Going to Copenhagen in December

Hey SighSee
I'm planning a trip to Copenhagen and I wonder if you have any good recommendations about what to do/see/eat there
Also how's the city overall?

Copenhagen is pretty sweet, probably the nicest of the Nordic capitals. As it's Denmark everything costs a fricking fortune but there's a nice vibe everywhere.

    This anon liked:

    Tivoli gardens
    OP picrel
the castle with the star shaped moat
botanic gardens (the cactus house is almost as good as Kew, plant fans)

    disliked:
little mermaid statue is tiny and absolutely thronged with inexplicably excited tourists, the Danish navy frigate tied up next to it was 100x more interesting and I am still disappointed they didn't fire on the crowd
Christiana was full of weed fans and other brainlets
food is Nordic bland if you're not paying a hundred bucks a plate
Lego stores are like the Little Mermaid: busy and crap

Copenhagen in the winter is dark and cold, which adds to its charm but don't underestimate it

How long are you there for? you'll exhaust tourist stuff within a few days

      Thanks!
I'll be there for 4 days around new year's eve.
How much did you spend in a day on average? Any off the path stuff you liked?

Where you surprised that a freetown from the 1970's had weed in it?

No. Stoners are boring and pathetic even when expected

rent a bicycle. Just go for a ride and you can stop wherever you want if you see something interesting.

Also yes the little mermaid statue is nothing special, there was a line in front of it when I was there, nope'd right out of there

Copenhagen anon here. Renting a bike is a great way to experience what Copenhagen has to offer. Go see the Louisiana museum, Kronborg and take a walk in Dyrehavsbakken (easy to get there by train from Copenhagen Central station).

You won't see a lot of mind-blowing stuff but we do have a handful of nice historical monuments scattered around Sjælland.

Dane here, Copenhagen born and bread.
Don't waste your time here, the rest of Europe is right there and infinitely more interesting.
And especially frick Christiania. Burn that shit to the ground.

If you don't heed my warning and actually come to this shit city, then make sure you eat smørrebrød (Open faced sandwhiches), stegt flæsk med persillesovs (fried pork belly with parsley sauce. "Æble flæsk" is my favourite it means apple pork belly, so it's the same pieces but with this apple/onion stuff fried. It's great), "en ristet med det hele" (Danish hot dogs "a roasted with everything"), try frikadeller too (Danish meatballs that are a million times better than scrawny swedish ones)

I appreciate your warning but I'm already sold on the idea, I'm gonna hygge the shit out of the diem.
(Had the brink of an idea to take a day trip to Malmö but I like being not stabbed)
I'm generally looking for a comfy Christmas/New years eve getaway with the lady.

Best Nordic city for New Years is Reykjavík. Serious. The entire country buys a small arsenal of fireworks and it’s like a war zone.

All of Copenhagen and the surrounding suburbs are the same. People shoot fireworks off the whole week leading up to new years here.
I never understood how they could afford it with the prices and right after Christmas.

Go to Lund instead. Nice little city.
Rented a car from Copenhagen, drove all around southern Jutland then headed back to the east, and got to Lund. Drove all around Skåne, it was absolutely beautiful.
        I love autumn.

malmo is worth a day trip (everything interesting can be seen in about a day), but i wouldn't recommend spend a day there vs copenhagen unless you're in copenhagen for at least a week or two and have already seen everything you wanted to see

I hate this term so fricking much, if theres only one slice of bread then nothing is being sandwiched

      anon this anon is right:

I visited Denmark a year ago and Copenhagen for like 8 days and was bored to death on day 2.
Maybe in peak summer weather it's comfy to stroll around the city but I dunno man, I was just so bored by everything (the people, the food, the architecture after a while).

Aarhus was way more fun somehow, much better vibe. People felt more like actual people.
In Copenhagen everything was expensive (and I don't even care much, I'm rich) to an insane degree and a lot of shops just sold the same old tired hipster trash.
The parks are beautiful though. The people are kind but soulless. I never noticed anyone doing something crazy. Very npc like experience.

It was like Japan without all the weirdness and quirks of their society and culture. Just the boring underlying layer of structure and order.

Anyway. Highlights were Louisiana museum and Kronborg castle, that was an awesome day trip. Really recommend.

        >Kronborg castle
Must see, coming from top towers and exploring lower part alone in cold season is fun in chilly way.
In CPH: Glyptotece, Rosenborg castle and Round Tower because it could be done in a single day. Can't recommend Tivoli for queues. Frozen channel will be nice to see, not sure about rental cycling.
Also, Fredensborg in summer with english guide*~~

German anon here. I can confirm. The Danish frikadelle er a million times better than the crappy Swedish excuse of a meatball.

Also the Danish ones are similar to the North German Frikadellen.

Been to Copenhagen several times so next month I'm giving Aarhus a shot. Mostly to watch the World Cup with Danes. Don't even know if there is anything else to do there. I'm not really interested in museums or sightseeing or nature.

It is the most shattering experience of a young man's life when one morning he awakes and quite reasonably says to himself "I will never play the Dane." When that moment comes, one's ambition ceases.

Is there a nightlife in Copenhagen or are there any better cities in Denmark? For bars and clubs for 20-35 years old?

There are loads. Copenhagen is the only place worth visiting in Denmark tbh. One of the greatest cities in the world

I'm going very soon, meeting a lady-friend for 5 days and then a friend near Aalborg.
    Ideas for both places?
I don't mind going on excursions from Copenhagen and I'm sure she'd like to see them too.
Up North, my friend doesn't get out much so I'd like to drag him out to some stuff, possibly some bars/nightlife too. Is it easy to make friends with Danes or meet other travelers?
