Are there many white people there?

Depends on how you look at it. Right now I am in Swakopmund. It's very touristic and has many whites. Windhoek city centre which looks very nice doesn't have many whites except for the malls. They stick to their own areas it seems.

      is it worth it?

It is very enjoyable. I have a great time SO far and can only say a few bad things.

Do you travel solo? Is it easy to rent and drive a car? Are roads safe? Is it safe enough to entirely solo it?
Namibia has been on my top list for a small while, but never bothered to do any research apart from nice places to see/experience.

      Solo - no with family
Car and roads - easy to rent but pricey roads are surprisingly excellent but I only went from Windhoek to Swakopmund to the coast so far.

Solo it - I'd say yes. People are friendly and the places to avoid and far and few.

would you recommend taking a motorcycle and driving thru namibia

This was what instantly came to my mind when driving the highway to the coast. The weather (right now - winter), the surrounding view, straight road for miles and miles. Must be amazing.

This is a slow boqrd you fricking homosexual. Thread's been up for less than 3 hours.

I only have WiFi in my accommodation.

How is English proficiency among the general population? Did you need any shots or drugs for African diseases ?

And I've heard that Namibia is ranked highly as a stable reasonably developed nation in Africa - why ? is it better than south africa?

Not OP but Namibia was part of South Africa until the end of apartheid. So it has legacy infrastructure built by an advanced society. However, its sparsely populated unlike South Africa is so there's fewer social problems related to overpopulation.

      >African diseases
      No not even Covid.

      >reasonably developed
It is. Probably from the combination of being a german colony and the major namibia ethnicity - the oshiwambos- being actually smart and kind people. Also Christianity *cough* *cough*.

      >english
simple english will get you anywhere, more advanced english is obsolete

This land is just so vast. Like in the middle of Windhoek you will find yourself driving 5 Minutes through open land and then reach another white people district with a huge ass mall. Pic related is the city center on a saturday.

Who doesn't? I love seeing the surprise from American blacks, if they can even figure out how to get a passport, that no one worships them outside of America.

Is there much in the way of work opportunities there for foreigners? I've heard houses are cheap to buy there, could be comfy.

What is there to do ther? National parks? Will public transport get you there? Or need to rent car? Hire guides?

      Anonymous

The national parks are worth visiting, the scenery in itself is worth it, there's historical sites too etc; there's quite a bit to do and see, but distances are huge and there's little to no public transport going to major tourist attractions. You'll have to get your own means of transport or book a tour/hire a guide with a vehicle.

Speaking of money, what is actually the most affordable African country to visit, without compromising too much on safety?

            Anonymous

That's the funny part. Africa is expensive to visit and the further into the shit of it you get, the more expensive it is. This is due to high costs of transpiration (flying) in a country with poor infrastructure and the scarcity of safe hotels and restaurants and having to hire 4x4 transportation.

The least expensive place to visit in Africa would probably be somewhere like Morocco which is safe for budget travel and cheap to get there from europe. You usually have to go through europe (or Dubai) to reach sub saharan africa anyway.

If you travel with someone, you can pull it off with a budget of €50-70 a day, that'll get you a 4WD with rooftop tent and camping gear plus food, drinks, fuel, a camp spot plus admission charges for what you want to visit. Can be done cheaper though.
