Its shitty fat-filled tourist attractions with cheap, sugary alcohol and cheaper, more sugary food. The biggest people you've ever seen will walk 4 across on the sidewalk, which will always have construction somewhere, while the stupidest people you've ever seen stumble through no-go crosswalks as 10 foot jacked up pick up trucks sail 15 over on a street that wasn't meant for the kinda traffic they have. Even the black bears are gluttonous, and frequently walk amongst the sidewalks with the lards, but I bet you 80% of them don't notice.

Overall, I love it. Plus there's some great hiking nearby and Dollywood right around the corner.

It's a lot of fun. Do the free moonshine tasting at one of the big stills on main streat. You get drunk for free and can chat up other tourists/girls.

The nature and hikes near by are stellar.

Make sure you stay in the heart of it. If you frick up and book a hotel by Dollywood, you won't be walking anywhere, because it's on a four lan highway. That's where the fattest most stereotypical real tree cammo wearing Muricans stay.

Confirmed it's 5bux, and also they start you off with things like "Orange Cream" and end with "Pickle Juice", "Cotton Candy Fwooty Gumdrop" and "Bowl of Hair"

If you don’t mind very tourist trappy areas, TN has a few of them with lovely views. If you want something less Touristy but same-ish landscape go to Red River Gorge in KY

Come visit me in Townsend. We're called "The Peaceful Side of the Smokies" and we're pretty much the opposite of busy Gatlinburg. We have great coffee shops, restaurants, and our first brewery and disitillery here. You could spend a weekend here or split one between here and Gatlinburg if you get bored over there.

Been there, not into tourist trap stuff so just drove through. Parking and attractions are expensive as shit, and it's way overcrowded too. Smokey mountains itself were great to drive through. Didn't get many chances to hike through but I'd imagine that would also be great if you can

Just gonna echo what everyone else has said, it is a tourist trap that you should only go to for like a day at most. That said, the area is very very cool. Visit Great Smoky Mountains National Park or one of the state parks nearby. Gatlinburg was fun when I went there on a marching band trip in my freshman year of high school, but I was 14 and with the homies and it snowed. Would not go back as an adult unless I was taking my kids with me or something.

It's the redneck Las Vegas. Too many tourist traps that are set up to just take your money. It's good if you have little kids but as an adult the traffic is awful and I could not find a good restaurant for the life of me.

I will say hiking the smokies is totally worth it, Mount LeConte is one of the more rewarding hikes I've done with the base camp at the top.
