A have a chronic illness and I suffer from anxiety
For this reason I don’t wish to travel alone

However I would be happy to fly with someone with me

I’m curious how can I go about meeting a fellow travel buddy

I don’t have any friends who would be interested in travelling

How can I get a travel buddy?

You don’t need a travel buddy I have anxiety and Crohn’s disease and travel alone 90% of the time you quickly get over constantly overthinking worse case scenarios

I’m terrified of missing my flight I don’t know how to navigate an airport

And the flights I’m doing are long haul like 13 hours

I’m sorry but that is just pathetic and I really do sympathise with having chronic illness and anxiety

You sound like my sister. She has wanted to go to Japan for years. Yes she would say something exactly like this.

Best thing you can do is get off your ass and visit the airport you want to fly out of in the future. Spend the whole day there. Walk around. Talk to the employees. Use the bathroom. Count all the gates.

Heck, bring a full bag of luggage and carry it around. Pretend you're going somewhere. Look up a flight and pretend it's yours. Wake up early and pretend you're leaving for it. Listen for the gate number and announcements and go to it. Sit with the waiting passengers and watch how they line up.

Still feel nervous? do it again next week. And again until you feel comfortable.

I have sympathy for anxiety, but not for laziness.

How do I escape the airport though since I can’t get through security as I don’t actually have a flight

            Anonymous

Actually yeah you can't go into a gate since you're not flying there.

Well anyway once you arrive at the right terminal, which is most important, finding your gate is easy from there.

but you can't just talk your way into understanding it, anon. You're going to have to go on a flight yourself. Like other's said, if this is too big of a jump for you just do a local flight first.

Well that's another problem. Save some more. Also I always say that if you go travel somewhere but come back completely broke you shouldn't have gone in the first place. Sounds like you're still not ready man, mentally nor financially.

You can't invest a couple of hundred dollars? Doing the test run now is likely to save you money in the future, if you really want to do the long-haul flight.

OP wants to write a check that deep down he knows he's not ready to cash.

You can only stretch yourself so far before you break. Don't go man. This sounds like a disaster in the making. Let's not even get into this PH girl you've never met in person.

Go to the airport 3 hours before your flight
Each airline has a row of check-in booths reserved for them, consult a sign and visit an appropriate booth
Show them your passport. They will take your checked bags if any and give you your boarding pass.
Next step is security. Everything is clearly labeled and there are workers telling you exactly what to do.
After security you pass through shopping areas and eventually get to the gates.
Look at your boarding pass to find out which gate your plane departs from.
Go to the gate and wait.
                Board plane.
                Fly.
                Land.
                Now what?

                Profit!

I remember feeling overwhelmed similarly to OP, but airports are easier to understand than he thinks. They have to be in order to transit millions of people a week. But he talks as if he's never even used public transit before.

It's interesting how many people seem to have Crohn's or some form of stomach issue where they shit often and can't eat certain foods. Great to know there are other SighSeecrohnsbros.

Does it bother you, needing to be back in your home country to get your biologic every 2 months (big assumption here, but that seems like the most common treatment)? I just planned a 3 week vacation between Inflectra doses. Don't have any more vacation than that so I'm ok

    >I’m terrified of missing my flight I don’t know how to navigate an airport
    Grow the frick up.
    >read signs to go to gate
    >look at arrows and map as where gate is
    >go to gate and wait
    Holy shit that was hard!

You don't want a travel buddy you want a tour guide, don't be one of those frickers who "wants a friend" then shoves all the responsibility onto their "friend". You people are the absolute worst.

Just get to the airport early and you'll be fine.

Sometimes you don’t know the gate until like an hour before

        Anonymous

If you can't find the gate in and get to it while IN the airport in under an hour, you shouldn't be traveling. Like they have carts for people who can't walk in all airports, accelerated walk ways to help you move faster, signs fricking everywhere. If a Gate changes within 30 minutes of boarding they delay the plane almost always.

But if I follow the people who are on different flights I will get lost

You need to be 18 to post here. If you can not follow simple directions such as signs, you have no business traveling.

Turn up hours early if you're so scared about missing your flight. Just attach yourself to someone when you get there if you're reaply scared about not being able to navigate, or just ask a member of staff. Ultimately realise that worst case scenario if you do miss the plane then it doesn't matter.

You remind me why I travel alone, and only meet my friends at the destination.

It's another episode of that friend who
        >won't make an itinerary or schedule for their vacation so constantly trying to figure shit out during
        >doesn't know or doesn't want to use the automated terminals for check-in/luggage/etc
        >won't get a mobile boarding pass because checking in online like the email tells you isn't safe WHAT IF SOMETHING CHANGES?!?!
        >instead of just asking or googleing the information comes up with crazy stories from his boomer parents
        >won't read the signs telling you exactly what to do
        >won't layover in X because "oh that place isn't good I heard it from someone"
        >when going through security won't listen to the guys screaming instructions because ????

If you have anxiety or nerves about a vacation the easiest way to knock that shit out is simply by making an itinerary and sticking to it. Most airports are designed so anyone without english skills can still make it to A9 gate from B2 gate. If an AIRPORT is filtering you from travel I can just imagine what a nervous wreck you would be in the country you want to visit.

No, you sound like you'd be clingy. Nothing more I hate than travelling with someone who absolutely positively NEEDS to be with me wherever I go because they're "too scared" only for them to complain because they don't want to be here. Learn to travel alone, follow the rules, read signs, plan ahead, have contingencies, stop being a fricking coward.

I doubt anyone would want to travel with such an unfortunate person like you

        Anonymous

Nah as others pointed out this is clearly a clingy anon who wants to experience the joys of travel but isn't willing to do any of the leg work. If you've ever traveled with a few friends this is painfully obvious that OP wants a tour guide. If OP seriously can't navigate the basics of an airport then doing anything abroad would be a nightmare. An airport is probably the safest place to navigate and if OP truly has anxiety this bad for that, I can't imagine what anon would be like in public.

If OP actually has anxiety this bad to where simple directions are too much of a burden without resulting in some panic attack or inability to follow simple directions as a result, he needs to go get professional medical help. Simple as.

Anon speaks the truth though. Once went to Brussels with a friends friend who had anxiety issues and holy shit I'd never do that again. Nothing like stopping every 50 meters because "I... I NEED A MAP! WHERE'S A MAP??" and not doing cool events because "there's too many people", like b***h we're tourists going to a tourist destination, of course there's going to be fricking swabs of people. Point is, OP needs to learn independence because playing babysitter is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Try travelling domestically first then move up from there.

Man what a nightmare. Gotta try and pick your travel partners carefully. At least when you go alone you can find others who are doing the same thing as you and freely ditch them if they suck. I wish I did that myself.

Just say you are 25F, you'll get hundreds of hits and by the time they meet you, an unlikeable 250lb balding American male they'll just deal with it and try to make the best of a bad situation. Eurogays are good like that.

The adult way of dealing with this would be to start out small. Take a cheap, short-distance flight to a minor airport for a weekend. If things fail, you aren't out much, and you aren't stranded halfway across the world. And bring spare clothing in your carry-on.
