Worse than that they are everywhere.
      >Where to go on Vancouver Island, I want to spend 1 week there too.
Stay there the three weeks instead you will enjoy it more. Château Craigdarroch is cool but I don’t think it’s impressive for a european. Honestly just the ferry throughout all the gulf islands you will enjoy it tenfold times more than Shitcouver.

These are good but nothing really that’s special I thought the existed everywhere.

        The Vancouver scenic experience
        >walk around false creek seeing dilapidated sailboats overflowing with garbage on them
        >see shady homeless people constantly that harass you for gibs
        >be surrounded by obnoxious brown people wherever you go
        >Enjoy the nightlife of everything closing at 8
Op do yourself a favour and visit these and Vancouver island for two weeks honestly more worth your time. If you’re dying to see Vancouver do it for a week. Two weeks in this shithole is too long.

Didn't expect the hate, anon. Which city worldwide would you consider instead? Serious question.

Vancouverite here. It's not just the DTES that's a drug-infested shithole, it's the entire fricking city. Crackheads and hobos everywhere. Most are not aggressive but generally just ignore them. The vast majority are Natives who all they do it collect welfare and spend it on booze and drugs. That said, DTES is still worth a visit because it's a slice of reality of the mental health/drug problem rampant in this city.

Definitely see Commercial Drive, Granville Island, Canada Place, Metrotown, Capilano Bridge, or get a car and go north to the real outdoors.

Vancouver Island would be nice with a car as it has nice scenery, but forget about nightlife. It's a retirement place where old people go and die.

is this work or just vacation?
vancouver is not very interesting, like 3 days, not 3 weeks
your picture already has half the stuff to do, walkaround the seawall, maybe go take the gondola on grouse mountain in the background
other than montreal most canadian cities are pretty boring and expensive, the only reason to travel to canada is for the nature
I'd try to get out of the city more, at least go to the okanagan, if not the rockies

you can take the train from vancouver to jasper, and then from jasper take another one to prince rupert, where you can take a ferry down to vancouver island
it gets kinda tricky with bus schedules and they don't advertise it, but you can end up taking municipal buses all the way from kelowna to sparwood if you time it right and spend a night in 1 or 2 towns

      Thanks anon.
I put Squamish and Whistler to the list and see if I can extend my stay on the Island.

Make sure to do the Sea to Summit gondola in Squamish (Not the same as grouse mt!). It is touristy but well worth it for the views of the fjord. Check out Shannon Falls and the Britannia Mine Museum. Stawamus Chief is a good intermediate hike if you do peaks 2 and 3 and is an easy hike if you do peak 1 only. It can be a bit crowded but not as crowded as the trails in North Vancouver. Squamish also has world class rock climbing. Check out Garibaldi Lake, if you are going later in the summer it is worth hiking up to the Black Tusk, it is a unique view but a pretty strenuous hike. I would rent a mountain bike and try the trails at Alice Lake, there are easy, intermediate, and beginner trails. Whistler has an amazing downhill mountain biking park but it is a bit pricey (you get a chairlift for your bike though!)

Grew up in Squamish, I didn't think I'd ever see it mentioned anywhere, but I absolutely agree with the Alice Lake suggestion here. If you can rent a bike and get in there, you'll have an amazing time riding around through some beautiful BC forest.

Chinese anon here. Moved to New York 3 weeks ago. Before that I spent 25 years in Vancouver.

For Europeans, Vancouver by itself doesn't have much to offer other than scenic areas. Buildings that are >80 years old are considered antiquated. There aren't much cultural or famous landmarks here to justify staying 3 weeks. Even if you want to experience the wilderness in interior BC or Vancouver Island, I think Europe has areas that are equally as impressive.

Having said that, imo there are 2 major things you can do

    - Hike in wildness
    - Asian food in Richmond (a suburb next to Vancouver.)

I will assume you have already done the touristy stuff like
    - Gastown (a drug infested hellhole deep in DTES. So bad it's actually worth a visit.)
    - Chinatown (opposite side of DTES from Gastown. Also a hellhole.)
    - Stanley Park (rent a bike or rollerblade and ride around the park.)
    - Continue on from Stanley Park and move on to Third Beach, Second Beach, and First Beach. Then go around False Creek, visit Granville Island along the way, Kitsilano Beach, and finally Spanish Bay beach.
    - Rent a boat and go around the Burrard Inlet
    - Capilano Suspension Bridge
    - Visit Whistler and Squamish

Now here is my recommended itinerary for the less travelled places
    - Hike. https://www.explore-mag.com/20-of-the-Best-Hiking-Trails-near-Vancouver . If you don't like hiking why are you in Vancouver?
    - University of British Columbia. Visit the Rose Garden and the Museum of Anthropology. Go down to the nudist Wreck Beach too if you have time.
    - Capilano Salmon Hatchery. Might not be in season right now.
    - Grouse Mountain (the cable car costs money so it might not worth it.)
    - Crescent Beack in White Rock. If you like it you can go to Boundary Bay Dyke.

