Hello. Around October or November of this year, I'm going to Paris for first time ever and I want some advice. I'm from Argentina myself and I have been only in Europe just once (traveled to Italy in 2012, with my mom and aunt) but this is different because I'm going alone.
I have the checklist of all the popular attractions, the pantheon, tower eiffel, museum louvre, Cathédrale Notre-Dame, and the opera. So i'm going for the more art/culture interest but also food.
Something people have been saying of Paris is the african and muslim people living there, but I'm not scared, can't be worse than the neighborhood I was raised in argentina. So I'm pretty open to "lost myself" in the city.
Its there anything I should def know? any secret cool spot I should check? cool restaurants?
Versailles might be worth a visit, even more so if you haven't seen any of the versailles-copies that dot the rest of europe.
Paris is magnificent. I've got a saying, "When in Paris, look up, you dont want to look down"
Architecture is the best there is
For food i recommend going to Bouillons, cheap typical french food with cheap wines and nice ambiance.
I like the Petit Palais museum very much, i recommend.
Only thing i'd recommend you avoid is the east side of the city, 18th,19th and 20th arrondissements can get really trashy third world ridden
Not OP but thank you anon for the recommendation going to Bouillons. I'm going there for the first time and I dont like fancy restaurants and I hate fast food even more, I always look for typical working class old mans sorts of places and this fits the bill nicely
First things first - choose which neighborhood to stay, They vary drastically and although the Metro is awesome, you want a home base with a few things you can easily walk to. I stayed in St Germain last time and it ruled, but I'm thinking of going north of the river to the 2nd or 3rd arrondissement next time. There are tons of guides to check out.
Restaurants - don't go to the very closest thing to a major attraction. We only had two bad (actually average) experiences and both were because we made that mistake. Walk two blocks in any direction and you'll find something better.
Attractions - I cannot recommend climbing up Sacre-Coeur hard enough. Badass church in general, but you can pay a pittance and climb all over the thing and it is cool as shit. Do it early to beat all the other loudmouths so you don't have to listen to them talk. I also definitely recommend the Pantheon. I knew Rousseau and Voltaire were buried there, what I didn't know is pretty much every other French person you've ever heard of is in there too. I found Victor Hugo AND Alexandre Dumas by accident.
And if you're into sculpture, Musee Rodin for sure!
I live in Paris.
As for shitskins, they usually live in the suburbs so you only have to deal with the worst ones in some specific neighborhood. There’s an explosion of poojeet population though, they sre absolutely everywhere nowadays.
For food, you can ask any question.
As pointed out, absolutely avoid restaurants in major touristic hotspots. They are almost always crap (pre-heated and frozen crap). Absolutely avoid anything near the Eiffel Tower, near the Arc de Triomphe. Some touristic neighborhood have ok to decent restaurants. I dislike google maps because people praise too much, but when a restaurant is lower than 3.7, it usually means it’s pretty bad if even normies hated it. Don’t pay attention to good ratings, just look at low ones.
Your best bet is to try neighborhood cafés - they’re not always good but they are often decent enough and not stupid expensive, especially at lunch. If you’re running out of time, you can try a bakery and get a sandwich. Please do not support those shitty poke bowls joints, we have enough of these.
bouillon chartier’s food is not the best, it’s pretty ok but the prices are absolutely low by Paris standards and you get to eat very typical and traditional “people” food. Historically, bouillon restaurants were for working classes. Go there to meet and chat with people and the interior is absolutely great. Go there at 11:45, from 12 it will be fully packed and you’ll have to queue like a retard.
Make sure to check the arrondissement.
I stayed in the 2nd when I went, next to the Grand Rex . It's great, easy to get everywhere else and heaps of restaurants and cafes around. I had a really positive experience with Paris and I think it was because I was staying there. There are scammers at all the big attractions but you can ignore them. The area around Sacré-Cœur was a bit unsafe and the walk from the train to where I stayed also seemed unsafe.
The French really don't do integration/assimilation very well (coming from an Australian).
Paris is definitely the biggest western European shithole. I've been to all the main cities and never felt so unsafe. Nafris roaming the streets at night looking for easy targets. Not even in Naples you see shit like that with all the wannabe mafiosos. France has fallen.
god damn naggers win again
what a shame, we need to end their spread of darkness
>t. I've never been to Europe but I have 10000 hours of reading /misc/
Naples looks poor but I never had a bad experience going on, unlike New York which looks rich but I got robbed two times in a week there.
