1 month e-visa now and not sure when they will change it back if ever.
If they dropped all covid requirements why not put it back to 3 months?

I'm not talking about the e-visa though. What about the visa on arrival?

You mean when the plane lands and just getting a stamp? I dont think they ever did that before.

No, that's known as "Visa-Exempt". "Visa-on-Arrival" is usually used by poo's and Chinese and other shitty, but wealthy, countries that allows them to apply and get approved for a visa quickly and relatively hassle free at the country's airport right after the plane lands and just before they pass through customs. They have to fill out some forms and paper work and stuff in the customs area. I don't think Americans and other Western countries do visa-on-arrival for Vietnam.

They won't let Americans do it? why would they want poos in there for 3 months come on Vietnam

I never said poos get three months in Vietnam nor did I imply that Visa-On-Arrival was for three months nor could be extended for three months. I was just clarifying that Visa-On-Arrival is not the same thing as showing up to an airport willy-nilly and getting your passport stamped. I will say I do remember pre-COVID that the three month Vietnam tourist visa was available to be applied for before your trip (as opposed to the 30 day tourist visa), but obviously that is no longer the case at the moment.

                >nor did I imply that Visa-On-Arrival was for three months nor could be extended for three months
But it is though. E-visas are 30 days max.

I've found nothing that says the 30 day time limits are for evisas only. At the moment, they appear to for all visas. Back before COVID you could extend your evisa for up to 90 days, so it has nothing to do with whether you got your visa or online not, and everything to do with the government just being a tight-assed piece of shit and not being very welcoming to tourists, no matter which visa they hold.

Sites like these offer 3 month visas on arrival:

                Is it just false advertising?

It don't think it has to be. From what I've read, you can do it through a third party.

There's so many fricking fake scam websites for Vietnam visas it's insane. When you needed a pre approval letter for a visa on arrival, I used Vietnam visa pro way back in the day. But everything's a gamble because of how many viets are filthy scammers.

More so visa reciprocation, most likely. You know who is the only country that gets visa exempt status for 90 days in Vietnam? Guess? Wait for it, wait for it... Chile. Yes, Chile. Why? Most likely visa reciprocation. Vietnam and the US are actually on quite good terms these days, and when I was there pre-COVID I would tell people I'm from the US and would receive a warm welcome, no bad blood. Maybe if you talk to 70 year Vietnamese boomers there might be some resentment still, but the younger generations do not give a frick. If anything, the war they had with China shortly following the war with the US, is more fresh on their minds and they still have a seething hatred of Chinese to this day.

Vietnam only has a one month visa for tourism. Anything else is a scam.
The government has done this as part of a crackdown on digital nomads and illegal english teachers.
Thank them for ruining it for the rest of us.

It was Russian, Chinese and African mafia/scammers. Some of the worst offending nationalities weren’t affected by the visa rule change, but the grassroots nationalist opposition that sprang up in response to violent and thieving foreigners was enough to make the government overhaul the visa system. There were other political problems and this was a problem the media was allowed to spotlight because the government had an easy fix for it. They were talking about this since 2018 and it might not have been passed if it wasn’t for the 2020 pandemic when tourism didn’t matter at the moment.
In other words, it had nothing to do with the little villains you saw in the same restaurants and bars you went to (and who still live rent free in your head). It was the usual suspects - third worlders and an incompetent government.

That's an interesting story but it's difficult to explain away the wave of surprise inspections at english schools that happened at the same time.

      >Holders of a visa letter issued and stamped in Hanoi or Da Nang or Ho Chi Minh city by the Vietnamese Immigration Department within the Ministry of Public Security or the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can obtain a visa for a maximum stay of 1 or 3 months at airports in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Hai Phong, Da Lat or Nha Trang.[1]
      Explain this then.

What's the point if you're not going to check the original source? The Gulf Air page cited there doesn't say anything about a 3 month visa, so the wiki has stale information.
That aside, none of those government entities are issuing a 3 month letter. If an agency somehow does and you show up with that letter, you'll get a 1 month visa in your passport when you arrive at HAN or SGN.
The only way to stay longer than a month in Vietnam is by doing border runs to Cambodia and back. There's no cooldown period so you can cross and come back immediately.

wouldnt you need to stay in Cambodia for 3 days while getting a new e visa?
