The big question is what you want to do in Switzerland.
The Swiss Travel Pass is a great deal, even more but not only if you're a railfan.

Sounds like a waste of money for such a short period of time

It's Switzerland, you can cross the entire country and come back within a single day.
If you want to max out the rail pass then there are many opportunities to do so within a couple days.

Is your goal to maximize the amount of time on trains or visit Switzerland? Either way it'd be cheaper without the unlimited pass unless you literally want to be on trains the majority of your days

          >Is your goal to maximize the amount of time on trains or visit Switzerland?
Good thing about Switzerland is that you can do both.
Trains on scenic routes are some of the main attractions of Switzerland.

Go for scenic routes, all of them have regular trains where you don't need to pay anything in addition if you hold the rail pass.
There are also many ferries that accept the pass plus some mountain railways and cable cars.

You're literally moronic and just keep ignoring the point the it's a waste of money for the unlimited pass for 1 week. Even op said he's trying to make the most of it since his wife already bought it

The pass pays for itself after a couple of long distance trips.
Local public transport is included as well so it takes even less time to break even.
If you want to visit more than 2 regions in Switzerland the Swiss Travel Pass is a good deal,

You have to do Zermatt and see the Matterhorn. The ride to the village is epic. The rail pass also gets you half off the gondola to the observation deck and the ice cave. It's the most intense view Ive ever seen in my life. Photos can't do the view from the top justice.

You can get a nice Airbnb in Zermatt for less than $80/night.
