-Las Vegas. It is what it is, but it wasn't for me. Having to fight off a junkie when I took the wrong exit from a mall makes it the worst.
-Colchester, UK. Why the fuck did I go there? Not terrible, just boring, and bad weather.

There's not much to tell. Probably a meme story on /trv. I went through a long list of terrible life events, both by my own fault and out of my control. Hated my job and considered quitting but I was terminated before I had the chance. I had severance pay and nothing else going for me. My apartment lease was up and I moved my stuff to storage, decided to go to Japan for a few months and maybe end it afterwards or along the way. Once in Japan, I spent a week or two adjusting, and I realized that having daily challenges in life made existential problems go on the back burner.
Met a girl on Tinder while it still was a "friend finder" in Asia. Used her as a tour guide and went to a love hotel a few times. It was casual and I met another girl, who was clingy and (I soon discovered) crazy. Met another. Made friends with Japanese guys and girls (and some expats) and developed a social circle - which didn't last longer than my trip, but amazed me by how easy it was when I wasn't wrapped up in my own head.
Decided that life really wasn't so bad, at least as long as it stayed interesting. And decided not to kill myself and instead looked for ways to earn a living remotely. Applied for jobs until I got one.
In my opinion, the destination I chose was irrelevant. I'd often thought to myself "before I kill myself, I'll go to X country/location". They've varied over the years: California, Africa, India, Japan. When it was time, my destination was Japan. I guess I didn't really want to die because instead of taking the quick jump off an expressway bridge, I actually visited the destination I'd dreamed about. I'm glad I did, and now many years later, I've got kids and I'm happier than I've ever been before. Happier than many of my old friends back in my home country. I wouldn't change a thing.
Did you learn any Japanese when you were in Japan? I plan on going to Japan in the near future, not to get laid but for many, many reasons. The nature is amazingly beautiful, the people there are really reserved and modest, I feel like it's probably one of the best places to visit but i wouldn't know since I've never been there :p

This is exactly why I urge people to go backpacking. When you spend a couple weeks (or months, or years) doing the backpacking thing, every day offers something new and you get a new perspective on your problems. I can't explain why, maybe it's because when you're backpacking you tend to make last minute decisions ("Fuck it, I'll skip Nice and take the train to Marseille!") and that makes you realise that you can make decisions about the more important things in your life too.
There is a phenomenon that astronauts come back to Earth with a greater interest in environmental concerns, altruism etc. Because seeing the whole world as just a ball of blue and green has some crazy effects on their beliefs. I think backpacking is kind of similar.

In summer, Barcelona transforms into a sunny party city and attracts some of the most incredible women in the world and has one of the best party scenes in Europe.
One thing that I also like about Barcelona is the fact that it’s very much populated with normal, everyday Spanish people and families. Something that is pretty much lost on all of the other big international Western European cities.

1) Shanghai, China (pre-covid) - you could get everything from craft beer to local arcades to some authentic chinese shit. There were tons of interesting places from first ever vegan restaurant in the world to skybars serving Shaoxing rice wine (I developed taste of that stuff) to very modern and very impresive Bund - all in span of 5km and all different to western equivalents (or even to other Asian cities). Such a shame of what happens to China lately. I hope that CCP finally dies during my lifetime.
2) Taba, Egypt - new favorite vacation spot. Mountains of Sinai Peninsula look absolutely epic during sunrise. During sunset sunlight illuminates other side of gulf of Aqaba, resulting with that sight of wide, red, horizontal strip of light - I've never seen anything like it elsewhere. In between of sunrise and sunset it's usual, fun, sunbath > swim > drink routine.
3) Manhattan, New York - I was there in 1998 and 20 years later and for anyone who grew on popculture, this place is like Mecca for muslims. From Battery Park to Harlem, you literally can't substitute it with anything else.

1) Whatever capital of Bangladesh is - I won't even bother checking it's name right now. It's like if worst muslim shithole and worst indian shithole had a baby. Cockroaches were in size of mice. Mice were in size of rats and rats could eat human baby with one bite. I've spent there only few hours of my life sometime in 2000 and I will never forget it.
2) Łódź, Poland - most filthy and depressing city of Poland. Probably worst shithole of EU. It's like Polish Detroit, except that it was never great. Everytime I had to go there felt like an undeserved punishment.

