    Venice
I knew beforehand that the great majority of the population of Venice actually lived on 'Terrafirma' so I expected the historical city-on-the-lagoon to be essentially vestigial, a few blocks, and not a lively, inhabited place. But I was surprised, yeah there were tons of tourists, and a bunch of Blacks selling cheap Chinese trinkets by the tourist boat dock. Nonetheless, a cool place. There was a bar selling a glass of the house wine for 1 euro a pop which I was rather shocked by.

Milan is probably the best place to live in Italy. Plenty of things to do, good mix of weather and great food. Everything from south is there anyways since they've been immigrating since 1950's. From Milan to Val Grande for example you only need a 2 hour train. Other locations in Alps are equally close. Great lakes are similar distance from there. You're not far off from some of the most beautiful cities in the north too. It's easy to visit France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Slovenia and also Croatia. It's full of young people as there's lots of unis there.

Downsides is it can be quite damp in winter and during summer it's way too hot. Plus the rents are quite high. Some areas around train stations look like shit because of illegals, but it's nowhere near as bad as it was in 2015.

I was also very pleasantly surprised by Venice; only went because it happened to be the cheapest Italian airport for us to fly to ahead of a two-month tour of other parts of Italy, and was bracing for the worst, but I was blown away by the place. Even in the worst tourist ghetto bits there are locals and authentic stuff just a few alleys away, the history is fascinating and significant, and the setting is uniquely beautiful. Would go again without hesitation.

I'm not the person you're replying to.
I went this summer and I only really noticed them near Pantheon selling shawls and around Colosseum. Most of the other sights are fairly free of them. In random streets you won't be hassled. T b h I still don't get how do you morons get hassled by them, you must either look completely harmless or like an utter normie idiot, i.e. a clueless tourist. My only advice for the big tourist attractions is to either visit off season or go very early or very late in the day. In Venice I got St. Mark's square pretty much empty except for a few carabinieri, people setting up shop and pigeons. Maybe it's because I had lived in Italy for a year (near Milan), maybe because I really hate over saturated tourist shit, but I really didn't give much of a frick about Colosseo or Pantheon. My favourite was that historical museum in whatever villa it is, near Colosseo, and the Etruscan museum which is bit off center. Food was a let down compared to Milan, IMHO there's too many touristic places that are low quality in Rome, Milan on average easily has better food because it's less of a tourist meme.

I don't get why morons pretend they are everywhere when they are present at one or two major tourist attractions, which would be unbearable anyways because of endless groups of Chinese tourists and normies taking 50 pictures of the same thing. morons on this board don't even know how to travel and just go for theme park experience and wonder why it's shit.

that's the most moronic opinion I've read in this thread - Madrid isn't even in the same league as Berlin, jeez

Berlin is an ugly shithole where it gets dark at 4pm in winter and where half the city is made up of ugly commieblocks, people are either rude as frick (locals) or entitled hipsters that don't even know German in their shitty hipster bars.

Madrid is one of the nicest cities in Europe, sunny, beautiful architecture, beautiful nature around, lively, gorgeous women, and hella cheap - it's a city of 3 million+ and yet much less touristy than Barcelona, meaning you'll always find a Spanish neighborhood where a beer is 2.50 and they give you free tapas with it....

Italy in general. I always was reluctant to go there because it just seemed like a meme and I have always fricking hated every Italian I met traveling or working. Got a cheap flight from Montana to Rome and out of Milan for 580$ so went for two weeks. Rome around the train station is basically little Africa and really dodgy, and Naples is one of the worst places I've ever been. But the rest of the country (in particular the small hilltop towns) is peak comfy, and every Italian I met wasn't a total butthole like I had expected. I guess all the shitty Italians are the ones who go abroad.

Paris because I had horrible expectations.
Lyon because I didn't expect it to be so satured with good architecture.

First time I went to Nice in 2018 I was shocked by how many immigrants there are, but when I came back last year it was like 180 and for some reason I was shocked by how many French I could see. I'm not even /misc/tard, it was just a big contrast to me from a small village in an obscure corner of the world.

Italy is insanely dense with so much beauty, easily the most beautiful country on the planet.

Their women are pretty hard t b h. Most are locked down into social circles. My ex is from there. She's good looking, very well educated in a classic lyceum (learnt Latin and Greek in HS when most morons are struggling with elementary algebra) and then got a degree from Bocconi. When I managed to seduce her at 21, I was her first, even though she admitted she went to many dates. Some were just for food. Felt a little bad considering many tried, wined and dined, but I simply had what it took to push it further. If there was a woman worth marrying, it is her. I'm still in good contact with her.

