Bumping this effortpost. Where should I go if I only want to stay in one destination? how do i even get there, and during what months?

        >Where should I go if I only want to stay in one destination?
The two most popular towns (with some level of infrastructure) seem to be either Nuuk or Ilulissat, as the other poster mentioned having visited. I would give edge to Nuuk only because it seems like there's a lot of ferries that can get you to a lot of the nearby towns on the coast.
        >how do i even get there
Either via Copenhagen (Air Greenland), or Reykjavik, Iceland (Air Greenland and I think Iceland Air flies there). Might be able to jump on a small plane out of Nunavut, Canada, but it seems niche and not a lot of information online.
        >during what months?
I went in early October, and while it was snowing most days I was there (with it staying on the ground), it wasn't oppressive by any means. So I would say as late as October or maaaybe early November, if you want to avoid oppressive winter. Not sure about how early, but maybe June, July?

Visit only if you have extra monies, enjoy cold climates, and don't mind eating frozen food or seafood for every meal.
Hopefully that fits one of your questions you were brainstorming.

Fair enough. What made you choose Greenland? What were your major likes and dislikes? Do you see yourself ever going back?

          >What made you choose Greenland?
Happened to be in Copenhagen, heading back to US, and had already been to Iceland. There's a direct A320 flight on AIr Greenland from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq (ex-American WWII base), so that seemed pretty unique and cool. Greenland is also hyperniche and I don't know anyone that's been.
          >What were your major likes?
It's absolutely beautiful, both towns I visited. There's like zero tourists. The people are extremely kind and talkative. Place I've wanted to go for a long time, but haven't really had the chance until recently.
          >What were your major dislikes?
Lots of drunk natives (similar to what you'd see in Alaska and northern Canada). It is extremely expensive. Every aspect of the trip was more expensive than what I'm used to in NA/EU (planes, food, hotels, transit). The only local food is seafood, if you don't seafood, you're shit out of luck. Everything else is expensive cupboard or frozen food.
          >Do you see yourself ever going back?
Probably not, unless (future) wife or friends want to.

The fish served here: googl: Ghu7UHCxivKMh72e8
              was pretty amazing.
The only coffee shop in town was actually not bad, all things considered, and I actually met someone from Tinder here: googl: gl/maps/ 9XcKpTPEKTXpixxB7
Also, for some reason, the burger that I had on the last day served here: googl: p4HtitCEoofCGP8BA
was pretty good (although that might have just been from being fatigued from very mediocre food everywhere else.

Swiped right on a bunch of women, and got matches with all of them and I'm not a chad to say the least (though I am white, so maybe that helps?). Women seem excited about foreigners to some degree. The names are also wild (like 15 characters long)

But did you get laid? And what's the general attitude towards dating, similar to Denmark?

Tinder was purely experimental/observational (have gf back in na), I did not seek out anything besides the coffee chat I had. The overall vibe I got was that if you're a foreigner you won't have any problems getting laid if that's something you're interested in.
As far as dating, they seemed eager. I only really had one interaction, and she was excited to go out (going to a coffee shop/restaurant seemed like a rare event for them).

Specifically, early October. I'm date challenged, should have been more clear, also the tool I used to create the gifs made them brighter for some reason. The gifs are also all from Nuuk. Gif in this comment is from Kangerlussuaq, which is further north. Was snowing there.

I've been to Ilulissat and Nuuk

I agree. if you like cold desolate places and have deep pockets Greenland is exceptional.

Getting there is difficult - I ended up going Edinburgh -> Faroe Islands (!) -> Reykjavik -> Ilulissat with internal shuttle to Nuuk. This is probably why it isn't crammed with tourists.

Svalbard is another place to consider. Flights are better. Next place on the list is the Antarctic...

What are the northern lights like? I've heard the Aurora isn't really colorful irl

Aurora is normally a bit disappointing. The bright green pictures are long exposures. In real life it is usually a faint diffuse green glow. If it happens to be very strong then the entire sky comes alive and it does look like the photos you've seen. This is down to chance. If you get a strong display you'll never forget it.

      >What kind of prices did you pay for things
      >hotel
Stayed at the Hotel Hans Egede, and it was almost completely booked when I made a reservation a month out. The only available room was their nicer room starting at 2500 DKK/night (or $350/night). The cheaper "economy" room (when available, which is rare), is like 1400 DKK/night (or $200/night).

      - normal pringles can from grocery store: 80dkk ($11.50)

Did you do any SighSee stuff?

Did a ton of walking. Walked all of Kangerlussuaq in my 4 hour layover there, and walked all of Nuuk in my 2 weeks there. The Nuuk "metro" area is made up of like 3 sub-cities with a bus system connecting them. Assuming whether is permitting (it rained or snowed every other day), there are ample sidewalks and trails to go just about everywhere.
The locals seemed to frown on people leaving the city and exploring outside of the city. Maybe they're tired of tourists getting themselves in trouble or whatever.
There are also ferries that stop off at random villages that you can use to explore, though they weren't running while I was there.

What are the northern lights like? I've heard the Aurora isn't really colorful irl

Did not see it in my time in Nuuk (though there isn't much light pollution, and def far enough north, so it seems possible). Seen them numerous times in Alaska, and you're right, most of the time it's just a haze of one color, typically green, purple, yellow/orange. Very rarely do they dance like you see in timelapse videos or whatever.

Logistics. How easy was it to get there and back? What about getting around? Did you hire a local to drive you around, or is there some public transport? Was it easy to book a place to stay? How was the internet and did you shitpost on a SighSee board with flags?

Touched on in my previous posts a bit already, but:
      >logistics
      >How easy was it to get there and back?
As far as I can tel, the only way to get to Greenland is via either Keflavik, Iceland (Reykjavik's airport), or Copenhagen via Air Greenland's A330 passenger jet.
I did see one plane with a with a Canadian livery, so presumably they fly to Kangerlussuaq from somewhere in Nunavut.
      >What about getting around?
Public transit (ie busses) only exist in Nuuk it seems. Walking, biking, snowmachining, 4 wheelers, and cars are the primary forms of travel. Nuuk also had taxis, and Kangerlussuaq had a shuttle operating between the airport and town center.
      >Was it easy to book a place to stay?
My experience might be unique, but the my hotel's website wasn't working and I was forced to call and email with the hotel's front desk. The 2 or 3 other hotels seemed to operate the same. So, not terrible, but not ideal.
      >How was the internet and did you shitpost on a SighSee board with flags?
Internet was exceptional. Wifi in my room hovered around the 100-200mb mark for down, and like 75 for up. Genuinely impressed with the internet and cell service infrastructure they have there. Our Danish friends must be helping out. And yes, I did. Every niche place I go I always make time to post from >flag
