Hi OP, as a Romanian I can tell you theres no fricking reason to visit Bucharest, if you want to visit Romania by train go straight for the mountains like Brasov or Sinaia, into Transylvania, Bucharest is just commie blocks.

If you want a cool city in the region that would be Budapest

500 is a little on the low side but you can probably fit into that budget if you dont visit anything that needs paying for, I dont have much experience with any of the other cities

Agreed. Bucharest is falling apart. If you love the worst commie blocks it's a good spot. That big ass Parliament building was one of the most insane things from the outside I've ever seen. But yeah op, go to the mountains if you're going there.

Thanks for the advice, I wouldn't mind going to Budapest but I've already been there and would like to see different cities. I should also say I'm going in January/February so I would like to avoid as much bad weather as possible.

I would go to Istanbul instead but I'm a EU c**t without a passport.

Many Europeans can enter Turkey using their ID cards.

I liked Bucharest. Constanta was a fricking shithole though.

Come to Oradea, it's a nice one or two-day visit. Not too many historical buildings but it's clean enough, nice, we have Baile Felix (Felix Springs?), you can go frick off swimming, couple of good restaurants, good-looking main square.

I can say I enjoy living here.

Bonus: fewer stinky gypsies than average

i'm from sofia, when do you plan arriving ?
i could show you around if i'm free.
Sofia is mostly commie blocks ,but it has great mountain just 30 mins away and you could visit with a bus

      Mid January.

      >Sofia is mostly commie blocks
Is that it? Honestly I don't even know why I want to visit it since I know nothing about the country nor know anyone who has ever been there.

I need to look into that then.

Id recommend you Plovdiv instead, the old part of it especially. Sofia has some nice shit ,its like Bucharest, but smaller.
I don't think vising bulgaristan during this time of the year is really a good idea , eastern european winters makes everything look bad

Anyways I'm really ok with showing you around if I'm free and want to obviously. I know the ins and outs of the city quite we

From 1-10 how do you rate Bulgaria to visit solo in January?
And I wouldn't mind meeting someone there but I'm pic related.

Sounds horrible spending all your time in transport

          >All that time
Places are close by so it's not that much time tbh.

it depends a lot of where you go honestly. Sofia and Plovdiv are fine in the winter , everywhere else suck balls during this time. If you wanna go to the mountains for ski or simple tourism it's great

No, that guy is just completely clueless on this. He's right to skip the entirety of EE this time of the year though.

I want to visit the acropolis and the olympic museum.

        Anonymous

Just the acropolis cost like over 12€ to visit during the off season, plus the Acropolis museum is another ticket and costs more. Given how you only have 500€, you seem to be a dumb young kid planning to do too much in too little time with no enough money to do it.

          >not fasting the entire trip so you save money on food
          NGMI

But seriously if I stay for 7 days it amounts for a little over 70€ a day which is plenty for me since I stay on cheap accommodation.
I've done 12 days and multiple countries in central europe for around 400€ a few years back, also if I need to add 100 or 200 euros I can do it but I would rather not.

Where do you come from? Honestly it's worth it working an extra 2-3 days and saving enough money to actually do something fun while you're on vacations rather than being on a shoestring budget and borderline homeless during your vacations.

OP I wanna say, in case their restrictions havent lessened, get all your COVID shit including boosters like now if you can. I went in the spring last year but didn't get a booster (I was just being lazy) and some places like the Acropolis museum and some restaurants deadass won't let you in, even when I had papers from less than 48 hours prior showing a negative covid test (flights both national and international needed them too). Also I agree with some of the other anons, 500 isnt bad (food like souvlaki is only like 2-4 euro), but you'd likely wanna get some more for travel if you're wanting to see any other sites outside of Athens.
