He's saying we'll all be dead in a few years because he's a lot older than you and that's what happens when you get old. You realize how short all of this is. Its so unbelievably short, and you have just no idea the scale of it until you get old.
When you're 20, it feels like everything is just continuously moving and flowing and the edges just aren't visible to you. In your 30s you start to wake up to it, and in your 40s, you realize you only have one second left. Just a blink, and you're too old to do much of anything.
He probably wakes up sore as hell now, due to the continuous traveling. He wakes up with the aches and pains of an older guy, and he is tired. Traveling is a young man's game. He knows he'll be dead tomorrow. He's just reiterating "eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die".
