Clubbing

I'm going to be in Munich in a few days and am looking for things to do in the city. Apparently there are some popular night clubs so I figure I should check them out. I've only been clubbing twice back home and didnt really enjoy it but I'm trying to force myself into uncomfortable situations while I'm abroad. Anyway, does anyone with clubbing experience know what the standards are regarding the dress code? Will people call me gay if I wear discrete ear plugs? How fetishy is the ordeal?

Feel free to discuss other clubbing and night life related topics.

You sound young so I'll give you advice.
Putting yourself in uncomfortable situations is good but forcing yourself to go clubbing when you don't like it is stupid.
What kind of music do you like? If there's anything electronic then try and find a club night that plays that, just going to a generic club night for the sake of it will be shit especially if you're by yourself.
No one wears ear plugs so you'll look even weirder.
Unless you go to a fetish club it won't be "fetishy"
tl;dr don't bother, going out of your comfort zone means speaking to people you ordinarily wouldn't or trying food you don't know, it doesn't mean doing stuff that you dislike in a different country - turns out you'll just have a shit time

Thanks for the advice. Maybe its just not my thing, I am more into rock and metal so I might try to find some local gigs instead. I don't do very well on Tinder etc.. So I figured that clubs might help me meet some friends/women but I agree that I'll probably come off weird.

I do and have gone clubbing solo but only on nights with music that I like so if you're just there trying to meet women it'll be obvious.
Munich is an awesome place with a great drinking culture, as I said in my last message you don't need to do shit that you don't like just to meet people.
If you're into rock music I'm sure there will be gigs you can go to, depending on time of year they have a massive rock festival called rock am park close by which is great.
If you want to meet people just stay in a hostel and hang out in the communal areas and talk to women there, you can then ask them to go out and it's alot more organic than trying to pull at a German club. Just check on somewhere like hostel world and pick the ones with the best atmosphere ratings and highest rated, it's pretty easy, if you've got a bit of money then get your own room there - easiest time ever. Bon chance

I know this is a moron question, but how do you actually meet people at a club? I've gone maybe 5 times in my life, but it's always been with friends or a girl I was dating, and the music was so loud it would be real awkward to talk try to talk to someone you don't know

          1. Be attractive
          2. Be tall
          3. Make eye contact and dance close
          4. Start making out
          5. Take them home and frick (this step rarely works various reasons).
          6. If you fail at steps 1 and 2, and you don’t like drugs, don’t bother going clubbing.

I am a balding manlet and I have managed to pull some chicks from clubs. Definitely not an ideal place though but European chicks are way more open and loose imo than american ones

In my experience, I dress well. I look at models in pinterest then buy things I like from there. Also going with a small friend group will give you a big up. Then you will see people joining in and out of your friend circle. Make eye contact and see if they respond in an accepting way. If they don't, just turn the other way and keep dancing. You should be able to handle the rest if you know your way around women. If not, then you'll never get success.

Clubbing and rock are very different cultures. Just go to shows.

wtf are you on. europe has tons of rock and metal clubs. northern europe especially, but you'll find the token rock bar in every town basically, with club nights and all.
          see also

If you are into rock, you're better off hitting rock and metal bars. Good way to meet people while listening to music you actually like. A simple google maps search shows that Munich has that covered.

yeah, the drugs taken are different, so in rock and metal environments it's mostly gonna be alcohol consumed, maybe some joints or whatever. the music is different, but that's about it.
in bigger cities you even have clubs where it's techno and house in one room, and metal and doom in another room... it's fun.

          ultimately i strongly agree with

. seriously, if you don't feel like it, you don't have to do it. if you are curious, cause you want to see how others are in different countries when they go to clubs... do it, but then i recommend arriving wayy later than the announced start time of the event that night. at least 2 hours later, maybe even more. by that time people get drunk or high or just get into the party mood their own way, and you won't have to be there during the moment when everyone is just looking at each other, trying to read the mood.

If you’re a metal head then you should know the dance music they play in clubs is usually way heavier than the shit you hear on adverts or the radio. You might even like it.

Realistically you’re probably going to hate it and will be better off seeing whichever Scandinavian black metal band is playing instead. I can only enjoy dance clubs in certain conditions and you don’t have the connections to make that happen.

great advice, although i must say that going clubbing can be pretty great. i guess it all depends on the vibe and the people, but in general i'd advise anyone to go to a clubbing night (or a rave) once in their lives.

it's a hit or miss thing, but if it hits, it'll hit you hard.

i'd advise op to look into clubbing nights anyway. if you're into rock and metal, you'd probably want to try a industrial/techno gig. if you're tolerant of drunk and fricked up people, and you can get yourself to enjoy music out of your comfort zone, you can sure as hell try it.

just keep in mind you can completely hate it. in that case, just leave and go to a rock bar or smt. if you're curious, just try, i guess.

no specific tips on Munich btw, but the three times i've been there, i had a great time

      godspeed op

      wise.
i’d add only to the part about comfort zone. we have a society that beats itself up too much while not being very happy with small steps. you can go from a completw agoraphobic to a clubbing maniac through 1000 slow steps over a few years. compare current self to past self and take very, very slow steps outside your zone. when you look back, you will actualy not remeber you ever had comfort zones at all. truly
