I tore my achilles walking down the steps at Mockernbrucke on the U-Bahn in Berlin. Utter agony, pain you wouldn't believe. Still no idea exactly how it happened since I essentially blacked out in pain from the moment in ruptured.

The Germans were very nice and helped me out. Took a cab to the hospital. German doctors immobilized it and asked me when I was going back to America. Said in one month, they shrugged and discharged me. Limped around Berlin and Copenhagen, somewhat like I had planned. Got back to the USA and was in surgery within a week.

Full recovery. Overall positive experience with the German system. Considering the places I usually travel are vastly less developed I was pretty lucky all things considered that this happened where it did.

Fire alarm went off in some shitty Airbnb. I didn't realize it at the time but the sound was damaging my ears. A year later I still have constant ringing.

I tried lifting my girlfriend and underestimated how heavy she would be because she’s short. That was almost a year ago and my back still isn’t the same.
