Bigger islands are full of resorts, but theres also less touristic parts so make your mind are you gonna stay on tourist area or book guest house less touristic part of island. Well then you gotta choose which island you goin to stay at. Tenerife has famous teide volcano, its popular for hiking. Both tenerife and gran canaria has also big cities and night life if you into that. You are surrounded by ocean so obviously sailing, scuba diving are big thing there. I think there was even opportunities for surfing especially in lanzarote.

I'm in Tenerife right now. A shit-ton of obese elderly people, but the weather is absolutely perfect. Even though it's been partly cloudy for the last week, it's great. But frick, it's almost a pussy desert. Tatted up fatties everywhere. I'd say roughly 10% of the women are kinda frickable - mostly 6s and 7s who walk around like they're princesses. I've been here a month and the only 8s I've seen are Spanish and teen daughters of the beefy tourists. Not one goddamn 9. I guess they're all at university or waiting until Spring... And then there are the African Africans (I like you, give you half price, where you from) trying to sell everyone shit every 2 minutes. But frick it - you can't beat the weather anywhere this side of the Atlantic.

Stayed in Chirche Tenerife, small village in the hills on the west of the islands. Beautiful place, drive to masca was stunning as was Mount Tiede. Weed cafes easy to find and cheap. 18-25°c in January pretty pleasant. Rent a car and avoid the main towns and you'll love the place, otherwise it's just old fat Brits abroad

The drive from San Cristobal to Puerto de las America in Tenerife is one of the best driving roads in the world.

The views as you ascend through the forests to the dessert landscape at the base of El Tiede is insane. The brakes in all the rental cars are cooked to frick because it requires serious braking stresses coming back down to sea level.

Parque Siam is a GOAT water park too

Went to Tenerife twice. Once up north, the other time down south. Both times for hiking. Cheap and tasty seafood and fruits were great. Nature and weather is beautiful as you said.
Driving on their narrow mountain roads can be nerve-wracking. Get a car with full insurance.
Most beaches are small and rocky but I don't care for beaches anyway.
In some places you get the typical British and German drinking tourists.

Is there a side you prefer more? I'm thinking of going to North side Tenerife in the spring for hiking and visiting wineries and curious if it's worthwhile for someone who's never been to Spain in general much less the associated islands.

I liked the northeast better because it was greener and more variable in vegetation. Teide National Park is worth it regardless of which side you stay. Try to get a permit for the peak.
South is more barren think like succulents, cactus and strubs. Hiking up a 500m cliff in full sunlight at 30°C is not fun.

I've only been to Lanzarote but I absolutely loved it. Beautiful beaches, but the interior is even cooler. Parque Nacional de Timanfaya is cool as shit and absolutely worth, basically there was a giant eruption in the 1700s that buried multiple villages and covered the entire interior of the island with lava. Very very cool. Lots of art by a guy named Cesar Manrique, really cool houses and a cactus park. Unique wine region as the volcanic soil has special properties, very much worth visiting a winery and seeing how they do it - basically they grow grapes with a wall of pumice stone behind them which siphon the moisture out of the wind, since it's so dry there. The entire island is basically a giant desert covered in lava.

All that to say it's very cool, one of the most unique places I've ever been, kinda like a Spanish Hawaii. I haven't been to any of the other islands so can't compare but I would absolutely go back to las Canarias to see how they compare to Lanzarote. It's a very unique place with a lot of cool cultural stuff and history. Honestly could be its own country, it's that different from the mainland.

I've been to La Palma and Gran Canaria. The latter was just a resort deal so not much to say about it, but La Palma was fantastic. Lots of cool walking trails - unique laurel forests, the view from the Roque de los Muchachos, mysterious Guanche carvings. The weather was great at the coast, and nice and cool up in the mountains. Lots of interesting fruit that are either expensive, low-quality or simply unavailable back home. I would recommend it, make sure you get a car though and that you are happy to drive on sketchy mountain roads.

I've spent the last two months in Tenerife at Playa de las Americas, the area around the Hard Rock Cafe. The winter weather is absolutely the best thing about this place. I don't recommend Las Americas, tho. It's the easiest place to reach from the mainlands and it gets a lot of cruise ship tier weekenders. It's okay if easy is your thing and you don't mind karaoke until 3am where everyone sings along, morbid obesity everywhere, polluted sand (can't see it until you add water), and just a dull vibe until the booze kicks in during a football match - then they go insane.

I'm definitely coming back next winter, just for the weather. But I'm going to Fuerteventura - better beaches and not as easy to get to for the landwhales and weekend warriors.

Today - the weather is perfect, no humidity and 75f. It's been like this almost every day.

Worst of all, except you like british redneck style tourists. Been there many times for ferry to other islands. Sometimes i just tripped around Gomera, La Palma Hierro aso. All so beautiful. But if you want to party just stay or do both.

The northern part of Tenerife has better climate and vegetation. Southern part is dry and ugly, the nature looks like a construction site and it’s basically all huge resorts, while the north has real cities and fewer tourists (still lots of them, but it doesn’t feel like a resort).
The weather is perfect and the nature is beautiful, I really can’t find anything negative to say about the green parts of the Canary Islands.

They have no economy. Even on the mainland, youth unemployment is like 20%. Imagine how it is on some shit-stained rocks in the middle of nowhere. You could get a place in Madrid or Barcelona for less, so all the young people do exactly that for work or school.

At the end of the day, rental prices are determined by what the people living there can actually afford.
