How much are flight prices expected to go down over the next six months to a year? I want to travel South American, especially Colombia and maybe around the Caribbean from Australia but the cheapest return flights I'm seeing are about $2,400 Australian dollarydoos to Bogota

I sure hope so but its unlikely. The inflation and staff disuption is there to stay. Hostels also seem to have gone up 50% even though the dollar had strengthened a lot

Medellin I will say had a very mild climate that apparently stays the same all year around. It is great if you enjoy spring I think. I prefer my weather a little colder but its essentially California but without extreme heat waves and no beach.
The superiority complex they have is astronomically high. Some of the worst people to make friends with as a foreigner because they generally just see them as walking ATM insects to crush and harvest.

Prices are shit because not all flights from Australia to South America have resumed since the pandemic ended. LATAM only recently restarted flights to Australia. Qantas still have not restarted direct flights to Santiago, they are code sharing with LATAM but not operating their own flights and their prices are ridiculous. Air New Zealand had pre-pandemic flights from Brisbane/Sydney/Melbourne to Buenos Aires via Auckland they have just restarted that service and the prices are too high at the moment. Either cough up the cash or wait a year or so to see if the prices drop. Keep in mind though that South America is usually more pricey from Australia than Europe or North America.
Some destinations have not entirely recovered pre-2020 flights.
Such is the case for Europe-Japan, for example. With less flights, prices stay higher.
In the meantime, some prices are cheaper than pre-2020, such as Europe-North America with non-budget airlines.
