Have you tried asking at the pharmacy? I asked for alprazolam, but they were out and offered me diazepam instead. I'll ask for tramadol next time. Please share more pharmacy stories.

Wherever I go I end up meeting burgers who after a while ask me some tips to get an equivalent of whatever wienertail of hard drugs their israelite doctor gave them.
Kinda scary how normalised that shit is there.

It’s unreal how mind fricked so many people are, they self diagnose as having “anxiety” or “adhd” then run to the nearest shekelwitz m.d. who of course confirms and writes them a monthly prescription of synthetic meth which magically “helps them focus” at their horrifically mind-numbing and unfulfilling job. I work with half a dozen people like this. They’re all terminally on a computer, don’t exercise, don’t socialize, have no hobbies besides video games or netflix and have a childlike diet of pure slop, soda, pizza, fried foods, etc. Subhuman shit, I try to have sympathy but that well has about run dry.

        >They self diagnose as having “anxiety” or “adhd” then run to the nearest shekelwitz m.d.
I was diagnosed as a child due to shocking attention issues.
        >"helps them focus” at their horrifically mind-numbing and unfulfilling job.
My job is exceptionally fulfilling and brings a sense of purpose.
        >I work with half a dozen people like this. They’re all terminally on a computer, don’t exercise, don’t socialize, have no hobbies besides video games or netflix and have a childlike diet of pure slop, soda, pizza, fried foods, etc.
        >I exercise regularly, have diverse hobbies (reading, hiking, board games), my diet consists of freshly prepared food without sugar, processed food, meat (pescitarian), I do not watch streaming services and have good social relationships, including a loving wife and families.
        >Subhuman shit, I try to have sympathy but that well has about run dry.
Because you have your preconceived notions that make you feel justified. Just like everyone else. Does my sympathy run dry for you? No. You are someone who deserves the same sympathy and understanding anyone else does. The latter is what you are sorely lacking in: understanding.

So it is your mom was one of those morons who can’t go 5 minutes without having a label on themselves to show other people, the point still stands.
I agree with anon, why don’t you have your pills if it’s so important? Why didn’t you already ban yourself from going to a country where they don’t accommodate this shit?

No, she resisted it and I wasn't on medication until 21. Assumptions might make your beliefs easy and real, but do you have any insight or understanding? No, you don't, and you don't want to, either.
Godspeed anon, you will need it.

I’m the one you replied to originally. Help me understand anon, I think adhd is bullshit perpetuated by Bergs so that they can keep raking profits for the pharma scam network. What’s “shocking” attention issues exactly? Genuinely curious, not mocking you. I’m open to hear your viewpoint but I’ve got pretty strong views regarding adhd and anxiety “medication” and the normalization of them. Would you agree that they’re overprescribed and diagnosed at least?

            Anonymous

How do these attention issues differ from just normal unhappiness about sitting in a room listening to someone go on and on about something completely self-referential that you'll never actually need to know as an adult.

            >What’s “shocking” attention issues exactly
Ok, first off I 100% agree regarding the aggressive prescription of antianxiety and adhd medications. They are disgracefully overprescribed and the pathologisation of many "normal" behaviours is obnoxious. It also detracts from self-management, which is essential, and as a corollary, the medication is a tool, not a solution: any tool requires the skill to use it. It can be used just as easily to focus on distractions as it is to focus on key tasks.
To address "shocking attention issues": my report card as a child was terrible, I would walk out the class and go watch the lawnmower ride around. Even now I struggle to focus on "boring" tasks, even though I'm cognisant of their importance. It comes hand in hand with extreme procrastination, disorganisation, and daydreaming which can only be described as creating entire worlds to escape reality. Do I work on this? Yes, of course. I don't want to be miserable. Is it an issue? Yes. Do I see it as a part of my identity? Frick no. The mind is powerful, and there is ample evidence to show psychiatric issues are indeed very real. Experience shows us this.
I did have another post but it got jannied. Happy to answer other questions.

