Belize

Hey SighSee I wanna go to Belize with a friend to get scuba certified. How are things over there? Is it safe, are expenses cheap? Hows the transportation, the food, and any nightlife worth checking out?

Mexico or find a cheap place in the US. Belize is a true shithole and as others have said it’s awesome to dive there once you have your cert.

first of all, where do you live? if a large body of water exists near you, chances are there is someone who can offer scuba cert. Like there's scuba in Arizona.

Honestly do it somewhere that isn't a sketchy 3rd world shithole. Wait until you know what red flags are as far as dive operators before diving sketchy 3rd world shitholes, which are actually much more fun when you have the knowledge and gear to organize the trip yourself, rent tanks, and hire some random fisherman to take you to a some offshore island reef.

Did mine in Santa Marta Colombia and had my respirator and the backup break on me and had to use my instructor's. It wasn't even any cheaper.

If you are going to San Pedro hit up Rudy and his boys. They are top notch people and divers - https://belizeislanddivers.com/

I wasn't very impressed with Belize but the snorkeling and diving are top notch. Beaches there aren't very good and the food is average at best. Locals try to finesse people out of their money but some of them are stand up and genuine people.

I don't understand the hate for Belize. True the capital city is a godforsaken shithole, and I say that having been to cities in some of the poorest countries in Africa, with which Belize City is on par.
Other than San Ignacio, I guess most towns are either tourist traps or generally shitty (unless you get into Mennonite country; weird, weird experience). What Belize does have is pristine nature, and a lot of it. There are still unexplored Mayan ruins sitting in old-growth rainforest. And the best coral reef in the western hemisphere. And cursed caves full of skeletons and bats. I plan to keep going back until I get bored.

are you planning on starting a local company and exporting from bz through the company? in that case https://bccar.bz/services/ is a start if you want to start one in bz. for the particulars of exporting logwood from bz to outside is indeed red tape
