Does anyone have experience with MSC cruises?
I'm taking a cruise with them in a month that goes along the coast of Italy/France/Spain. Definitely not a cruise newbie in general but I've never taken a cruise with MSC.
Never have, but I've heard it's a Tower of Babel with a dozen languages being spoken by the crew and guests.
Very True. I did a France/Spain/Portugal/Italy and nearly everything was labeled in 11 different languages.
I like them, less party feeling than Carnival, but in a good way.
I hate these. The carribean is my least favorite region of the world
Just got off one two weeks ago to the same region. Cruises aren't my thing, and I only went on this one because it was free, so I don't have anything to really compare it to aside from one childhood vacation. That said, it seemed fine. Like the first anon said, you'll hear tons of languages, but the staff was friendly, and the dinners were pretty good. The breakfast/lunch buffet was mediocre but tolerable. I'd be willing to travel with them again if not for the fact that I just don't like being trapped on a timeframe to get back on a boat.

Cruises are a good way to reach certain spots. Greenland and other remote islands like the falklands are prime examples. You can fly there but a boat is better.
You will find most of the other passengers are 60+ and spend most of their day eating the canteen slop. This is why I’m not going on another until I’m very old.
Yea I wouldn't do a cruise for something that was easy and cheap to do via plane or rail. But Greenland, Alaskan coast, certain Caribbean islands, and so on are great for cruises.
Honestly the old people don't bother me that much.

Looking at doing a Christmas Market mini-cruise this year. Seems you can only do it on smaller ships though.
Smaller ships are better, for me. Less tacky, less crowded.
Gambler here. Holland America's player's club offered me a free interior room on any Alaska, Mexico, Caribbean, Coastal, and Canada/New England sailing. Which would you take? I really wanted Hawaii/Tahiti but no such luck
I'm actually looking at their New England + Canada cruises right now. Never taken a Holland America cruise myself but it looks like a fun itinerary.
If it was me, I'd do Alaska or Caribbean, maybe Mexico. But that's just based on which areas interest me.
One thing I'd check is what sort of capacity the ships are running at, if you can get that info. A less crowded ship would be better, whatever the route.
I liked a cruise my extended family did to Alaska years ago. It's a nice way to see the scenery, watch whales spouting, and just relax. And for traveling with an extended family from 6-80 years old, it's travel that avoids all the cat-herding that comes from trying to travel with that group. Don't have to argue about where/when to eat, or try to get everybody to the train station on time, or any of that.
It is definitely more of a vacation than anything resembling "Real Travel" (tm), but it has its points.
Good point that’s the biggest hurdle usually is getting everyone in your group together on a cruise you can just fuck off
I am planning a cruise for November this year, lesser Antilles, first time for me and first time across the ocean. Looks like Carnival is my best bet, people recommended RC but the only boat that goes there at that time is their oldest one and that just sounds like a bad time.

Remember that going on a cruise is just you seeking an escape from your current life and trying to live a fantasy. Which you ironically have to go back to your real, torturous, life.
Instead, I suggest you seek to make your life just as fulfilling as whatever you get out of these cruises.
Then you can actually travel with purpose, instead of indulgence, like enjoying culture, cuisine, or whatever the fuck else you want that is real.
Break out of your cyclical cycle. Get more out of life and save money.

Cruises are great for a young single guy if old wine aunts are your jam. Up until a few years ago they had link related cruises specifically tailored for that.
Keep hearing people say shit like

I think the last two are memes. I've always done balcony cabins that are high up and have had one in the aft, mid, and forward, it's all the same shit as far as "motion sickness" goes. You're going to feel you're on a boat, yes.
The first three are real tbqh. Being under the main dining/buffet rooms is a mistake because you WILL hear clangs and bumps. Being on a megaship means more people which means more elevator traffic and is also a bad idea. I think the most silent cabin I had was in the very front of the ship. Downside is you're obviously further from everything but good opportunity to stretch your legs.
You definitely have to pick your poison when you choose a cabin. You're either going to deal with more noise but be closer to everything, or get some more peace but walk more to everything.

Thinking of buying my own sailboat and just traveling around on that. Comes with its own personal room and kitchen, plus can go where ever I want. Way cheaper than a cruise too. Convince me not to.

Never cared much for the idea of a cruise unless it had a theme, like visiting Roman ruins like Pompeii and others around the Mediterranean Sea. That I might do.
Did 2 cruises in the early 2000s. One on NCL and the other on Princess. I enjoyed both. No issues other than getting sunburnt. Food was good, passengers were fine (lots of Europeans and they were older). Want to travel more since kids are grown.
Cruises are fine if you're doing very particular ones. A Greenland cruise is an example of that. For the most part, the rest just aren't worth it because you're better off just spending the money at a beach resort or the country itself if it's a river cruise.
I enjoy the AIDA cruise. I do a cruise holiday at least once a year. Costs for two people between 1000 and 1500€ for one week all-inclusive. Can see lots of different places, often around 4 countries in one trip. And no need to search for hotels, care about how to get there, etc. it's just so easy and relaxing. And sitting on the private balcony, smelling the ocean air.
Only downside for me is that 80% of the guests are 50+ years old.
I hate cruises due to not being a 70 year old woman but has anyone gone from argentina to antarctica? I'm doing south america this year and i was thinking of trying to get all the way to the bottom
Going to see 70000 Tons of Metal next year with a friend and we likely have a third one, now we just need a fourth lad to fill out the cabin. Pretty stoked already.
