Hostel or Hotel?

I am going to Rome mid February for a few days.
I know what to do in general, but it will be my first time solo traveling.
I havent booked accommodation yet, and I find hotels in Rome too expensive.
I have never been to a hostel before, and perhaps I prefer it over hotel, because one can meet new people and especially girls.
I have some experience living with other people in the same facility due to my time in military, honestly now I prefer privacy, but I guess I can make an exception for a few days.
Is hostels worth it? The problem is not financial, I can afford a hotel, but it's more a social thing. I will be alone, and I am social so I think I can make new acquaintances. A girl to frick would be also a bonus. Are girls in hostels easy? I am not the prettiest guy lol.

If you want privacy, go for hotel and meet people at bars. Bars are a social place after all and people are more willing to interact if you thanks to booze.

Bar scene in rome is somewhat dead, even if you speake de languige. A hostel rec area really is a nice way to meet some poon, I might actually go now that OP mentions it just to meet chicks.

      Wish me luck!

Find a hostel that offers a private room or get one of the smaller dormitories. Since you got to pay more, it filters out a lot of idiots from booking.

If you can have sex consistently back home, you can have sex while travelling. If you can't get sex back home consistently, you got to downgrade by going to nations which are progressively poorer. Italy is not the easiest place for casual sex, especially if you're not very attractive, but you'll mostly meet other tourists at hostel anyways.

But I'd also like to add that Rome in February should be quiet as it is the low season. So a hostel might have loads of long term people or locals going between accommodations, depending on the place and what policies they got. So you might not meet that many travellers. If you want to avoid long termers and locals just minding their business while they're looking for a house, get a hostel that's slightly more expensive than the average as long termers and locals will generally go for the most economic option.

I will also be solo travelling in Rome mid Feb.

Just book a hostel, although I booked mine about a month ago and it was nearly already fully booked then. So you might have some trouble getting somewhere at short notice.
Who you get in your room is pot luck, but its pretty much certain there will be at least some other solo travellers.
My last solo trip everyone in the room was solo, which I think was by design, but I'm not sure how many other hostels do that.

If you're friendly and confident and are not an ugly socially awkward freak then people will be more than willing to chat to you and probably go out for a meal and or drinks.
Just say hi to whoever's in the room when you walk in. Group travellers in your room may well also let you join up with them, its just a bit less common because sometimes they want to get on with their own thing.
Privacy wise try and get a hostel that has a curtain that goes across your bed, if you can't then it shouldnt be too much of a problem anyway, especially only for a few days.

Worth noting that its Valentines day on the 14th, I was slightly worried that the rooms would just be a bunch of couples, but I expect not because that's hardly very romantic.
On the positive side the single girls might be a lot more up for being romanced.

I've been keeping an eye on it and it does seem to be pretty busy still, looks quite packed on public snapmaps and as I mention my hostel is fully booked and its arounds Valentines day so there will be lots of people around regardless.

Weather is probably going to be a bit shite too.

You sound British - for you it will be perfect weather. It won't be cold by any stretch of imagination, plenty of sun and you will find the temperatures bearable. If you go any later in the year, it will be too hot for you. Rome, like all big Italian cities, gets very hot in the summer.

            Good guess.
            >for you it will be perfect weather. It won't be cold by any stretch of imagination
The weather forecast for my time there is exactly the same as it is here now - 11*C and cloudy...
Sucks because its fairly warm and sunny now
            >it will be too hot for you
True, but I coped walking 30k steps around Paris at 36*C last summer

I don't think any couple that celebrates the 14th will do so in a hostel dorm, so no worries there.

When I travelled with my gf I never found booking two beds cheaper than a private room, except maybe once or twice because I booked on the same day during a very busy period.

A private room in a hostel is a good compromise in terms of privacy, price and social environment.

      >If you can't get sex back home consistently, you got to downgrade by going to nations which are progressively poorer.
That's not necessary if you include fellow tourists in your efforts.

If you exclude the locals, then yes, it is the same. I'm from EU, so if you can't get laid with local girls back home, you won't bed them just because you're travelling and you're sharing an 8 bed dorm in Cambodia. But when most guys go to poorer places like SEA here, it is specifically to bed the locals as the standards are different (lower).