Had many hours between flights, also I needed to make visa in advance to go outside. Airport was very representative for whole place: despite warm and wet climate everything (bathrooms included!) was covered with thick textile, that was rotting and smelled bad. Outside everything was rotting and stinked as well, so thematic integrity was kept.
I remember food in Bengal airlines was good though: more similar to traditional restaurant than bland airplane food (despite my worries, it went without diarrhea).
When I think about this, maybe I'll give Bangladesh another chance. In 22 years places and people do change.

Worst: Beijing - I basically responded to this thread because I wanted to shit on Beijing. It's such a soulless city and doesn't even have the interesting soviet decay that you get from eastern europe. The air pollution probably contributed heavily my experience because my memory of the city was just a depressing grey dystopian blur.
It's pretty amazing how two megacities differ between "communism" and democracy
Taipei is probably a better example. It also happens to be my #2 favorite destination after Japan. I don't know any mandarin though, so it lost points for that.

I would imagine one of the things to do in London is seeing some world class theater. But I would imagine that like in NYC it is crazy expensive. I saw Book of Mormom on Broadway and just one ticket cost me $199... But it was worth it, you it was like watching well trained racing horses, they were just so good at acting and signing, the set design was amazing, the script by Matt and Trey Parker was on point. I got the impression that if I wanted to see Hamilton the tickets would have been more expensive at like $300 at the time.
I'm not sure i've ever been to a theatre in London but i'll take your word for it. For me, it's finding all the old pubs in hidden twittens and stumbling upon random historic plaques and markers.
England produces such good actors that most Americans don't know or are slow to realize that their favorite "American/Hollywood" actors are British. As a Wire fan(HBO series) I was shocked to learn that Idris Elba was a British born black, he was and is that damn good of an actor and he has nailed American English in general and in the case of the Wire, the Baltimore accent. As I understand it a lot of these English actors start out in London theater(unlike many American Hollywood actors who eschew theater).
Personally I won't visit London(I live in the near suburbs of NYC so I see little reason from the theatrical angle), but I know many of their theaters have a strong global reputation. But you will like pay out of the nose for the experience since many of the rich globetrotters likely love it as well, driving up prices just like with top Broadway productions.
English actors act like it’s a job and they are damned good at it. They’ll do movies and TV, and then do live theater just for fun or to keep their skills up. American actors will do a movie per year and then shake their tits or dicks for TMZ.

How much fun you have in Vienna depends on how much dough you have to spend. The really good bars and restaurants are pricey. But the architecture and museums are world class for sure. And the university is really rad at night on the weekends. Everyone sits out and drinks beer in the parks. I think you'd be insane to skip Vienna if you were doing a Czech-Budapest train ride.
I think it's also a question of doing your research. i had a place by the nachtmarket, "lots of history" they said, and it turns out it's just some concrete shithole. I walk the wrong way for 5 minutes, and I'm in some dystopian commie-block dead neighbourhood where nothing moves.

Last time I was in Minca was a bit more than 10 years ago. The natural bay is beautiful, but the town itself was a fucking dive. The beach was filthy with garbage, the town was full of cheap, ramshackle hostels and there were skanky dreadlocked deadshit backpacker-fags everywhere. The roads were all broken and potholed, when it rained the streets filled with water and there were stray dogs roaming all over. I couldn't believe how this place was so overhyped on the travel forums back then, I thought it was a fucking dump. Santa Marta was so-so but there was a part called El Rodadero that was actually quite nice.

Edinburgh - had to go here for military training and thought it was great. Architecture, atmosphere, everything. Very pleasant city, a lot to see and friendly people to meet.
York - lived here for a few years, wonderful city. Ridiculously safe, I unfortunately fainted in the city center one night and instead of getting mugged some Spanish students woke me up, asked me if I was okay and gave me a cheeseburger. Never saw any crime.
Worst
London - first thing I saw after stepping out of the train station was a barefoot homeless person eating out of a bin. Entire city is full of boring, miserable people.

