Backpack recommendations

Greetings friends,
I'm taking a two week trip later this year and am looking for a good bag that I can fit in an overhead compartment. It just needs to hold a few changes of clothes. Does anyone have any recommendations? I bought a cheap chinesium backpack from Amazon, but the way that the pockets are divided is not optimal.

Budget: under $100
Capacity: ~40L

Any input is appreciated.

Don't bother anon you're going to get the stinky morons who wear crumpled clothes. Just take your search to proper reviewing websites and see what they think for X size.

If you're staying in one place don't do it anon, just bring a proper suitcase. All backpackers become smelly animals eventually.

I disagree, even if you're only staying in one place there is no benefit to not just using a backpack. You will not become a smelly animal over a two week trip.

inb4 that guy posts the military duffel bag again

      Lmao

OP since you're not looking to spend much money the typical advice of an Osprey farpoint or Osprey Porter might be a bit more than you'd be willing to spend. But there still widely considered to be the best options, and I'm assuming you're American and they might not be THAT much more expensive, so still give the farpoint 40 a look. I'm Australian and don't know how much the bag would cost for you, only guessing it would be about $110 since it's $160 in Australia.

Or, cheap Chinesium is fine too. I have a cheap backpack from some random brand called high Sierra that works fine, it would be about 35 litres. I have a thin and malleable packing cube inside it that I can put about 5 shirts, 3 pants and other clothing in. And a towel, phone charger and other necessities in the other pockets.

But anon there is nothing better than this baby right here
      >tough as nails
      >attention grabbing from the ladies who think you're a military chad
      >TSA and security doesn't dare open it for the same reason
      >fits everything
      >easy to secure and carry
      >wards off theives who think you're a navy seal

No reason to have anything else , wheels are for women and kids.

I sprang for the Farpoint 40 in Grey. It seems like it's either been discontinued or Osprey's manufacturing really took a shit, because the only retailers that had one in stock were small outlets.

It ended up being $160, which is bloody expensive for a bag IMO but I should get a fair bit of use out of it. Couldn't find any other packs that had the clamshell type opening that were still backpack shaped. Most of the "carry-on packs" are just roller bags with shoulder straps

I cam here to make this exact recommednation. Kino bag.
        >suitcase functionality for serious travel; keeing your clothes nice
        >backpack slot
        >convenient pouch at the top
        >hand luggage on planes
        >waist strap

Downside is that it's a little bit bulky for every day carry with just a laptop, but tbh, that's first world shit. I'm using it at the moment for everything.

One of the best purchases I've ever made.

My 34L stratos got me through 9mo abroad, so I'll give a plug for that. however, it was like $60 when I bought it, $160 now. I also regular a mystery ranch 2-day assault which I love to death, but that's like $220 now

I must second the osprey bags. Got this one a few years ago for $89 and have taken to six countries so far. Great bag.

I'd love to get a recommendation for a normal sized daytrip backpack / regular every day use. It should be 45-50 cm in height and the main compartment should definitely not have a laptop compartment (small compartment is fine). That is why I haven't bought an Ospray yet; as far as I can tell they'd have fitting ones like the Arcane Day but they all come with those damn Laptop compartments.

also, having a big main compartment and a small secondary compartment is fine. Current use is pic

I have had this backpack for a couple of years now and I can really recommend it. I myself can fit two weeks clothes and other random stuff I might need in it.
    pros:
    >cheap
    >durable
    >good pockets, durable zippers, laptop sleeve, and you can even add some external attachments if that's your thing
    >good water resistance
    >meets all carry on dimension regulations
    >one year warranty
    cons:
    >may be too militaristic looking for some people (I don't care because its so practical)
    >may be too small for your needs (if you like to carry lots if things)
    >obviously while the quality is good, it's not a high-end backpack so there are better backpacks but they are way more expensive
They also have a larger version https://www.varusteleka.com/en/product/sarma-large-assault-pack/57016 if the small one is too small for you, I personally prefer the smaller one because this one is too large for some airlines, and IMO it's too big for walking around cities.

I have the far point 40.

Best bag I've ever had. Been to 30 countries and took a beating and I use it everyday now for commuting. Just get a waterproof cover for it too. Its the perfect size for carryon. If you can't fit everything you need in this, you're taking too much stuff. It came with me 3 months around the US and was the perfect size.

Update: Those morons sent me a Farview 40 (women's backpack). The shoulder straps are way too narrow and it doesn't fit right at all. This is the worst decision I ever made!

Can't you just return it and ask for Men's? Anyway it's better to buy in person so they can get the fit right for you and you can try it on. It's really your own fault. You're going to be strapped to this thing, surely you'd want to try it out before you buy?

And here I was wondering what's the difference between Men's and Women's. Thanks for that!

I am going to spend the next 9 months backpacking around the world (starting in South America, than SEA, Central Asia, Caribe...). Would that Farview 40 be a good choice for this trip? Is there enought space for like, a spare pair of shoes? I dont wanna wear my hiking boots when going out to fancy places.
