers at all upsetting.

My bro loved out there for a while under Erasmus. Everyone eventually got crimed. He ended up having a neck pouch thing he kept actual valuables in, and carried around a sacrificial wallet with only €20 in it which was no great loss when it inevitably was taken from him. You can buy boxer shorts with concealed pockets which were also popular.

I’m from the UK but Barcelona has become a home away from home, my girlfriend lives there and I’m planning on moving there soon.

I’ve spent a generous amount of time there, clubbing, out drinking late on my own etc and I’ve never been a victim of crime. That being said, I’m ACUTELY aware of where this crime occurs, who and what to look out for and directly how to avoid it.

The problem is as follows. Moroccans and Africans flood the city illegally. Thousands of unsuspecting tourists on a daily basis. Very old winding streets that are endlessly confusing, dark and unmonitored by CCTV etc. Super left wing local government and a jaded police force who have stopped caring about it.

The dead centre of Barcelona, La Rambla and adjacent areas like El Born and El Raval are most dangerous. I fucking love El Born, but it’s somewhere I always make sure I have my wits about me at night. A few weeks ago I was stumbling back from a bar when the World Cup was on. Must have been 1am. Clearly Moroccan looking young guy, fake Gucci bag and all the works, is scoping me out from his electric scooter, going slowly staring at me and looking around. I stop right in front of him, light a cigarette and show zero intimidation. I see a big group of Uber eats cyclists around the corner so I shift over to them quickly and continue to smoke. I saw him circling the area maybe 5 times after that, to which he then zipped off 5 minutes or so later.

    >Best

    >1. The French countryside
I've never felt more European than I did driving around all the small towns and through the incredibly scenery all over the country. I did a whole circle and the northern and eastern part are probably my favorites. The second you get to a big city it's like waking up from a dream, unfortunately.

    >2. Seoul, SK
Great city with tons of history. Interesting contrast between old and new.

    >3. Coast of California
Again if you discount the cities, which are both awful (LA and SF), it's almost unbelievably beautiful. Yosemite is probably the highlight but the whole place is just great.

    >Worst

    >1. Madrid, Spain
Awful city. Never felt more unsafe anywhere in Europe. Literally caught a guy trying to steal from my backpack. Not much to see or do, annoying people trying to get you into their restaurants and the food was surprisingly bad. The whole siesta thing is strange to put it mildly, makes for an awkward traveling experience.

    >2. Miami, Florida
Rundown shithole that looks like it hasn't been touched since 1996. No glamour about anything there. Dirty streets, annoying people. It's completely soulless.

I'd also add Milan as my favourite. Great city to live in, especially if you got the cash. So many hot girls, great museums and food. Alps are so close with Lago Maggiore and the rest. Also easy to grab a train to Bergamo et al. Only part I really hate is how they let all sorts of scum shit up the beautiful entrance of Milano Centrale, probably the most beautiful train station I've ever been to. I used to be in Milan often and I always hated how much rubbish was there. But trains stations in Italy are pretty much always shitholes in major cities.

    Best
Hanoi - great city and a great base for smaller trips to other great places in north Vietnam
Kyoto - if it weren't for all the tourists I'd be making strong plans to move here. Very pleasant small city.
Seoul - really fun place to visit, wish I had have studied there for a semester when I was young, great scene for uni aged people.

Worst - can't say I've hated anywhere I've been but in terms of least likely to recommend or give a big conditional comment on
Hue - Make it a day trip, don't book three nights like I did
Saigon - filthy degenerate city with little going for it compared to other destinations in Vietnam

My experience is not so wide as some anonii here , but here's mine:

    Best:
    >Budapest
due to shitty government and inflation, really cheap local restaurants and hotels for other europeans. Nice club scene. Clean enough. Nice views, places to see.

    >Berlin
Outstanding nightclubs, some say best in Europe, art, (Turkish kebabs...), culture, liked the overall feel.

    > Rome
Walking on history. Been there few times, still lots to see. Cheap af quality red wine. Art, culture etc.

    Favourable Mentions:
    >Heidelberg, germany
what a nice town between mountains, university town, not too big, nightlife and things to do for a couple days
    >Turku, Finland
The town is not big or extremely special, university town and pretty ok nightlife, very safe (as is all Finland). However, you can enter the archipelago from there and it's unique in all of europe or even the world. Some love it to bits, some are not that particular. There are cabins for rent and probably saunas in nearly all habitable islands.

Least recommended - tier (don't actually hate these but wouldnt go again unless necessary):

    >Tunis
Well, went there before the Arab Spring and I'm fairly certain it's even shittier now.

    >Essen, Germany
You can go there and see a mine. Concrete, not much to do. It's surrounded by nicer places to live probably, but its not for just visiting as a tourist.