Your chances of getting on with a fellow tourist can be much higher than at home, especially if you don't share an 8 bed dorm but instead have a private room.
People let loose on holidays and that includes women.

oma.bakecaincontrii.com is how the locals find em, it's got the cover as a "dating" website. Cheap, like 70-140, but beware chicks with dicks.
Also https://www.escortforumit.xxx/ is a more polished experience

It's also technically legal, so there's that.

I think this is overstated. Back home women already have loads of options for getting "loose", including online dating. On places like Tinder it's basically a buffet of hot guys for these girls. But holiday factor can definitely help, and in some places like India you can run the whole "spiritual" angle with some stupid girls "finding themselves". But it requires a certain degree of confidence and looks that you'd already have if you were consistent back home. If you have barely any sexual life in your home country, there's probably something wrong with you that no amount of travelling will magically fix.

at this point i am thinking of just booking a hotel room and calling an escort. is there any legit sites for escorts in rome? how much are the costs?

Why don't you try online dating apps and set them to Rome? That way you can arrange some dates. Some girls prefer foreigners.

                >I have shitty southern accent the girls dont find it attractive at all.
I don't know, its kind of a novelty in Europe. Plus I met a really thick southern accented frat boy in a hostel before and he did okay for himself, was around other Americans though

so whats your strategy? going around bars? wont it be a bit awkward going alone? would i seem desperate? provided that i don't go to a hostel. also i am 25, am i too old for hostels? whats the cut off age?

I'm the guy who told you won't magically get laid...no 25 is not too old anywhere. Americans have very strange ideas about age. There is no cut off. Take it from me, I've worked in hostels for two years. Obviously being under 35 and looking younger will always help.

My strategy is just to meet people at the hostel. Its easy to make friends if you're self confident and social.

UK tourists are the worst in Europe lol. I can see why it's easier to run the whole English stereotype from countries that think UK is very posh and refined.

Yeah exactly, and its pretty much fully justified too in most places.
The actual refined English people holiday in Southern France or somewhere like America or the Caribbean.

Its the only the chavs who go to South Spain and the Greek islands etc and wreak havoc.
Whereas the Americans don't get that experience and just get the propaganda that we're gentleman, which I will massively play up on if I get the opportunity.

Don't give up completely, I'm just telling you what you know already. I'd still try, you never know if you might get lucky. Sometimes you have real nutters staying in hostels, and some of them are good looking women, so you might be able to screw someone like that, albeit you know what they say about sticking dick in crazy.

Slim to none if you're even asking. Casual relationships aren't as common in Italy. Plus most young people are pretty attractive, especially on the night out. Friend circles are pretty tightly knit too. If you're hot you will frick everywhere in the Western World, of course, but I really doubt some random SighSee poster is conventionally attractive and normal enough to pull that off. IIRC it has the lowest match rate in Europe for Tinder.

Money is no concern, I just want to hang out with people for some of the days I travel.

Well, I dislike hostels but they are better to meet people. So go to a hostel and stay in a private room. That said, my personal approach in this is that if you're 30+ you probably shouldn't be hanging out with the youth. I'm no moralist concerning age like some people are (specially americans but I'm also not one of chan american haters) but I do think it's odd for a 30 yo to do that.
Last time I did that I was 25 and stayed in a private suite in a hostel. At that time I already thought it was a bit odd to hang out with 20 yo as our lives and interests seemed very different. I did have a good time though.
But nowadays, in my late 20's, I would only go to a hostel in two situations: travelling alone as a broke man I would get me a private room and stay on my own, avoid socializing or travelling with friends on a short budget.
Hotels are much better, tbh. At least for me as I'm a natural loner.

It's in Rome, stayed there for a week (I know, hypocrisy, I'm a cheapskate),
had 2 black immigrants in my room who peed on the floor of the toilet, kept heating on I was sweating all night in winter, kept eating in the room and smelled horrible. Breakfast included was a small shot of coffee and a pre-packaged croissant the size of half a fist without a flavour this is after convincing the receptionist that I did infact pay for a breakfast included dorm bed and he telling me no and the website (Booking.com) made a mistake and they have no breakfast.