The center of Athens has been taken over by immigrants, mostly shitty Pakistanis and Bangladeshis. Greeks have fled the center of Athens to further away exurbs like Korydallos, Marousi, Kifissia, Lagonisi, Gylfada, etc.
In Athens the opposite of what is happening in most of the world is happening. Most the world has seen the city center being reclaimed by the rich and the professional yuppie class and their gentrifying, but in Athens the property market is the reverse, the city center is now a dump that is like an Islamic shitstain country and the outer areas of Athens are more expensive and sought after.
Finally this trip I spent much more time in the wealthier sections on the outer perimeter of Athens and the infrastructure still sucks, but it is nothing like the dystopia that is the Athens city center which is a mini Karachi or Dhaka at this point.
Btw, I don't want to screw anyone over with this post:
I am not saying or recommending to stay at those exburbs which are further away from almost all the tourist destinations you will want to visit. They are also further from the cultural events if you know Greek.
If you have more money it is probably better to stay in Monastiraki or Plaka that are in the city center but still too expensive for the Islamic riff raff to swarm on the property market. If you have less money it is probably better to stay in Exarcheia which is much cheaper, but poor Greek hippies, arthouse types, anarchists and communists still live there which limits the Islamic floodgate.
I personally have chosen a hotel in the center of Pakistan in Greece, Metaxourgeio. But I know Greek and much more interested in participating in Greek language nightlife(theater, concerts, etc.) and the city center is still closer where most of those venues are located. The nearby subway also has just a few stops till it connects to Trainose(suburban rail line), Omonia, Syntagma, etc.

Europe in general seems messed. I was watching some videos on Amsterdam, nothing but gay flags on the historical buildings and entirely tourists and non-whites. South Lake Tahoe. It's the most gorgeous place Ive ever seen. The lake is insane. Awesome outdoor bars. Amazing bike trails and hikes. But it still has a downtown area with a lot of good food and bars. Sitting around at the Hangar bar drinking beer by the fire at night under the stars is a vibe that's hard to match.
Jackson Hole Wyoming. The food is shockingly good. Every place in town is like a gourmet cowboy bar. You can do pretty much any outdoor outdoor activity. Whitewater rafting the snake river was one of the best experiences of my life. 3 days in Jackson Hole was not enough.
Maui. The best beaches Ive ever seen were in Makena on Maui. We found a condo for $300/night and that was a really good deal. I bought fresh fish a couple times and just grilled out to cut down on the outrageous restaurant bills we racked up. It's insanely expensive and we probably spent 4 grand on a 6 day trip for the 2 of us, but I felt like it was money well spent.
Worst
Portland Oregon. The memes are true. Portland is a homeless cesspool. There were homeless people camped out front of our Airbnb on a normal suburban street. It was one of the least charming cities Ive ever visited.
Atlantic City New Jersey. We parked the car and someone tried to sell us crack within 30 seconds. It's like vegas with none of the attractions but in the worst neighborhood you've ever seen.
Fresno California. You'll probably never go there, because why would you? I had to stay there for a conference. Your nightly choice of dining options are Dominoes Pizza, and a 24 hour McDonalds. It actually has worse crime than LA.There is literally NOTHING to do.
I’ve been to about 80 countries and I don’t think I genuinely hated any. Yeah there are up and downs but I have always found pleasant surprises. Some countries are better than others, for sure. Then there are countries I won’t really come back because I think I did most of it (tiny little ones).
Countries I liked the most:
- Paraguay: the memories of camping and herding cows with Paraguayan equivalent of gauchos in Chaco when I was kid still haunt me to this day.
- Iceland: did a multi-days trek in the middle of nowhere, in snowy volcanic landscape. Nothing is remotely similar.
- Extremadura in Spain, Yunnan in China in the early 00s, Chile, Lake Tahoe in Burgerland, some swampy place in Skåne Sweden (pic rel) etc. Too many things to list.
My latest trip was a road-trip in Netherlands. I liked it, I learned and saw a lot.

Rome - So much history and ancient ruins to see there. The city feels like a time capsule and some random back alley pizza shop gave us the best wine I've ever tasted for like 5 euros in a plastic water bottle.
Galway, Ireland - An absolutely gorgeous little town with a lot of culture.
Toronto - Compared to most cities in the US, it's super clean, quiet and feels safe (at least it did 15 years ago when I visited).
Worst:
Asbury Park, NJ - I got into a fender bender there and had to stay the night. Was told by the cops to stay away from the motels because there was a good chance I'd find a drug needle in the bed, and then some creepy middle aged dude aggressively hit on me at the hotel they dropped me off at (I was an 18 year old dude). There were absolutely no redeeming qualities about that place for me.
Paris - kind of a shithole with pickpockets everywhere who target tourists. The base of the Eiffel Tower is covered in Middle Eastern scammers and people aggressively trying to sell you junk. The architecture in the old city is really nice though.
Leeds, UK - was stuck there for six months on study abroad. One of the most boring places I've ever been.
As an urbexer I love Detroit and there is some really good cheap food there, very under rated. London not worst place I've been but it's definitely overrated

First in 2012, then far more substantially in 2019, the Chinese Communist Party forced the Hong Kong government to rewrite large parts of its legal framework (which was supposed to remain untouched until 2047) to align with Chinese law instead of the old British common law. Among other things, HK defendants can now be tried in Mainland China if the CCP demands it. It also purged the HK legislature of anyone who wasn’t fully sympathetic to the CCP.

