Has anyone here flown China Southern? I found a cheap ticket from China to London using them. Is it worth it?

Pretty shit overall with garbage food 9 times out of 10. They're basically mega budget airline quality with a medium price tag. Air China is the best Chinese airline, and even they're subpar.

I've flown it once or twice. Service is pretty standard, food isn't great (they gave us their food during quarantine at some point). Air China is probably better but China Southern should work just fine.

Chinese airlines have only one good thing about them: their planes are brand new, especially for non-shithole international flights. That’s it.
The food is shit most of time because they try to be super stingy with budget so they always go for the chepeast options and anyway your average nongming only wants to eat plain rice or noodles, seats are more than average, and service is kept at minimum, so you don’t have fun random crap like a mid-flight complimentary ice cream or a decent choice of alcohol. Entertainment is basic, with popular movies. Super stingy about not allowed to use ANY electronics during take off and landing but things might have changed since 2019. Not the worst, not the best, does it job.

That actually stopped a few years ago. Really fricking pissed me off tbh. I even went on flights where they'd get pissy with me for reading on my kindle during the middle of a flight.

Hereby my love letter to Chinese pilots: When I flew China Southern, it was fine. Inside the cabin wasn't special, BUT I loved the pilots, and the engine/hydraulics/plane in general was in seemingly great shape. Butter landings, always. I guess I am just lucky, though.

I like rice, so I don't have a massive problem with the food, except that it's always the same fricking 3 dishes every single time on every major mainland Chinese airline.
Do not expect any smiles or whatever, and then it's fine.

I've flown them a few times, it's just a very basic flight.

The seats are somewhat smaller than what you get on a US or Japanese based carrier.
The meals are incredibly basic not bad but not good, just something to hold you over
The entertainment is bare bones, bring something if you want anything in english for the most part
Staff does not give a frick you don't speak their language and often doesn't speak much or any english
The airport terminals are so-so but whatever it's china and a cheap carrier

The biggest issue with CS is that their on-time schedules are all over the board, if you have ANYTHING less than a 4hr layover planned you're pushing your luck.

I paid $460 for round trip JFK–BKK tickets via air china in late 2019. I miss those days bros

      >tfw 325 from LAX to NRT round trip so long as a long layover in shanghai

I miss it so much, yeah the flight wasn't anything to rave about but man did it make shit so fricking cheap to get away.