    >Oulu, Finland
Not much to see, despite being so far upnorth. It's a staging area for trips further north or the islands, but never clicked with the place.

    >Reykjavik
The town itself is pretty small and not much to do unless you love whale watching, bathing and seeing the penis museum (OP?). However, Iceland itself is cool in many of the word's meanings.

    >San Diego, california
Didn't love the place ,spent a few days, the city itself needs someone to guide you if you want to find anything worthy of seeing.
Still, liked the aircraft carrier - much freedoms for a small fee. Perhaps a nice place to live, however.

    >Favorites
Geneva, Switzerland. Gorgeous city, prestine nature surrounding and even in the suburbs there are really cool ravines and nature spots. Terrible bang for buck though. Even a basic lunch 10 years ago cost as much as a combo meal today.

Edinburgh, Scotland. Even when the weather sucks its just a very uniquely fun city. Really well planned out for active types and great mix of restaurants and architecture.

    >Worst
Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Speaking of terrible bang for buck, Vegas is almost as bad as Switzerland. Except here you are constantly harassed by lepers, scamming broads and nogs who come from L.A. for a weekend to be complete fucking mongs at the casino. That also doesn't include the scamming hotel staff and the annoying loud families that plague every part of the city. Fuck that entire shithole.

New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Possibly the most unsafe city in America. Even Chicago felt like Tokyo levels of safe compared to the nightmare of New Orleans. However outside of being followed by a pickpocket/mugger I still didn't have as many problems here as I did in Vegas. The food is also far superior as is the local music scene.

Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Cold boring shithole who's only benefit is being within 2 hours of prestine nature as long as you're there in off season before the Chinese tourists plague the area. The city itself is either a soulless husk akin to Buffalo, NY or a long strip of woke socjus businesses with terrible food and service. I hear Edmonton is leagues worse so thankfully I've never been yet and hopefully will never end up there.

    >Hong Kong:
Did my first solo trip here, was totally lost and confused the first day, but after that enjoyed it. Loved the views, amazing hikes, beaches, islands, hills, culture, shopping, amazing food, party scene, booming craft beer scene, chill atmospheres and all in such a close vicinity with amazing accessibility. The hike with the many waterfalls was a highlight, did it with just half a water bottle, a huge hangover and 3 hours of sleep, but loved it so much.

    >Istanbul:
Huge city, so much variety in things to see and do. Cultural variety as well. Mosques just a few blocks away from the best Electronic music clubs you can imagine. One of my fav clubs worldwide was very close to Taksim. Turkish food is absolutely top tier, lots of culture and the friendliest people you can imagine. Extremely hectic traffic though, but I didnt mind it that much.

    >Rome:
Really hard to choose between Rome and other Italian cities, but how can I choose against a full on open air museum? Great food, friendly people, so much to do and see. Only downside is vendors and a few homeless people, but they are really easy to avoid.

It's amazingly bad. Made all the worse for its modern miracles of engineering being wasted on a sweltering shithole full of literal slavekeepers and their hordes of third world and African vermin.

It's so hot in Dubai that you will die of heatstroke if you stand outside for 30 minutes, some times of the year. The metal and concrete and asphalt retain the heat and blast it out all night long also, so it barely cools down at all. Imagine walking outside at 2am and feeling heat radiating at you from below and all sides since everything was baking all day.

There is no escape except in massive air conditioned areas which are plentiful, but also completely fake and also packed with confused looking displaced brownoids trying to spend their meager paycheck.

    >NYC: Loud, crowded, filthy and populated with absolute scum. A shrine to tacky consumerism. I visited like 15 years ago though and people say it's even worse now.
    >Marrakech: The postcards make it look like this beautiful exotic place but aside from a couple of spots it was a dirty shithole, with rubbish littered everywhere and scammers trying to get you constantly. The food was also shit and the locals were incredibly rude.
    >Geneva and Switzerland in general: The best skiing spots I've ever been to, but a lot of the smaller towns I got to visit were boring and grey. Swiss people are generally autistic and would throw a fit if you even dared flush your toilet after 10 pm. Geneva is apparently a very wealthy place but it's very underwhelming and ugly. Everything is expensive and food is meh tier.

Favourite: Vancouver, friendly people, beautiful nature on your doorstep
Malta, friendly people, cheap, tons of history
    Budapest, cheap, old and beautiful.

Honorable mention, Sri Lanka. Like india, but less hectic.
Lviv; cheap and beautiful (pre war anyway)

    Worst: Morocco, Morocco, Morocco.
Beautiful country, shame about the people. They're thieves, scammers and just general bastards. I would never recommend coming here without having that in mind. The only country I've been to where i had to save a dog from being stoned to death.

When people say Vancouver is friendly I want to know what alternate reality they live in. Been here since high school, and the people are just lizards. I remember a student had a stroke in class, no one even reacted a fly could land on their eyes, and even the teacher that helped no emotion. Robot city.

