I don't think anyone here has been to Croatia. It's a very obscure country.

It's been ruined by American tourists wanting to relive Game of Thrones. It's fricking pathetic. It used to be a nice, inexpensive place to relax and enjoy the sun. Now it's a fricking nightmare.

The Croatian coast is more expensive than a lot of places in Italy these days. It's nuts.

I'm hoping in a few years people will forget about the show and then it'll slow back down to normal.

Been there in Summer 2022, can confirm; it's definetly more expensive than most italian coasts apart from the usual tourist infested shitholes like positano.

Spent a week there last September. It's alright. Did a pub crawl in zagreb, smoked cigarettes inside a bar. Called some guy hanging all over the bar taking up space, a Black person. Then said to a local they are like this everywhere it is pathetic.
Chatted with him for a while he bought my drink. Didn't do any game of thrones shit. Went to a toplice.

They just hung a gayflag in their parliament. That tells you what rules the country. Go to Serbia or any other non-EUSSR Balkan lands

How do croats handle traveling around their ridiculously shaped country? Imagine needing to go all the way around that hook, only to need to go through BH anyway to get to the exclave. Why don't they just trave some of the coast with BH's top, maybe the land's not as valuable but wouldn't they save so much in time and transport

Anon, that coast, every inch of it, is the most precious thing Croatia has. Keeping this treasure after Yugoslavia's downfall was like inheriting a goldmine from your grandpa while the rest of your family has to go home with his collection of pet rocks.

It was amazing twenty years ago, I'll tell you this much.
Utterly ruined by tourism though. It's packed to the brim and ridiculously expensive.

It's a primitive culture. But if you're just visiting you'll only get a small taste of the knuckle dragging. They poison cats as the primary means of animal control, bury dogs alive, and chain horses hoof to hoof. Source: 7 years living in Dalmatia.

If you were raised in the West, don't get any romantic ideas of moving to Croata, or any Balkan country. It's very fricking different than the West.

Bros I am flying into Budapest then taking a bus/train into Croatia in july for ultra fest.

I have no itinerary in Croatia yet. Can anyone recommend me cities or sites worth visiting? Should I skip zagreb and go straight to the coast?

Im looking to enjoy the ocean, nightlife, and natural areas. Budget friendly is a plus. Thank you for any info.

I booked a trip to Croatia for this summer (1st half of august), but only afterwards did I realise it will be high-peak-full-100%-mass-tourism season. I need advice bros, what are relatively quiet places in Croatia during high season? I know Split, Dubrovnik, Plitvice & Krka will be a lost cause. But what about Istria, Zadar, Korčula, the Makarska mountains etc? Where can I escape the hordes of bongs and insta-thots and still enjoy Croatian culture?

Flying into Zagreb tomorrow and staying in Croatia for a week; gonna take the train to Split and stay for a couple days. Any train-accessible coastal cities I should check out for the remainder of the week? Wanted to go to Dubrovnik and Rovinj but they're not accessible by train and the bus routes would be too much of a PITA since I need to end up back in Zagreb.

I'll let you know in a week anons, but most things I've read say that Zagreb isn't worth more than a day or so compared to the coastal cities