As someone that's spent the past five summers in Lake George, you're really not missing out on much. The actual town is just filled with hotels, subpar restaurants, and novelty shops created to exploit middle-class families from downstate or French Canada. About it. It's the definition of a tourist town, honestly. The surrounding towns are idyllic suburbs with not much to do, but the influx of tourists/travelers during the summer can make traffic hectic. Not too great.

That's not specific to London, the entire UK has visibly been death spiraling for the past 12 years if not longer. There is absolutely no optimism left anywhere in this country, that's why Brexit was such a big deal, for many it was their best chance at a future to look forward to with all the promises being made about it. London in particular is largely filled up with people who are honestly just struggling to survive on hopelessly stagnant wages in an extremely expensive city with massive inflation, so you're not the only one wanting to kill themselves for being their, there's just fuck all for work outside of London so it's still one's best chance sadly.

San Francisco gets a lot of hate because of the homeless shit. but there are some really awesome and unique things to see in san fran. Biking around angel island, alcatraz, Muir Woods, Fort Funsten, The Golden Gate Bridge, The Presidio Park, Fisherman's Wharf, Golden Gate Park, Muir Beach, Sausalito, Tenesee Valley, Mount Tam, etc. There is an awesome brewery scene, a bunch of good live music venues, great asian food, crazy festivals. I dont know how people have a bad time in SF. Just don't leave anything in your car and stay away from the mission district where the homeless people congregate and you'll enjoy it a lot more.

You have to go to SF in the off-season. Muir Woods is never crowded because they implemented a reservation system. It's one of the most beautiful parks in the US. If you're bored in Muir Woods, that's on you. We hiked up the mountain along a creek under giant redwood trees and saw like 4 waterfalls along the way. We never passed another person on the Bootjack trail in October.

funny you mention Molde. I lived there for a year and found it clean, safe, prosperous, and completely devoid of charm and energy. Sort of place that makes you feel like you're missing out on the world by being there. Though I'm not Norwegian so I was probably isolated from the social aspects. Ended up liking Palermo because met some tight Sicilian bros at a punk bar there who took me to a street party with 1euro beers in an alley where everyone was partying on like a Thursday night. Oh yeah I feel like Palermo's objectively a dump and there are easily far better places in Italy, but it's still one of my favourite cities. I went to a bar and met some locals, and Palermo lose in the Serie B playoff final due to very obvious cheating on the part of the other team. The pure, unbridled and utterly infectious southern Italian anger on display (mixed with my own English "wah th'fuck are these cunts dooin?!") was something to behold, it was fucking great.

Southern California in general is a really nice place to live (except LA proper obviously) but it's not great for tourists, unless you're there for outdoors stuff like surfing or mountain biking.
You really need a local to show you the good shit in socal. The tourists all end up doing the wrong shit. Hollywood is a dump. Venice beach is a shithole. The tour busses all go to the La Brea Tar Pits. Why the fuck would you go to a tar pit? Disneyland is ok, but it gets too fucking crowded and if you don't get a fast pass, you end up riding 4 rides in 12 hours. Then you end up on a tour bus driving around Beverly Hills looking at "celebrity houses". It's a lame vacation that costs way too much.
The best California trip you can do is to go stay in Yosemite National Park in June when the waterfalls are going off. All the good beaches are between Huntington Beach in Orange County and La Jolla in San Diego. The best month for the beaches is September after the Mexicans are back in Riverside and LA.