Good luck in any other city on Earth, you are weak, your soul and your blood are WEAK
It's safer than any city in the USA so I'd say it's not bad by big city standards
>Paris Catacombs
>Place du Tertre
>Jardin du Luxembourg, if you can't get to Versaille
>Moulin Rouge
>At the Louvre, find your way into the basement
Oh, and for keks:
>Charlie Hebdo offices
>Bataclan theatre
can this board please stop using the expression "Baby's first ______ "
it's incredibly cringe and I only see it on SighSee
You don't browse /a/ and SighSee, then.
How new are you?
How do I avoid pick pockers?
Don’t look retarded and put your backpack in front. They usually target people who look “slow” to react or with little spatial awareness.
Pickpockets are usually quite easy to detect; most of the times it’s (ugly) girls and kids, always gypsies.
Touristy and crowded neighborhoods usually have most of these, especially around major department stores and the most famous landmarks and museums have many of them. And metro, especially when it’s packed.
Restaurants are often targets of thieves as well, NEVER hang your belongings on the back of your seat, except if the restaurant is not tight and there’s quite a lot of open space around you. The most classic way they use, especially in restaurants where you don’t need to be seated by a waiter (or during peak rush hour with no entrance control), is to seat behind you and slowly steal your shit. It’s not very common but I saw it with my own eyes once.
Avoid interaction with ANY gypsy or weird looking non-white.
If you don't know how to avoid pickpocketers than you will have to accept your fate as their prey my friend. Better you than me.
don't have a big bag, get your shit with you in difficult accessible pockets, avoid shitskins as much as possible. Gypsies are shitskins easy to spot.
There are nice restaurants and pubs there.
You might have : Musée Rodin and La Pagode
Simple question: where can I try the best and cheapest soupe à l'oignon in Paris?
bouillon pigalle. Cheap as fuck.
Go there before 12. It gets quickly packed.
second this, their soupe a l'oignon is based
Bistrot des Vosges had a good one
Beware, niggas in paris.
For food, as everyone else said dont go to places near touristic spots, use google rating, and if you want to try more expensive restaurants, look up those which have a "lunch menu" during week days. Those can be 50% cheaper than in the evening, even if you dont get access to everything on the menu. Some french restaurants I like: Bistrot Paul Bert, Orgueil, le Bélisaire, Cinq Mars, Le Bon Georges, Janine.
For culture you could also do lots of churches most people dont visit like Saint-Roch, Saint-Eustaches, Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois, Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis, Notre-Dame-du-Travail, Saint-Roch, Saint-Séverin, Saint-Eugène Sainte-Cécile, Saint-Alexandre-Nevsky..
Other museums like Pompidou, Orsay (a must-do), l'Orangerie, Jacquemart André, Palais de Tokyo, Musée de l'armée..
I also love to take long walk in the city. Go to Notre-Dame, walk along the Seine to the Grand Palais and stop on your way for an ice cream at Berthillon, go to Lamarck-Caumartin and climb to Montmartre from there, stop at a random bar in Saint-Georges, go to Pigalle at night and enter a random sex shop, go the the Quai Saint-Bernard on a friday or saturday night, go to the Invalides and walk to Le Bon Marché to see where the rich do their groceries, walk in bois de Vincennes, visit the Cimetière du père Lachaise, or just walk at random in single digits arrondissement and look up at random buildings with a nice architecture.
Paris has to be the biggest most disappointing shithole I ever went to. You quickly find out why Paris syndrome is a thing.
>Paris syndrome
Yea. We just started our 2 year stay abroad and so far Paris has been an ice cold, windy, rainy, hellscape of gray skies and shitskins as far as the eye can see. I feel like we saw everything worth seeing in the first week and we still have 100 more weeks left. I'm genuinely shocked no one ever mentions how shitty the weather is here.
I went in August and the weather was good. I stayed a week and agree, most things were seen explored within 3-4 days. I enjoyed meeting people tho and everynight enjoyed wine and explored.
Is there anything worth doing in this entire part of Paris besides the catacombs? What is this area for?
The area above Montparnasse, where the Luxembourg park is, is the only worthwhile neighborhood to see. One of the wealthiest areas of Paris, but not the bling type of richfags.
15th is absolutely devoid of anything interesting.
I think I have never been to the 14th except for once.
13th has Chinatown (more like SEAtown) and has the National Library, and nothing else, everything is brand new and ugly over there.
The only thing that can be a little interesting is Porte de Vanves flea market on Saturday and Sunday morning. Excellent for vintage and antique hunting.
People from horrible violent shitholes usually enjoy Paris.
Worst case is that you get stolen and beaten, few chances of getting killed.
You can enjoy food and buildings, parks...
Can be expensive but very few chances of getting scammed in a bar or stuffs like this.
Don't let usual lowlifes and drug addicts approach you.
recommend good cheap restaurants please
if its possible to eat there for under 25€ for 2 at the absolute most i want to know
only interested in french food
Yeah you can get yourself 2 nice sandwiches.
