I got offered my dream job in Tuson.

I hate the heat, whenever I drove through route 66 in that area for the first time I was astonished how desolate everything was irl.

Convince me to move. I'm really close to sending them an email saying nevermind. I hate the heat. I have 2 dogs and want more and a backyard..

If you don’t like heat you’re going to hate Tucson.
Tucson is kind of the armpit of Arizona anyways but if this is your dream job living in Tucson for a while and making money may be worth it

        >Convince me to move.
I don't think there's much that can be done to convince you. The heat is bad from like late May to late November and recently it's been humid too because of the monsoons. When the rains come, it's actually kind of cool because if the intensity.

Honestly, if it was pre-pandemic I'd recommend coming here because of the cost of living but since everyone flocked here during the pandemic housing costs are bad. I purchased my house for 120k and it's over doubled in price because of the inflation.

It's not all bad here though. There are some decent restaurants. If you like hiking then we have a ton of pretty decent trails.

        > I don't like Mexicans either the other position was in MA which I always wanted to live in so it kind of stings they r sending me to a hellish landscape..
We're near the border so Mexicans are unavoidable. If you live on the Northside of Tucson or get a place in Oro Valley. Is it Raytheon who's offering you work?

I'd say late October but the thing that gets me about AZ heat is how suddenly it starts and ends. It's like it goes from highs in the 50s to 99 degrees one day in the spring Marc then before Thanksgiving it's back to cold and windy shit. There's no transition.

            Anonymous

I have a feeling that this year the transition will be sooner, just because we've had a decent monsoon season, but I've noticed the last 6-7 years it's been pretty bad during the day until Thanksgiving. Evenings get nice though.

Lmao yes raytheon is offering me an engineering position, how did u know lol? It's my foot in the door for dealing with UFO shit.. That being said not worth it to live in the desert during global warming

            >Lmao yes raytheon is offering me an engineering position, how did u know lol?
Raytheon is pretty much the only big name, decent paying company in Tucson so it was common sense. I'd say, for that alone, I'd take the position. The opportunity to relocate isn't hard to come by working for them and I know they're pretty generous with raises.

That being said I fricking hate the heat and probably will send them a rejection email. Can you be more specific about how it sucks to be a engineer at raytheon? So far I loved all my jobs, i love electrical engineering and physics..

It's more about working with technology.. there is no lifestyle difference between 100k and 140k.. nothing r poverty wages with this inflation

OP, reading through the thread I was in a similar position before. I am glad I experienced it, but am glad to be out of Tucson. There is very little traffic on the main highway, but once you get off the highway prepare to hit every traffic light. Just check how long it takes to get somewhere on a map. The downtown isnt too bad, and in fact they were gentrifying it while I left. There are a lot of hiking and nature parks, so if you like that then itll be great. The parks are huge and you will see wildlife (also better be prrpared). The mountains are also there, so you can drive up the mountain and itll be like 30 degrees colder. There are "snowbirds" in Tucson, older people who live there part of they year and leave during the summer. That is also why insurance for cars is pricier than normal... The heat is awful in the summer days, like 110. But it cools down at night and is overall fine during fall/winter/spring. A lot of spanish speaking here, you will even see signs in spanish around the airport. I would say most or 50% of Tucson is hispanic, if I were to guess. There are some dangerous areas of Tucson at night though. Where you work I wouldnt want to live around that area. Prepare to drive 20 or 30+ minutes if you want to live somewhere safe. The job should pay very well, but unfortunately if it wasnt for the job and nice nature parks I wouldnt have been out of there day 1. It has its upsides, just need to understand if all the ups are worth it.
              >UFOs
I cant comment on that stuff, but if you are expecting to see aliens or something like that then you should probably go in a different career direction. You would probably be better off using telescopes and scouting the night sky, which also is very popular to do in Tucson since there is little light pollution at night (there is a law in place for it).

Why can't I live close to the Raythoen building? Issa ghetto?
As far as UFOs go I won't see shit in a telescope but it's been well documented that the US is tracking them through radar..

              Imagine believing in global warming.
              Get off this board, normie.

$100k puts you at the top of the Tucson economy. This is a brown town where most people work in Amazon warehouses or some shit. Everything will seem like its on sale compared to Colorado.

As far as climate I don't feel like the place is getting hotter (some of the hottest weather in AZ was in the 90s) but maybe lasting longer and its definitely getting more humid. The "dry heat" is becoming a meme because summers are muggy AF now. Then repeat. Colorado is getting dryer. This has implications for AZs water supply but if you're there short term I wouldn't worry.

Tucson is very spread out so you should have no problems finding a place with a yard for your dogs, even if its just dirt or sand. I have a friend with huskies they love the desert in the winter, they love running around in the cold sand. But in the summer it kinda sucks they can't go out much. You're close enough to still drive to the mountains in Colorado, and the beach in CA.

Raytheon down by the fairgrounds right? There's not much there and south Tucson is kinda ghetto well a lot of mexicans. They're better neighbors than blacks are though. The bougie areas are in the hills north of town.

Maybe in Colorado that 40k doesn't make much of a difference but 100k in Tucson alone is going to make you a top earner. And again, speaking as someone who's entire family works for the bomb factory, they're generous with raises/benefits/transfer opportunities. Even if you find you hate Tucson, Raytheon has other locations/projects back East you can always transfer to once you have some senority. When would you start working if you took the job? If you can, Colorado isn't far from Arizona - I'd come down and explore before you make a decision.

