how does it come "naturally"? Do you approach/get approached by people?
I don't want to bother people or force myself on them

dress up like someone you would want to talk to then go to a bar where locals might hang out. Its the one you will feel scared to go into that no one knows about. Then go in and ask if they mind if you sit there? to the bar. Then strike conversation about are you from around here? Or they will ask and you can go from there as far as conversation. You have to have something worth saying like why you are there? fun stories you have etc. Then cut it short pay for your drink and shake their hand and tell them it was nice meeting them. Otherwise youre there forever and theyre now your long friend but really local alcoholic that will enable you. Remember youre there for the conversation not the rabbit hole of alcoholism. When you get good at that you start working that magic on sober people randomly elsewhere that are more unexpecting of a frenly conversation. Or decide normies are c**ts and get your frens fix from these local blue collar guys with drinking problems.

homeless, blue collar bar patrons, old people and staff are generally good to strike a conversation with. Because theyre lower on the pecking order. Everyone beyond that will wonder what your angle is. Here, hopefully, your angle is meeting people and the more secure you get with the said mentioned people that more comfortable and non desperate you will be when you talk to random strangers in other places in life that are above or equal to you in status. The smooth conversation and the now lack of desperation for human contact will make your intentions more clear to the person youre attempting to convey that too and with your new social skills it will project that confidence that will break them and make them think youre better than them and they need to frens you. Then boom youre in.

I stress brevity with this bar tactic unless an opportunity arises. 1. Bar people will be gauging you and if you lose too many points this can turn ugly. 2. You enter with them in control of the bar and this gives you the opportunity to be assertive and practice steering and control on your exit. 3. Youre able to gauge how well you did by their reaction when you excuse yourself as you have finished your drink and conversation.

This is also for a bar setting not a club setting. Clubs are different and will be clicked up, so you will be usually interrupting. Thats a higher skill than what you got.

Also if youre the type of person that over analyzes what people are thinking about you at any given moment you will never be able to strike a conversation. You will be forever in that world and stuck in a shell you created. It's good to pay attention to but only so much. Like if you lose a bunch of points with the guy to your right, take notice and reflect on what you could have done better. Like if he asks you where your from, its good to respond back with asking where he is from to show interest etc. But as long as situations dont end up in confrontations its a win. If youre down 5 points they will still generally consider meeting you and having a conversation as a pleasant stimuli, or at least acceptable.

Guided activities such as walking tours in the local language will have locals or at least domestic tourists.

Talk to people? Its pretty obvious I'm a tourist wherever I go, so people who want to talk to a foreigner will normally come up to me and start talking to me. Also theres often locals staying in hostels depending on where you are, and the people working there are often locals.

But on the subhect of tinder and bumble, anyone got any advice about using it while travelling? Thinking of trying it out soon. If I'm doing a whistle stop tour of a few places and just stopping in each for a couple days, can I set a really big area, or keep changing the city, and then just say something to the effect of "I'm a tourist...bla bla bla... I want to kiss a girl from every country". Would that kinda thing work? Literally never used dating apps before and never will for an qctual relationahip.

Bro just go to a mildly busy bar with people near your age and talk to people. Ask what you should check out in the city. Locals are usually happy to help (in most countries) and travelers might want to hang out with another traveler

Stop them in the street and ask how to rotate images.

That should get a conversation going.
