Has anyone traveled the pan-american highway?

What was it like? How dangerous was it in central America?

Sounds like a genuinely miserable experience, why even bother if you're not fleeing from some shithole

Central america is safe if you do yours and stick to the main roads. I would only be worried by the mexican roads at night, especially the northen ones, oh hell naaaah

Not really, now that it's migrant central there is a proper hiking route. Illegal? Sure, but not dangerous as before

Most of those migrants still drop like flies in those routes, though.

        >inb4 but I'm not a poorgay
Unless you hire security to travel with you, the guerrillas and opportunists will probably steal your shit from you.

Not really. Globohomosexual likes to portray the place as super dangerous to convince the US to let all rapefugees in, but if it was that dangerous people wouldn't do it

Nah, you basically pay a coyote/tour guide who takes care of your group. There aren't any guerillas anymore but yeah, don't go there looking as a flamboyant rich gringo lmao

Anon, you seem extremely sheltered. People do it for the chance at a better life because the situation is so bad in Venezuela/Haiti/shithole that they're risking their lives to get the frick out

Yeah, you are probably right, it's so safe now that one of the latest documented crosses by US Army bikers needed a Panama military escort.

            >cartels
send in the army, shoot them all
            >waaah jungle is too hard
modern construction equipment has no problem with this
            >waaaah those countries are poor
theyve been there literally thousands of years, there's no excuse for them to be poor at this point. countries like the US and Australia have only been around 200 years and shit all over them because they actually do some fricking work
extremely dense jungle with horrible terrain filled with malaria/yellow fever mosquitoes that shelters a bunch of druglords/guerillas; even if it was safer, the darien gap is also protected by a bunch of treehuggers, NGOs and indigenous people

the US was going to do it, but decided not to. I believe it was about preventing the spread of certain diseases.

Panama/US doesn't want to make it any easier for drug smugglers and poor South Americans to go north.

Some 20 year old biked from Alaska all the way to Southern Argentina, look it up it was recent. he was robbed 5 times, I think mostly in Mexico, and spent a month in a Colombian hospital after getting into an accident, sounds fun though.