I think you underestimate just how shit most places are, in london the schoolkids enjoy stabbing eachother for instance. I live in the Midlands in the UK, come to Birmingham for a weekend and tell me Vancouver isn't a fucking paradise in comparison.

Granted i was only there for a week, but it just seemed like a lovely place. Much nicer than the souless grey mass that is Toronto.

Oh, you just visited for a week. Thing is about Canadians is that they are superficial, how they act does not reflect how they think at all. Too many times I have gotten people that are all smiles to my face, and then try to fuck you over for any reason they can. It makes it very difficult to trust anyone here.
Also just going to class last year I saw shit like homeless scraping off all their leg tissue to the bone, dead bodies from drug overdoses, saw one die of an overdose from outside my college while I was studying. Third world slum in a nice geographical location.

The most beautiful place that I have visited.
Very clean with nice weather. I like the stores and local markets, beaches, promenades and marina. I have seen places with more impressive architecture, but the combination of Nica's specific vibe, location and beautiful weather just does it for me.
    >Metz
Once again, it's just about the feeling. For some reason I like the local cathedral very much. Parks are beautiful and the river that flows through the city makes great views combined with old bridges.
    >Dubrovnik
Pearl of the Adriatic, it is one of the most beautiful cities and it also functions as a whole perfectly.

    Worst
    >Serbia in general
Awful state of the streets, gas stations full of shady people and criminals. A place stuck in the late 80s.
    >Sofia
Gray, depressing, and full of scammers.

Shameful main bus station, in the city everything is closed past a certain hour.

    Favorites:
Firenze - visited in winter, outside main tourist season. The cathedral is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, and the Uffizi galleries were magnificent.

Raasay - small island just off the Isle of Skye in Scotland. Very nice if you didn't bring your own vehicle, as it is small enough that you can explore on foot - the backdrop, across a narrow sea, is the Isle of Skye. Breathtakingly beautiful, and extremely nice and hospitable people, being a tiny island of 40 permanent residents or so.

Bath in England. Magnificently beautiful, and I honestly had no idea the English could pull something like that off. Placed near the Cotswolds which is also a wonderful bit of nature for hiking and sightseeing.

    Worst:
Munich. combines everything that is bad about Germany. Overpriced, boring, ugly, and the people are all autists who think they are better than you because they used their autism to work in a bank and make a lot of money.

Krakow: Absolutely insane seeing street vendors in clown outfits do a little hop and dance to advertise tours to FUCKING AUSCHWITZ. Absolutely insane that lads on tour go there to get pissed, see Auschwitz, and then get pissed again. Least favorite part of Poland. I much prefer their smaller cities, which are wonderful.

London. It just fucking sucks. Most of it is ugly by now, most of it is expensive because it has become a favorite of the most gaudy and tasteless rich internationals, and all the pretty little places, like parks in the center of housing blocks are locked up to prevent them from being spoiled by filthy non-residents. There is not a single bench in Belgravia because they hate you loitering without spending money in a cafe. Inhospitable town unless you have oil and oligarch levels of wealth.

The bath was built by the Romans. And the church was built by the French.

Bath is not just the Roman baths. The entire city is covered in Georgian architecture and elaborate parks. There's a very specific stone they only quarry there and it's probably one of the best stones for buildings in terms of aesthetics. It's a very, very rich town and it shows the very best of Britain. You can forget you live in England when you are in Bath. Just a stunning place. I worked there for a hostel for a year, the place is pure soul, also I met so many cool people there. BTW - you can get a resident card and enter the bath's for free. They're not too picky about proof of residence, you could literally book a hostel weeks before, have a letter mailed there and use that as a reference. It also works for other attractions and lasts 3 years. If you can be bothered with getting a bicycle, go down the canals to Dundas Aqueduct or cycle thru the mountain in what used to be the railway cutting thru Bath Hills - in fact I recommend hiking around the town on the same hills as you get great views. I detest most things about Britain, the weather, most of the people, ugly architecture, but Bath is an absolute pearl, it's undeniably one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.Somerset is the best place in England. Compared to other big cities Bristol isn't half bad, although I could never live there.

You have some immigration, but it's mostly Eastern Europeans and well educated people. So not really. It's mostly white British who live there. It's not far off from what people idealize as rural Britain. If the English weather wasn't so bad and they had good cuisine, like French or Italians, I'd probably move there when I get older. Really love the rolling hills, meadows, all the pubs, local cider and canals and the river Avon near and round Bath. If you ever go, go during May - August. When I lived there I got the best amount of sunlight mid May till late June. Summer is pretty good for UK, but still not as great as anything on the continent.

Bath bun is also worth trying out, my favourite dessert from UK, even better than crumpets imho. Tea, clotted cream and jam is GOAT tier with it.