I think this Anon hits most of the points I would make [...]. You can definitely live in the area near the plant, but South Tucson is a mixed bag. There are nicer areas of it, but it's still really ghetto down there and honestly you're going to get more of what you want being further from the plant site. With the money you're making, you'd be able to live in the nicer areas in the Foothills. Really anywhere on the North/Northwest side of town is going to be better than South.

If get a place close to the I-10 and you really want a decent plot of land with a shit ton of space, you could always explore the Marana area. For some reason, we've been experiencing a huge growth in population outside of just the snowbird months (lots of transplants from California and Illinois for some reason), so you'll like be able to sell easy once you've outgrown your time here.

What these anons said. I was up near Marana and it was a pretty good place to live. Far drive though, and it may be overcrowded by now with all the development thats happening all over the country. Probably can find a good place there. I agree with that anon, if you have time might be worth checking it out in person yourself.
I again really don't think you should go into radar if you want to track aliens though. I imagine even if you do see a UFO, there's no way to tell what it is (hence the 'unidentified') and I highly doubt information on what it is will ever be disclosed to the radar team. Maybe I'm the ignorant one though, but just something to think about.

There's like four sites. Williams Center is in the middle of town and its not a bad neighborhood. There's the UA tech center near Vail which is also easy enough to live near, and then you have the stuff around the airport. You don't want to live near the airport because the south side is kind of shitty (its basically Mexico) and its an airport. It's the only part of town that's easy to get to on the freeway, though, so you have plenty of options in Marana or Vail. There's also one more I think but I can't remember where it is. The whole town is pretty drivable and everything is about a half hour away.

Oh, and living in Tucson is peak comfy. Everyone complaining about Tucson, mexicans, heat, or crime is fearposting. There are literally 8 buffer towns before the border that absorb all the crime and South Tucson is the last stop. Anyone working at DM and Raytheon doesn't even have to deal with South Tucson problems. Recommend living in east side of Tucson. Crime is literally nonexistent there. University of Arizona bawds are just normie cancer. The real hotties are the working-class townie zoomers in central and east. And upper class in Oro Valley. I recommend you vacation in San Diego at the peak of summer. It's all a win-win.

Route 66 is hundreds of miles from Tucson but Tucson is OK, I guess, as far as cities go. It's got a reputation for being "higher crime" than a lot of AZ but I think that's just b***hing that its more mexican culturally than the rest of AZ is.
    >there's good mexican food

It's a good 10 degrees cooler than Phoenix on any given day which means its barely tolerable.
    >100 instead of 110 can be huge
    >still hot from May through Halloween

Guessing you're involved with UofA somehow? That's there.
    >reputation for hot chicks

There's also hiking around the mountains, Saguaro National Park, and in the winter the weather is really nice, like fall in the rest of the country. There's even a ski area (Mt. Lemmon) the furthest south one on this continent but the snow is shit.

You can even head over to Mexico, Puerto Penasco is a neat little town on the sea and its closer than California

White rural parts of AZ can be really bad too because everyone and their mom seems to do meth.

Take the job OP and do it for 2 years. Then you'll know if you like Arizona or not. Just beware living in the desert makes people crazy.

How many competing work place are in the area?
Take it from an old gay, if you want to make more money, don't expect to work at the same place and expect them to pay you what you're worth.
Every major pay increase I got was from either switching jobs or giving my current place the opportunity to match a competing offer.

    >Convince me to move
You acclimate, Tuscon has the gift of elevation to it where it gets cooler faster than phoenix. You'll have about 3 months of +100, and it cools rather quick as the sun sets there rain is far more common than phoenix. Most people complaining about the heat just don't realize how to dress appropriately, and dressing properly can change your entire definition of "hot".

Have a friend who hated heat and moved here for work, first month of 100+ he basically only really complained on the 110-115 days being stuck indoors. Now doesn't mind the tempatures and hardly comments on it and likes it better than the shitty winters and "spring this week winter next week and then oh yeah just shit weather".

    >I have 2 dogs and want more and a backyard..
Then have them, it's not hard.

Honestly unless you're working out doors or only plan on method of transportation being a bike, you'll hardly notice it. Well maybe if you're fat you'll complain.

    OP explain the ufo thing.

I thought you meant you were going to spend hours staring aimlessly at the desert sky.

    Is it something else?

Great place if you like to ride bikes, depending on where you live you should be able to commute thanks to the belt system. The Sonoran desert is pretty unique looking, especially in the spring. The city itself is pretty trashy, it's basically a rustbelt town in the desert and ASU girls are legendarily loose. The social work ones go to Tucson so they're a bit bleeding heart. I used to live close to Vail and it felt pretty far out away from civilization. The resort areas are actually pretty nice, go for a drive near Hacienda del Sol and up through the Oro Valley, there's definitely money out there.

If it is your dream job, Tucson is an okay trade-off.
The heat is really only a problem from May through June. Even July and August are pretty mellow (relatively speaking) and you do have Mt. Lemmon, which is 9100 feet tall and pretty accessible. The reason Mt. Lemmon matters is, if you are going outside when it is hot, you might as well go to the top of the mountain. Then it's pretty good.
Also, it's not that hot before about 9:00 AM and after sunset. If you have a dog, those are the times to take it outside.

June is the worst month in AZ for real. Even August isn't that bad because of the monsoon and knowing the heat is going to get better soon.

Also if you get up early in the morning and do things outside then the temperature of is tolerable.
