$500-700 per month decent airbnb

Where in the world is this possible? It seems more and more even shitholes in south america charge at least $1k monthly for a decent apartment (No I'm not staying and sharing a room with dirty backpackers).

Is this possible in Asia?

are you even looking dude? SEA is cheap.

I'm guessing that's not in Bangkok right? The issue with Thailand is I can only stay 30 days and visa runs are annoying. I want to stay at least 3 months in a place and save as much as possible. A visa run is adding at least $200 per month to a place.

        >Bangkok

stay out of bangkok if you are staying a full 3 months. its the NYC of SEA, expensive as shit. Stay out of Pattaya because its a degenerate shithole full of drunken coomers, a weekend is fine just to see the craziness but don't stay long term, it'll eat your soul.

        >Visa
are you American? did you bother to do even the most basic research? Get the actual Thai tourist visa, its 60 days and you can extend another 30 once you're in country.

Also, Cambodia is equally cheap and you can do 30 days Chiang Mai > catch a hopper flight > stay in Siem Reap for 30 days > back to CM. only one "visa run" for the entire 3 months.

Seems like you wanna do Portugal. Tourist visa lasts 3 months.

Okay? and the airbnbs are like 50k per month there.

I have no idea why but Airbnb is INCREDIBLY overpriced. You can get a real apartment at like 1/3 the price AirBnB charges but you need to stay
      A) stay there like 6 months
      B) contact them on Facebook or through a realtor
C)you won't find anything cheap on AirBnB so don't bother.

Korea has some dogshit moronic system where you give the landlord a huge deposit and they give you a REALLY cheap rent. Apparently they use your deposit to gamble on the stock market but legally they have to return it to you. You can also stay at a goxiwon which (unless things have changed) were cheaper than SEA. You get a private room with a bed table and fridge. Only problem is that it's the size of a closet and you can't bring girls back there (not that they would want to go back there with you).

As a short term tourist SEA isn't as cheap as you think it is. Maybe it was in the past or if you want to go to some rural village.

Ok I made some research, I'm not american and I have to do some annoying visa process including shipping my passport to them to get a stamp.

I can do a 60 day + 30 days extension. Annoying thing is I won't be able to get back into the country so no re entry possible.

My priorities are having a decent apartment with good wi fi (at least 40 up/down speed)
and a decent bed as I have a bad back. A nice office chair would be nice but I guess if I'm staying 3 months I can just buy one and resell it.

In order of interest in Asia in general it would be for me Japan>SK>Vietnam>Thailand>Philippines

Japan is expensive and doesn't have decent internet if I want a place to myself. South Korea I think might be doable outside of Seoul? Vietnam looks cheap but visas beyond 1 month are a pain. Thailand looks like the best bang for my buck destination, philippines seems to be more expensive than most of SEA and at that point I might just pay a bit more to stay in Japan or Korea.

Any advice on itinerary? I want to start this trip in 3-4 months.

you won't be able to get back into the country with the VISA. you can get back into the country with your passport (assuming you're from a visa exempt country). why would you have to send them your passport? you should just be able to do an e-visa on the thai consulate website.

Japan isn't that bad at the moment because the Yen is in the toilet. As long as you stay out of Tokyo and go to one of the second tier cities like Fukuoka or Niigata you can get an AirBnB apartment/condo for about $800.

SK is just Japan lite and is equally expensive if not more so if you're staying in Seoul.

the popular Digital Nomad SEA rotation is Thailand > Cambodia > Vietnam, one month in each. hopper flights between the three are cheap, like $100 or so. all 3 countries are about equal in terms of CoL. Vietnam has killer monthly AirBnB deals BECAUSE of the fricky visa situation so if you can swing a full 30 days there you can live pretty posh.

There is no e visa for my country. The VOA only gives me 15 days. Single entry for 60 days (Extendable to 30) can only be processed in my home country's capital.

Then I'd stick to Thailand but arrange a visa with Vietnam or Cambodia for maybe the last month or so in case you don't like where you are at. If you've never done the whole extended remote work thing, committing to 3 full months in a single place without an alternate exit strategy can sour it for you. good luck.

I'm used to remote. I'm just coming back from 6 months in Colombia. However I had some bad times at first as I spent an uncomfortable first month until I rented my current 2 bedroom apartment on facebook marketplace for $600 a month.

Vietnam does have an e visa I think. I read somewhere that they planned to make the process easier. I think I would skip Cambodia over Malaysia since they have easy entry and nice airbnbs.

The only thing really stopping me is flight prices. I live in a LATAM country and it's not cheap to find a direct flight, most likely will end up making a stop in Europe first (I was thinking Albania, Serbia, Turkey for cheap countries)

Otherwise Bulgaria, Poland or the Baltic countries. Germany Sachsen region is also okay. Airbnb still works there perfectly. dont ask how I know.

Just walk into a building in the location you want to live in and ask the property manager if they have any rentals available.

You don't need airbnb. Just pay cash. You can live 10 mins from the bts for $600 a month. $800 if you want to be closer to nightlife.

This too, but lots of countries in EU are extremely over regulated and won't give you housing without you showing ID card and bunch of shit. Much better to befriend airbnb hosts tbh, they are hustlers. If shit ever hits the fan, say you report them to the IRS

The IRS doesn't have much power in the EU...

What pisses me off is the rules don't apply for mystery meat migrants in EU countries. They can show up and squat on your property rent-free for months. Police can't do shit about it.

But heaven forbid you're a law-abiding citizen and you try to do ANYTHING without a million permits in France.

Still possible in Chiang Mai as of late 2022, and that’s AUD. In USD you have shitloads of options throughout the Middle East and Asia.

If you want to travel in this time and in a few more years, you got to stop being a brokegay and up the ante on credit. It isn't going to get any easier from here on.