Paris is one of the most expensive city in the world, for that price you'll get 2 reheated dishes and a glass of water
>25€
>cheap
cheap would be under 15€
which is a value for which i can get crepes or sandwiches, for around 10€ in fact
just returned, did get crepes and sandwiches for around 10/under 15
restaurants it really is at best just under 50
How was your trip, did you follow any advices itt in the end?
without wine, go to bouillon chartier. it's one of the non-asian cheapest places you can get.
You can get crepes and croissants. If you want good real meals don't be cheap.
You should visit Montmarte, it is unironically the greatest part of Paris by a lot. You should also GTFO paris ASAP and see the rest of France which is far superior to its capital city.
I don't think there's going to be a Paris after today's riots lol
There's riots all the time
Riots in France are just as common and part of daily life as school shootings are in burgerland
Not joking before even visiting pol I arrived in Paris took a walk and I was like wtf are there 100 non Parisians around me like wtf is this a festival
Turns out it was just Parisians
Heh, sounds like my experience with Amsterdam
You've gotta turn into a far right /misc/ user and racially identify everyone until proven otherwise if you don't wanna get scammed/pick pocketed. Best thing to do is not get their attention and if they try to approach you, loudly tell them to fuck off.
i found it funny that the scummy ones were pretty much just the arabs and gypsies and poos
blacks you always found them being employs as security or in museums or whichever low paying and low skilled jobs there were, never arabs, despite there being 2 or 3 times more
but only old black, all over 40
young blacks were probably all in banlieues killing each other
>So i'm going for the more art/culture interest but also food.
classical, orchestral, operas :

same but sometimes have more recent contemporary shit :

what to do in general with exhibits, concerts, etc. :
https://www.sortiraparis.com/en/
french restaurants I enjoy : le septième vin, les cocottes, le petit mâchon, Au bon coin, l'Os à moelle, Philippe Excoffier, but there are many good restaurants really. just avoid the shit ones in touristic areas that serve meals <=15€ like the one in Saint michel notre Dame (Quartier Latin) or in Montmartre.
You might enjoy finding place like Jardin du Palais Royal, Galerie Vivienne, Place Vendôme, Place des Vosges, Cimetière du père Lachaise, Catacombes de Paris.
My best advice would be : rent a bike. Either at a shop, either using the «velib » which is the Paris bike service : https://www.velib-metropole.fr/en
It might be the cheapest option and safest as you don't have to bother about the bike safety, permits you to park anywhere in the city and do whatever you want whenever you want. It's the best way to visit paris if you're not afraid of riding a bike in a big city
If you want a nice place to drink a glass of wine : anywhere. A good beer : anywhere. A good cocktail : anywhere.
But there are always better districts for this :
- Le Marais : LGBT friendly places, but a lot of them aren't, I often end up there.
- Around Châtelet : Rue Montorgueil (north) ; Around Rue Saint-Honoré and Rue Berger (south).
warning : Châtelet is an animal zoo is some parts, so don't spend to much time near la fontaine des innocent where there are burger king, five guys and mcdonalds. You already know why.
- Bastille : Rue de la roquette & around. Check prices before, and there are differents style : comfy bars like Le QG or loud music clubs like the Yellow Mad Monkey.
close there is a cool bar named « le bar à mine » : cheap, good drinks, actually put alcohol in their cocktails, table football is free, people are nice. Dunno how it is for a stranger that don't talk english tho.
- Rue Mouffetard
For museums you didn't list : Musée D'Orsay, Musée de l'Orangerie.
Oh and the best advice I can give you for nowadays : BOOK EVERYTHING. There are too many tourists nowadays it's awful at this point. Getting into a museum can be a one hour wait. Check if you can book things in advance on their websites.
>wanting to go to fag infested places
why?
Cause it's a nice area to walk in with a lot of good place to eat and drink
You wrote all that even though OP said he was back from his trip
Stay toward the center of the city and you don't have to worry about as much crime, but I saw a woman get pickpocketed in a fancy retail store in the Opera galleries
Don't let people stop you on the street.
Don't stop for Roma with clipboards outside the Louvre.
The 9th Arr. has some great bars like PONI.
Don't stay in Pigalle too late, bums and drunks will bother you
Get the RATP app for navigating the metro.
Don't expect to eat between 2:30 and 7PM unless the restaurant is advertised as "SERVICE CONTINU"
Go see the Pere Lachaise Cemetery
Most of the Muslims and Africans are very nice, don't let a few bad apples ruin it. If one of them gets aggressive just get aggressive back, they'll back down
At the Charles du Gaulle airport don't get in a fake taxi, they're everywhere
I've been thinking about Paris, is it really full of muslims?
The Muslims aren't the problem, it's refugees.