Word limit. Will continue if I remember.

      Anonymous

      - If you don't want to pay for the cable car to Grouse Mountain, Grouse Grind is free.
      - Capilano Suspension Bridge is over $50. Lynn Valley Park if free. It even has a suspension bridge and a drop pool where you can jump off a cliff and into a river. Take a photo of the warning sign describing how many idiots died this way. Go again after a major rainstorm.
      - Peace Arch Park, just so you can say you crossed into US and back to Canada in 5 seconds.
      - Iona Beach Regional Park
      - Cultus/Chiliwack/Alouette/Buntzen Lake . They all look the same.
      - Horseshoe Bay
      - Richmond Night Market. Once is enough. Overpriced food stall and too many people.

Now onto Asian food. Before I came to NY Americans I know were raving how good the Asian food in NY are. Baloney. Vancouver's have them beaten by a mile.

      - Japanese Ramen. They are as good as they can get without going to Japan. Many older ramen places in Vancouver and Richmond are manned by real Japanese. My favourite are Kintaro and Gmen. Their prices are reasonable and the ramen is more of the traditional kind. Or just search on Google Map.
      - Sushi. If you are a huge eater, you can look for a all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant. They are always run by Chinese and frankly they are going extinct (the restaurants). If you are want a more hip experience, Miku and Guu are well established. If you want a real Japanese chef over the counter experience, then Sushi Hachi will break your wallet.

        - Chinese dim sum. Many of Hong Kong's best chef immigrated to Vancouver. It used to be a joke in the dim sum industry (family tie) that Vancouver dim sum are better than Hong Kong dim sum. The restaurants are mostly in Richmond (the ones in Vancouver are good...if you are a filthy Westerner with no taste). The dim sum places in Richmond are divided between older traditional HK style, and the newer mainland China very fancy style. The mainlanders are rich, and they are running the restaurants as immigration businesses, so they are not afraid to spend money on the place and the chef. Both are good but I prefer the HK style. Just to throw out some names -

        Empire Seafood Restaurant(Richmond)
        Kirin Seafood Restaurant (Richmond)
        Shi-Art Chinese Cuisine
        The Deluxe Chinese Restaurant
        Blossom Seafood Restaurant

        - Shanghai food, Spicy chinese food etc. Too many to list
        - Hong Kong Style cafe. Try the fried chicken wings and Hong Kong style milktea (not bubble tea).
        - For Korean food, you will have to go all the way to North Road at Coquitlam to get the good stuff. Better food than Koreantown at NYC.

        Ask me for any recommendations.

Toronto isn't that bad if you stick downtown (i.e. the area from Yorkville south to Queen's Quay) - lots of nice bars / restaurants, white people, and expensive buildings. Also great city to play impromptu hockey/shinney in during winter - you can just go for free to any community skating rink

    I live in vancouver

if you like Chink food then you will be happy

lots of good sushi and korean BBQ. Chink food sucks though.

    for tourist stuff

    - rent bike and go across all of stanely park. Bike rentall is like $ 7 /hour x2 hours
    - capalano bridge is like 60 bucks ( one time thing) o r you can go to the free Lynn Canynon bridge

    - Deep cove, do the 1 hour hike (avoid Peak times because it gets crowded somtimes)

    - if you like MJ or mushrooms they are everywhere

    - downtown doesnt really have good resteaurants honestly stick to outside the downtown core example burnanby or main street or richmond if you lilke chink food

    - if you like massage parlors there are more of them than tim hortans in the city.

    - lots of good Vegan restaurants as well.

    - the junkies have taken over all of downtown btw

    - Canada place is nice to walk around along w/ coal harbour.

    - gas town use to be good place to chill but know its just junkies.

    - whistler is 1 hour drive away

Skip the city except for food. Get out and into nature.

Most of the city is 'over'. It must have been pretty awesome before the HongKong handover in 1997. It had a brief revival in 2010 for the Whistler Olympics, but the whole city is a catch basin for the drainage of the entire country's drug and mental health problems.

Honeslty when it comes to actually living in a country i agree with living as rurally as possible but for just a general tourist holiday the cities are usually the cheapest and have the most stuff to do. Not only that but if you stick to the main tourist routes you should be mostly with white people and some asians. I wouldn't go Vancouver though as that place is just a shithole in general from what i hear.

I think they ride CN rail until they hit the station at Terminal and from there its a quick stroll to main and hastings. Everything you need is in a few miles radius: soup kitchen, injection site, booze store, places to beg. Ive actually thought about dressing ruffled and going out and begging to make some spare moolah for beer.