It has a serious problem with petty crime and if you don’t keep your wits about you or don’t take sensible precautions you’re very likely to have your pockets picked or be mugged. If this doesn’t happen to you you’ll love Barca; if it happens to you you’ll hate it. If you are from a fancy place with no real street crime you might find having to think about muggers at all upsetting.
My bro loved out there for a while under Erasmus. Everyone eventually got crimed. He ended up having a neck pouch thing he kept actual valuables in, and carried around a sacrificial wallet with only €20 in it which was no great loss when it inevitably was taken from him. I’m from the UK but Barcelona has become a home away from home, my girlfriend lives there and I’m planning on moving there soon.
I’ve spent a generous amount of time there, clubbing, out drinking late on my own etc and I’ve never been a victim of crime. That being said, I’m ACUTELY aware of where this crime occurs, who and what to look out for and directly how to avoid it.
The problem is as follows. Moroccans and Africans flood the city illegally. Thousands of unsuspecting tourists on a daily basis. Very old winding streets that are endlessly confusing, dark and unmonitored by CCTV etc. Super left wing local government and a jaded police force who have stopped caring about it.
The dead centre of Barcelona, La Rambla and adjacent areas like El Born and El Raval are most dangerous. I fucking love El Born, but it’s somewhere I always make sure I have my wits about me at night. A few weeks ago I was stumbling back from a bar when the World Cup was on. Must have been 1am. Clearly Moroccan looking young guy, fake Gucci bag and all the works, is scoping me out from his electric scooter, going slowly staring at me and looking around. I stop right in front of him, light a cigarette and show zero intimidation. I see a big group of Uber eats cyclists around the corner so I shift over to them quickly and continue to smoke. I saw him circling the area maybe 5 times after that, to which he then zipped off 5 minutes or so later.

I've never felt more European than I did driving around all the small towns and through the incredibly scenery all over the country. I did a whole circle and the northern and eastern part are probably my favorites. The second you get to a big city it's like waking up from a dream, unfortunately.

Only part I really hate is how they let all sorts of scum shit up the beautiful entrance of Milano Centrale, probably the most beautiful train station I've ever been to. I used to be in Milan often and I always hated how much rubbish was there. But trains stations in Italy are pretty much always shitholes in major cities.

Geneva, Switzerland. Gorgeous city, prestine nature surrounding and even in the suburbs there are really cool ravines and nature spots. Terrible bang for buck though. Even a basic lunch 10 years ago cost as much as a combo meal today.
Edinburgh, Scotland. Even when the weather sucks its just a very uniquely fun city. Really well planned out for active types and great mix of restaurants and architecture.

New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Possibly the most unsafe city in America. Even Chicago felt like Tokyo levels of safe compared to the nightmare of New Orleans. However outside of being followed by a pickpocket/mugger I still didn't have as many problems here as I did in Vegas. The food is also far superior as is the local music scene.
Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Cold boring shithole who's only benefit is being within 2 hours of prestine nature as long as you're there in off season before the Chinese tourists plague the area. The city itself is either a soulless husk akin to Buffalo, NY or a long strip of woke socjus businesses with terrible food and service. I hear Edmonton is leagues worse so thankfully I've never been yet and hopefully will never end up there.

Did my first solo trip here, was totally lost and confused the first day, but after that enjoyed it. Loved the views, amazing hikes, beaches, islands, hills, culture, shopping, amazing food, party scene, booming craft beer scene, chill atmospheres and all in such a close vicinity with amazing accessibility. The hike with the many waterfalls was a highlight, did it with just half a water bottle, a huge hangover and 3 hours of sleep, but loved it so much.

Huge city, so much variety in things to see and do. Cultural variety as well. Mosques just a few blocks away from the best Electronic music clubs you can imagine. One of my fav clubs worldwide was very close to Taksim. Turkish food is absolutely top tier, lots of culture and the friendliest people you can imagine. Extremely hectic traffic though, but I didnt mind it that much.

It's amazingly bad. Made all the worse for its modern miracles of engineering being wasted on a sweltering shithole full of literal slavekeepers and their hordes of third world and African vermin.
It's so hot in Dubai that you will die of heatstroke if you stand outside for 30 minutes, some times of the year. The metal and concrete and asphalt retain the heat and blast it out all night long also, so it barely cools down at all. Imagine walking outside at 2am and feeling heat radiating at you from below and all sides since everything was baking all day.
There is no escape except in massive air conditioned areas which are plentiful, but also completely fake and also packed with confused looking displaced brownoids trying to spend their meager paycheck.