    Paris.
We went just under 2 months ago. I thought it was gonna be a shithole because that's what SighSee and everyone says.
Turns out it's pretty great. All the buildings have this historic grandeur to them. The Louvre is fricking awesome and so is the catacombs. Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and Arc De Triomphe are "can't believe your eyes" moments. They're just massive feats of human engineering and the human race as a whole.
Only time I ever saw Nigerians selling shit was at the Eiffel Tower and even then there wasn't many of them. Paris isn't even that dirty when compared to places like Athens and Brussels.
Even had a couple friendly experiences with Parisians. One of them literally screamed people out the train so we could get off at our stop before the doors closed lmao.

I think people hate Paris because of Paris syndrome. They expect a "city of love" and when it doesn't live up to the hype they get bitter about it.

Pic related is a photo I took.

Also, SighSee doesn't flip images, it deletes metadata known as EXIF. When you flip it in photo viewer, it puts this information in .exif which gets stripped then. To do this properly, flip the image correctly, then open it through mspaint, paint ONE pixel in whatever color where you won't notice and then save the new photo. It will work now.

      >I think people hate Paris because of Paris syndrome. They expect a "city of love" and when it doesn't live up to the hype they get bitter about it.
It's anger and disgust and shock at what these great societies are doing to themselves, and what that says about the state of the world in general.

If you're some overworked salaryman and you come to this place you know as a utopia from books and movies, where things are different and better than where you come from, but it was actually a shithole in advanced stages of decline, wouldn't that freak you out? The realization that there is no utopia? That we are actually stuck in the Kali Yuga, and can expect nothing other than chaos and rot?

The Japanese have been accustomed to seeing the West as special and different ever since their modernizing efforts in the 19th century, the idea that our great cultures are in a state of deep decay must be deeply worrying to them. They've got their own existential problems facing their society. They have enough reasons to be full of ennui. And now this shit.

        Anonymous

Paris is far from just "chaos and rot". Beautiful women, some of the best museums in the world, great food and lots of cultural activity even in this day. City center which most tourists visit is too expensive for some poor immigrants or illegals. Most of the immigrants you see are just people working minimum wage, hardly the types you'd have to be worried about. It's different in some shithole neighborhood, no doubt, but most people are overblown about this. It's also worth noting that Paris =/= France. I'm very tired of people brainlessly shitting on Paris, it almost seems that they do not care about anything good in it and travel purely to see which city has least immigrants, as if major cities haven't always been the very best and the very worst in any given countries. Maybe they are not heterosexual? Surely at least seeing so many hot women in one place could distract them for a moment.

If you happen to see any French they are bound to be rude and cheat you. That's not a pleasant experience. I would rather sit in a hotel room at the airport or go to albania where people leave you alone and there are zero criminals of colour . Sorry that hurts redddits feelings but they imported millions of criminals to replace the French population and now Paris isnt Paris anymore

thought it would be a poluted overcrowded boring city à la any european capital, turns out it's a fun city, metro gets you everywhere and you can have everything from historic places to futuristic rooftop nightclubs within a range of 15 minutes, and if you are a foreigner and meet other foreigners a lot of things will be free

    Kentucky
Easily the most underrated state I've been to

      Why? Never even considered visiting.

I have family in Kentucky and it is actually interesting. The west side of the state is bourbon and bluegrass country. Lexington is a fun city especially during the horse races. Mammoth Cave is the biggest cave in the continental US. And the east side of the state is pure Hillbilly Hell to a degree that is anthropologically fascinating. You can't beat the Appalachians either

Man this thread is hard selling me on italy lol, also anyone saying paris isn't that bad sounds like bullshit because even normies irl tell me paris has gone to the dogs and they're as far from poltards as you can get.

      >Kentucky
Totally with you on this. Idk what I expected like Arkansas tier or something but I was blown away with how nice and peaceful the state was. Plus all the bourbon you could drink. If I had kin up there I'd move there in a heartbeat.

Destin Florida. You hear about all the crime in Florda, so you expect the worst. But holy shit is Destin beautiful. Those white sand beaches are some of the most gorgeous stretches of beach Ive ever seen. There aren't a lot of permanent residents between destin and Miramar beach, so if you go in september, you get the place to yourself. And black people? Nope. Too expensive in Destin. Hence the lack of crime. The food is also pretty fricking amazing. They have great fishing in the gulf and a lot of seafood places in the area are incredible.

For a nice beach, it's one of my favorites in the US. If you're looking for culture though, Destin is definitely not the place.