Unless you're hanging around Twerton you won't even see anything like that.

Agreed Bath is by a stretch the best city to visit in England. Unless you're just interested in the vibe in summer I wouldn't spent more than a couple of days there though.

I would also recommend going through the Gloucestershire Cotswolds than Somerset though.

Shit post. Brussels is great, especially the suburbs.m – St Giles, Uccle etc

Oh wow there's .... some tiny statue at the end of a street. And wow look theres a historic town square ... that literally every city on the continent has.

There's a regional ticket that covers a huge area. When I still used to use it, I always brought the one with the student discount - driver's never check anything if you're using the app. I made trips to Wells, Weston-Super-Mare, Cheddar, etc. with it. Bath alone can be done in probably a day or two, but I recommend a few days to explore the country side and smaller towns, also Bristol. It's probably one of the nicest corners of England.

                Here's a trip I recommend.

Take a bike (or walk, but it will take longer).

Go to Come Down Tunnel, the northern end. Basically it's an old railway tunnel that is now a walking/cycling path. It quite long and it's always pretty cold inside, even during the summer. I've gone through it several times and I always get a slightly eerie feeling.

When you emerge, follow the green road towards Monkton Combe. It's a very, very classical English village. There's a pretty church and a cemetery. Then continue along towards Dundas Aqueduct. There the Bath canal crossed river Avon. There's also a railroad underneath and it's a good spot if you're into trainspotting. You can't miss it, it looks bigger than any of the photos in person. There you have the option to go to either Bradford on Avon as signed off with teal for a daytrip. There's another aqueduct on the way there, albeit it is less impressive. It gets more wooded after Dundas going towards Bradford, so if that is your jam you'll like it. Otherwise follow the blue line, along the canal, to go back to Bath. It's a very, very nice cycling trip all around. You're mostly following level ground too as you go directly under the hills in the first stage and then circumvent them going back.

Best done on a sunny day for full kino. May/June is probably the best time, everything is green, days are sunny and it doesn't rain that much.

Also the first part of the trip, getting to the Northern Tunnel, is not particularly impressive as you'll be mostly going through ugly suburbs, but once you hit the tunnel and get to the other side, it's pure kino thereon.

Most of Europe went from high-trust very low crime societies to a multicultural more USA-like society in a short time so there is a lot of exaggeration, but take precautions, watch yourself don't walk about aimlessly at 4AM. London still has a lower crime rate than most US cities despite being muzzied.

Tangier, absolutely magnificient beach side, food is incredibly good and cheap (if you don't go around the tourist spots but even then), the girls are cute, and you basically have the best beaches around town, and a taxi can get you there for around 5USD. You can also use taxis to go wherever you want, inside the city, for a dollar at most. it's fucking ridiculous.
Taipei, beautiful, modern, clean and calm, with a rural touch to it with lots of hiking trails around town
New York City, great food and lots of stuff to do
    >worst
Fuck Cairo, fuck egypt and fuck the egyptians, there is a reason why gypsies get their name from them
Paris has all the downsides of New York City and only a few of its upsides, it's basically a shitty subset of world class cities. People are rude, and extremely insecure, trying to shit on you at every turn, even the ones that pretend to be your friends. I know you think you can apply all of this to NYC, but trust me, they're on another level.
Los Angeles is an urban nightmare, gigantic streets made for cars so you can't really go from one neighborhood to another without one (it would be unsafe anyway), and the only people that seem to actually have fun there probably earn around my early salary monthly. Whatever soul was depicted in movies like the Big Lebowski is completely gone. The poor people are just hustling fiends and the rich ones are going to their vegan restaurant so they can stuff their faces with kale and papaya chutney.

Mainland Mexico. Not too many tourists, friendly folk, excellent bus system. Good surf trip or highland cities. El Salvador honorable mention
Central California. SF is s real city, Monterey peninsula is primo, Tahoe and Big Sur and Yosemite. Expensive.
Montreal. Went here for a long weekend in high summer with perfect weather. Rafted on St. Lawrence, stroll to top of Mt. Real, drinks in city. Solid 7s everywhere.
Bonus: Teton Range. Jackson Hole has epic terrain, Targhee has epic snow. Expensive.

Barcelona. Loud and smelly. I don't care about culture.
Nicaragua. The surf is weak and the spots are too tide sensitive and therefore packed. Like 90 minute tide windows, incoming tide only. A swell thar will be well overhead in Mexico will be chest high. Too many Brazilians.

NTA, but Germans tend to be very stiff, unfun and generally passive aggressive. Also poor social skills in general. Germany itself is quite shit, most cities are quite ugly outside of the historical city center (most of which has been rebuilt anyways as they were bombed to stone age), people are boring, weather is quite shit too, the food isn't great as they hardly ever bother with traditional dishes and the variety is rather shallow.