Firenze - visited in winter, outside main tourist season. The cathedral is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, and the Uffizi galleries were magnificent.
Raasay - small island just off the Isle of Skye in Scotland. Very nice if you didn't bring your own vehicle, as it is small enough that you can explore on foot - the backdrop, across a narrow sea, is the Isle of Skye. Breathtakingly beautiful, and extremely nice and hospitable people, being a tiny island of 40 permanent residents or so.
Bath in England. Magnificently beautiful, and I honestly had no idea the English could pull something like that off. Placed near the Cotswolds which is also a wonderful bit of nature for hiking and sightseeing.
Worst:
Munich. combines everything that is bad about Germany. Overpriced, boring, ugly, and the people are all autists who think they are better than you because they used their autism to work in a bank and make a lot of money.
Krakow: Absolutely insane seeing street vendors in clown outfits do a little hop and dance to advertise tours to FUCKING AUSCHWITZ. Absolutely insane that lads on tour go there to get pissed, see Auschwitz, and then get pissed again. Least favorite part of Poland. I much prefer their smaller cities, which are wonderful.
London. It just fucking sucks. Most of it is ugly by now, most of it is expensive because it has become a favorite of the most gaudy and tasteless rich internationals, and all the pretty little places, like parks in the center of housing blocks are locked up to prevent them from being spoiled by filthy non-residents. There is not a single bench in Belgravia because they hate you loitering without spending money in a cafe. Inhospitable town unless you have oil and oligarch levels of wealth.

The bath was built by the Romans. And the church was built by the French.
Bath is not just the Roman baths. The entire city is covered in Georgian architecture and elaborate parks. There's a very specific stone they only quarry there and it's probably one of the best stones for buildings in terms of aesthetics. It's a very, very rich town and it shows the very best of Britain. You can forget you live in England when you are in Bath. Just a stunning place. I worked there for a hostel for a year, the place is pure soul, also I met so many cool people there. BTW - you can get a resident card and enter the bath's for free. They're not too picky about proof of residence, you could literally book a hostel weeks before, have a letter mailed there and use that as a reference. It also works for other attractions and lasts 3 years. If you can be bothered with getting a bicycle, go down the canals to Dundas Aqueduct or cycle thru the mountain in what used to be the railway cutting thru Bath Hills - in fact I recommend hiking around the town on the same hills as you get great views. I detest most things about Britain, the weather, most of the people, ugly architecture, but Bath is an absolute pearl, it's undeniably one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.Somerset is the best place in England. Compared to other big cities Bristol isn't half bad, although I could never live there.

You have some immigration, but it's mostly Eastern Europeans and well educated people. So not really. It's mostly white British who live there. It's not far off from what people idealize as rural Britain. If the English weather wasn't so bad and they had good cuisine, like French or Italians, I'd probably move there when I get older. Really love the rolling hills, meadows, all the pubs, local cider and canals and the river Avon near and round Bath. If you ever go, go during May - August. When I lived there I got the best amount of sunlight mid May till late June. Summer is pretty good for UK, but still not as great as anything on the continent.
Bath bun is also worth trying out, my favourite dessert from UK, even better than crumpets imho. Tea, clotted cream and jam is GOAT tier with it.
Unless you're hanging around Twerton you won't even see anything like that.
Agreed Bath is by a stretch the best city to visit in England. Unless you're just interested in the vibe in summer I wouldn't spent more than a couple of days there though.
I would also recommend going through the Gloucestershire Cotswolds than Somerset though.
Oh wow there's .... some tiny statue at the end of a street. And wow look theres a historic town square ... that literally every city on the continent has.
There's a regional ticket that covers a huge area. When I still used to use it, I always brought the one with the student discount - driver's never check anything if you're using the app. I made trips to Wells, Weston-Super-Mare, Cheddar, etc. with it. Bath alone can be done in probably a day or two, but I recommend a few days to explore the country side and smaller towns, also Bristol. It's probably one of the nicest corners of England.
Here's a trip I recommend.
Take a bike (or walk, but it will take longer).
Go to Come Down Tunnel, the northern end. Basically it's an old railway tunnel that is now a walking/cycling path. It quite long and it's always pretty cold inside, even during the summer. I've gone through it several times and I always get a slightly eerie feeling.
When you emerge, follow the green road towards Monkton Combe. It's a very, very classical English village. There's a pretty church and a cemetery. Then continue along towards Dundas Aqueduct. There the Bath canal crossed river Avon. There's also a railroad underneath and it's a good spot if you're into trainspotting. You can't miss it, it looks bigger than any of the photos in person. There you have the option to go to either Bradford on Avon as signed off with teal for a daytrip. There's another aqueduct on the way there, albeit it is less impressive. It gets more wooded after Dundas going towards Bradford, so if that is your jam you'll like it. Otherwise follow the blue line, along the canal, to go back to Bath. It's a very, very nice cycling trip all around. You're mostly following level ground too as you go directly under the hills in the first stage and then circumvent them going back.
Best done on a sunny day for full kino. May/June is probably the best time, everything is green, days are sunny and it doesn't rain that much.