      >Destin Florida
it was nicer like a decade ago. that whole 30A area has gotten way overdeveloped IMO, traffic and lines at restaurants is something I can experience at home if i wanted to. those beaches though will always keep me coming back.

New York City is the greatest and “truest” city in the world. I’ve been to most major metro areas and nothing holds a candle to it.
It was better in the early aughts but still a great time. I’d love to live there. One of the only places I’ve ever been that I feel truly at home.

      >New York City
i can't wait to one day experience an authentic NEW YORK CITY bodega that you can only find in NEW YORK CITY

Louisville Kentucky has a lot of fun shit to do, but the city has gotten really dangerous. The city hasn't recovered from the riots caused by a police shooting in 2020. The crime used to be centered on a small area downtown, but it's really spilled over into the suburbs. People get carjacked and shot at the grocery stores in the suburbs in Louisville. Old white lady's carry guns in their purses in Louisville.

For anyone interested in Kentucky and who likes to hike, I'd go do the Red River Gorge, Mammoth Cave and Cumberland Falls. You can get a good deal on cabins in Kentucky, especially if you split the cost with a group. The Red River Gorge is amazing in the summer. You can rock climb, raft, swim, go caving, hike to waterfalls, camp. The gorge is really only well known among rock climbers and people in Kentucky, but it's one of my favorite hiking areas in the eastern US. Miguel's Pizza in the gorge is my favorite roadside restaurant in the US.

The day I was walking around all the bourbon row stuff downtown Louisville I was struck by how dead it was. Not in like a derelict way just couldn't see anyone else for blocks. It didn't seem all that dangerous but it was the touristy part of downtown and it might've been a sunday morning or something i forgot.
          >I'd go do the Red River Gorge, Mammoth Cave and Cumberland Falls.
I'd love to hit some of that next time, I only had time to do some ziplining in the mega cavern which was pretty fun. Also if any christgays are visiting KY soon i'd recommend the ark, especially if you got kids.

        Italy really is worth it.
Went there for my honeymoon begrudgingly because it was my wife’s dream. (I wanted to go to Ireland). Spent a time in Milan, Florence, and Positano on the Amalfi coast and it was the most incredible experience of my life. The food is the best you will ever have and that is a promise. The whole layed back lifestyle is perfect for holiday and everyone was incredibly nice to us (even though we’re American). The Mediterranean is beautiful and there’s something for everyone whether it be history, art, culture food, views. You name it.

        Highly highly highly recommend.

I will go with Italy too.
I'm not even american, so it's not like i've never seen old cathedrals or castles, but when i first saw the Patheon in Rome, i was like holy shit, an entire different civilzation was there thousands of years ago, and it's looking at me right now. It's like an UFO in the middle of a city.

Biggest one for me was probably Amsterdam. It’s so much more than the red light district and the coffee shops (though they are entertaining). Cycling round the canals is so much fun and it’s such a beautiful city. Kickass music scene as well and I’ve never met a Dutchman I didn’t like.

I thought that Athens would be a shit hole but parts of the city had real charm. Would gladly hang out for a few days before heading to the islands in future.

Athens is a cool city if you got a bit of common sense and look up which parts to avoid. I stayed there for a month, really, really good food. Surprisingly expensive though. Spain has arguably higher standard of living, food variety, infrastructure and what not, but everything is way cheaper there for comparison. A beer in Spain in some random bar can be as low as 0.8€, but in Athens I never saw anything for less than 2.5€, and their beer sucks too. Great wine though. In which area did you stay? I was close to that tall mountain, the "anarchist" neighborhood (just bullshit I read online).

Thanks for the Spain advice. I’ve only been to San Sébastien for a short stay in the past 5 years. I couldn’t believe how expensive the islands became in the past two years. We stayed near Plaka and then explored a few other neighborhoods. This past summer 50% of the tourists were American which was wild af.

Shibuya or Tokyo in general. I've always thought that Japan tourist areas were just a meme from all the videos and movies I've watched. But when I visited with my family and had a chance to explore with my brother more intimately on foot- I was amazed. Every where you look was something extraordinary. Even the people dressed appropriately and made more "Western" countries pale in comparison. The food quality was out of this world too.

New Yorkers are the most miserable shits in the US. 8 hours is about my limit for staying in NYC. Leaving the city feels like leaving a prison.

Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain. I got random cheap flights with missus and thought it was going to be filled with British boomers and madlads and be a tacky shithole. It is actually a beautiful place.

Canaries are really beautiful, especially if you can rent a car and explore inland. Some roads can be very narrow and intimidating, so ideally be confident in yourself or have experience with mountain roads.
