Melaka is one of the best cities in Southeast Asia. Hugely undervisited...only a handful of whites here, and Chinese tourist numbers still far below 2019 levels. Still, there are a fair number of Chinese young people here ahead of the New Year. The huge hotel supply means there are some really good deals available...my 12th floor executive suite in a brand-new highrise overlooking the riverfront promenade cost $20.30/night after taxes and fees.
There are dozens of night markets and dining areas all around the city, and the riverfront promenade has many bars, with beer prices in the $2-3 range for a bottle of Tiger or Carlsbad. Melaka is a very musical city, and the food selection is superior to Kuala Lumpur, IMO. You can get so many different types of food here in so many different settings. Most of the locals are very welcoming to foreigners, even if their English isn't the best. While some of the streets are less pleasant to walk along, the historic downtown has a plethora of non-motorized pedestrian spaces, which even the motorbikes respect here.
In short, Malacca mogs.