All those years of growth have not taught you how to exercise any degree of self-control? Yes, this includes being able to kick your craving for marijuana or amphetamines in a country where they are illegal.

Disciplining yourself to take a shower and brush your teeth before bed, even if your inner child doesn't feel like doing it. Checking out by checkout time. That's about as much focus as is needed while traveling. On the streets your attention should be hyperactive, noticing and responding to everything. When your inner toddler starts saying "I'm bored", tell it to shut up, sit still, listen and observe. Patience is a virtue, especially among Asians.

Do you know me? No. Do you know my mother? No. Do you have an understanding of my life, experiences, and mind? No.
Without understanding our world is just delusion. Understanding takes observation, effort, and intelligence (being able to examine, assess, and see effects of actions). good luck to you with this, there is nothing more to say.

This is how it works, welcome to adulthood OP, when you make excuses in the real world, there’s nobody to blame and nothing gets solved, you just convince yourself that you’re not good enough to do what you want. You miss out. You lose. That’s all excuses do for you as an adult. You don’t wanna miss out? Stop making excuses then. It won’t hurt me, or anybody you know, or anybody “in charge” of you, none of us care about you, we’ve got our own shit going on, excuses only hurt and cripple yourself.

Once you're dependent it's a huge pain in the ass coming off medication like this. Make whatever moral judgement you want, but in practical terms it is extremely disruptive to your life coming off this shit.

I was in the states for almost a month, and whenever I turned on the TV the only commercials I ever saw were about drugs or insurance. Very rarely was it about something else. I have the same experience with western (not just US, but including the richer EU countries), they're all on some sort of wienertail.
I have nothing against drugs but I avoid it if I can. I'd take a pain killer only if the pain is too painful for me to sleep through like when I had my wisdom tooth years ago.
Last time I took something to stop my shits I couldn't shit for an entire fricking week, so yes these drugs definitely work and in unavoidable cases I'd definitely take it, but again I try to avoid it if I can. Only thing I do regularly is get my annual health check up and tests.
If I went and talked to a doctor/psychiatrist and talked about my mental health I'm pretty sure I'd be diagnosed with at least 10 different flavors of down syndrome and be asked to take a bucket of pills daily, but frick that.

Why not just take a bunch with you on your holiday? If you tell your psychiatrist you're going on a holiday they can give you a script with repeats that you can take to a pharmacist whom you then tell that you're going on holiday.

Expat pharmacies sell ritalin and a bunch of other drugs under the counter, but someone with clout has to vouch for you and the risks involved are relatively serious.

Uhh that's like what, $100 AUD? Rather close to price parity. Remember they do not manufacture Concerta, Vyvanse etc in SEA - part of why global supply issues are such a problem.
Glad you got sorted, and apologies on behalf of the people who felt the need to disgorge their opinions here.

thanks, and thanks to other helpful posters. I didn't post again until now. also I'm used to people arrogantly telling me my illness isn't real, most of all my own family. ADHD destroyed my life for decades no matter how hard I tried and I probably would have become an hero if I hadn't discovered meds, which have helped me so much. $100AUD struck me as a lot because I'm used to paying $30 for 1-2 months of dexies, which are subsidised. today is my first day taking methylphenidate and it feels very similar to the first time I took dexies, so I'm anticipating a similar trajectory. very glad to have this sorted out.

I get you anon, and I was the one who offered to help you out if you needed it ( realistically it wouldn't have helped having 1-3 50mg vyv.
I can relate, and I do not judge. Amazing that some feel the need to blather their opinions for... not sure what purpose. To feel justified in their reality? Probably.
Very glad you got it sorted, and have a wonderful holiday my friend.

ah well thanks for the offer anyway! appreciate it. imo, such people often have an undiagnosed / untreated issue of their own, perhaps because they were told that whatever the were experiencing was their fault, that there was something wrong with them but it wasn't an illness, they were just abnormal etc., and sadly they believed it, and now feel compelled to tell others the same thing. so yeah, probably. hope they can realise it's not their fault and get help.