Los Angeles is an urban nightmare, gigantic streets made for cars so you can't really go from one neighborhood to another without one (it would be unsafe anyway), and the only people that seem to actually have fun there probably earn around my early salary monthly. Whatever soul was depicted in movies like the Big Lebowski is completely gone. The poor people are just hustling fiends and the rich ones are going to their vegan restaurant so they can stuff their faces with kale and papaya chutney.

>Yerevan: 40C in the summer, -30 and polluted in the winter. Conservative, full of "Russian hospitality", and run down. Rough language barrier if you don't speak Armenian /Russian well. Met some really nice people there though.
Best:
Mainland Mexico. Not too many tourists, friendly folk, excellent bus system. Good surf trip or highland cities. El Salvador honorable mention
Central California. SF is s real city, Monterey peninsula is primo, Tahoe and Big Sur and Yosemite. Expensive.
Montreal. Went here for a long weekend in high summer with perfect weather. Rafted on St. Lawrence, stroll to top of Mt. Real, drinks in city. Solid 7s everywhere.
Bonus: Teton Range. Jackson Hole has epic terrain, Targhee has epic snow. Expensive.
Worst:
Manhattan. Loud, smelly, ugly, expensive. I don't care about culture.
Barcelona. Loud and smelly. I don't care about culture.
Nicaragua. The surf is weak and the spots are too tide sensitive and therefore packed. Like 90 minute tide windows, incoming tide only. A swell thar will be well overhead in Mexico will be chest high. Too many Brazilians.

Went to Amboseli, beautiful national park with a great view of the Kilimanjaro. Had a comfortable stay in the Serena lodge with cute monkeys roaming the grounds. Nairobi is fine but I didn't do much there except going to some great barbeque places and doing a tour of Nairobi NP. Visited a local's family in the jungle near Thika, which was a very chill environment. Going back this summer.

Beautiful city with lush parks, nice people and very bike-friendly. Definitely going to revisit sometime.

Went during COVID so there were very few tourists except for Italians. Met some locals and spend a whole day at the vineyard on the cemetery island getting wasted. I was there for a whole week but wanted to stay even longer. If it wasn't for the tourists I'd want to live there.
Worst

Dirty, weird people, overpriced. Good pizza though and the tour of the USS Growler was interesting. I don't really have any other negative travel experiences.
Forgot about Paris, the whole city smells like piss and graffiti everywhere. Also pushy people trying to sell you souvenirs randomly walk up to you everywhere. Not a fun experience, I expected more from France's capital.
Favorite:
Mt Athos, Greece - Amazing place, something otherworldly about it. No women, no billboards, just the waves crashing against the cliffs and the mountain looming overhead. I stayed at Simonopetra and the accommodations were comfy and super clean
Cappadocia, Turkey - The geography is awesome. Fun place to hike around and explore even if it's become touristic
Naples - I heard a lot about muh crime and muh immigrants but I really enjoyed it. More characteristic than the northern cities I visited and the food was cheap and fantastic. Sorbillo was god tier

Jordan has some nice stuff but the people have the annoying Arab pushy scammy attitude, plus some taxi driver told me that there are too many Christians in a city that has been christian for like 2000 years, and he kept swooning about Saddam, then got pissed when I talked about Assad.

NTA, but Germans tend to be very stiff, unfun and generally passive aggressive. Also poor social skills in general. Germany itself is quite shit, most cities are quite ugly outside of the historical city center (most of which has been rebuilt anyways as they were bombed to stone age), people are boring, weather is quite shit too, the food isn't great as they hardly ever bother with traditional dishes and the variety is rather shallow.
yeah, can confirm. germany is only good in a few small pockets which haven't been completely ruined by the effects of ww2 (not just talking about the buildings but the people too). especially the bigger cities are ugly soulless dumps full of angry and rude people and lots of violent muslims.
