The basilicas are the best part of Italy, I’ve never had to wait two hours to get into any of them, you can literally just walk in for free to most of them. Only one I paid to enter was the Vatican + Museums and one of the basilicas in Venice. OP you are dumb and gay. None of them require specific times anyways besides the Vatican.

why wouldn't refuges just sleep in them? is the church allowed to kick out poor people?

They close their doors at certain times you fricking moron. Usually around 6pm or so. Also there’s nuns and priests walking around who would probably help them find shelter instead of loiter at the church. I’ve seen one beggar outside of a basilica so far

I’m literally in Italy right now. None of the basilicas are like that. The coliseum, Vatican, and the Parthenon are the only places I’ve been that expected me to come at a certain time. None of the basilicas did, they’ve almosr all been free even the major ones. The only one that required a ticket was one in Venice.

Prague too. You couldn't piss in the street in Prague without someone extracting a fee for it.
    >Go to museum of fine art
    >12 Euro for entry, okay that's not too bad
    >Finish exploring 1st floor, try to go up to 2nd
    >Sir you need to buy a ticket
    >Show ticket
    >Sir, that ticket is for this floor only. To go upstairs you need to buy another ticket

Pisa was the most outrageous of all for me. it's like 20 euros to visit the church and the other buildings in the "miracle field" area, then it's like 30 more just for the tower to climb inside. Frick that. I paid €2 for the walls walk instead and saw most of the city center from above anyway

most historic cathedrals in the uk have an entrance fee as well. in many, it is supposedly voluntary, but usually you can't get through the doors without paying up. however, the fee is waived if you are attending a service at the cathedral (since most of them are still functioning churches). so you can just slip in unnoticed at service times and wander around. of course god will still see, and you will go to hell
