My bank has recalled all of them, Amex has officially discontinued the product several years ago.

Never understood the use for them. What sort of moron can't handle credit cards or cash?

They are nice to pay escorts with. I give them a full check, sign it, tell them to go cash it. Then call the bank and claim that check was stolen. That way I just get it for free.

    >Size of backpack
The ultra minimalists have got it wrong. I'd rather have something like a 40L 3/4 full than be stuffing everything in to something 30L and bursting the zips. The dimensions are more important. You want something no wider than your body and as shallow to you back as you can - that way anything you can fit through, so can the bag without even thinking about it.

    >snacks
Hard candy, skittles, worthers originals, Jolly ranchers etc. Useful for a bit of sugar when you're tired, lightweight, don't really melt in the heat.

    >travelers checks?
What. Get two zero fx fee preload cards (resolute, wise) one MasterCard, one Visa ideally that you can quickly reload from your bank transfer practically instantly. Keep about the equivalent of $50 usd in local currency in the smallest bill possible (even if that means lots of ones/fives). Use coins quickly so they don't pile up.

    >transferwise?
Yes. Good service, there are also many equivalent options offering about the same.

    >mode of travel: car, bus, train, plane
    Train > plane > bus > car.

do you guys really travel with just a backpack? when you go to a nice restaurant or wienertail bar, are you really wearing a tshirt and sneakers? i do not understand the aversion to a simple checked bag or roller bag carry on. yes, it is less convenient for the 2 hours at the beginning and end of a trip, but you get to dress respectably the entire time and not wash underwear every 3 days.

      >do you guys really travel with just a backpack?
Yes, but only because everything I need happens to fit in there. I might bring a small suitcase next time, because I plan on doing more shopping than usual.

      >when you go to a nice restaurant or wienertail bar, are you really wearing a tshirt and sneakers?
T-shirt yes, sneakers no. I wear a tight, plain black t-shirt with no graphics/designs on it. As for footwear, I wear Chelsea boots. It's not the fanciest look, but it's acceptable enough to wear in restaurants and night clubs.

      >not wash underwear every 3 days
I can fit 7 days of clothes in my bag, so I only have to do laundry once a week, which is how often I normally do laundry at home.

You can easily carry a nicer pair of shoes and some dress shirts in a backpack
