How is South Africa for a vacation? Other than the beach at Cape Town, what is there to actually do there?

I went last December for the second time, depending on budget I'll recommend renting a car (or motorbike if you dare) and do R44´- R43 between Cape Town and Agulhas, very scenic, nice towns and you can stop for shark diving, NIle croc diving in Gansbaai, whale spotting, penguins, seals... In Agulhas Atlantic and Indian ocean touch, it's nice. I went all the way to Durban but although the garden route is nice the panorama changes a lot from Agulhas to the east.

Don't know where you're from but ZA is quite dangerous, keep the in mind.

What about a safari through Kruger Park? Any recommendations for companies to use or how to plan it? I’ll be staying in the country for 8 days and am really just looking for a generic tour through the park to see the animals and sites. On the official Kruger site and other private company sites the lowest timeframe they offer is a two to three day stay in the park.

Never went because they didn't let me in on a motorbike (for obvious reasons) but I've heard a lot of good things about Kruger. You can visit on your own or join a tour but can't stay in the park if you don't book on one of the campsites after 18h. And I think one day only hardly covers the size of Kruger but you do have the option, take a look at tripadvisor. Sorry can't be more helpful on that part of the country.

If that pic is what you were riding that’s very cool. Got my motorcycle license back in July and got a Ninja 400. Admittedly I only have less than 300 miles on it though because I don’t have much time to ride and I live in a very densely packed state. I watched a video of a woman motorbiking her way through Egypt and it looked awesome. A motorbike trip through an exotic country like that has to be one of the best experiences

It was, and definitely one of the best trips I ever did, although scary sometimes and missed a dirtbike many others... I've done a lot of stupid shit in my life but crossing SouthAfrica on that was top 3 no doubt. Anyway, if you visit, I rented with gsafrica/dot/com, not a single problem with them.

I did not care for SA. Just go to Australia.

People romanticize these shitholes too much.
