I have a job in London in May through August. The work has some breaks in it while other contractors finish their part. What should I do while I'm there during breaks?
An anon in a thread a while back said to drive to Wales, is that cool? Or maybe France for the weekend? (Would I take the train for that?) What's some stuff to do if London is your hub?

You can get the Eurostar from London and go to Disneyland Paris should you want to (will no longer go direct but it's just a single train change. Other than that you've got British theme parks like Thorpe Park (white knuckle park), Chessington (family park), Alton Towers (best park in the UK but a significant drive from London)
You can go to Brighton seaside for a day trip, go to the peak district in Staffordshire for hiking/cycling or just visiting a bunch of picturesque towns and villages.
Loads of castles and stately homes. Hampton Court Palace is a must if you've any interest in the Tudors, Bodium castle is probably the best example of classic medieval castles around (lots of castles in the UK but most get semi-transformed into stately homes and palaces over the centuries).
Can go to Blackpool to experience the ultimate tacky "working class" holiday destination. If you go peak times there'll be shitloads of stag parties filled with British slags.

If I just want to go to Paris, what train would I take? I'm from Florida so I've had plenty of Disney in my life.

I used to prefer going from Paddington to Cardiff on the train than driving down that miserable motorway and getting charged driving back out. Horrible toilets at Fleet Services, brain dead West Country drivers, bar on the buffet car open nice and early, train vs driving is a no brainer.

London will keep you busy enough, lots to see there, when you get sick of the crowds visit one of the national parks, castles etc. And like others said you can also take the eurostar or a flight and visit mainland europe. Wales I haven't been to but I've heard they're beautiful, but the drive there won't be easy, British country roads are super narrow and fast, often with dry stone walls on each side, feels like playing WRC but when you crash you're fricked for real.

My country most places have pretty large highways everywhere. Even rural places.
There'll be motorways and dual carriageways to most of Wales. You'll almost certainly have to spend some time driving on winding A-roads and if you're visiting rural parts, you may get taken down narrow single lane roads.
Two things to remember: lots of country roads are national limit but that's mostly because they can't be bothered to keep changing the limits. If you drive down a single lane narrow road at 70mph you'll obviously have a bad time (drive to your visibility on the road, if you are freaking out and driving very slowly that's also fine but pull over occasionally to let people pass).
The other is that there are average speed cameras on some major roads in Wales. Obey those and watch out for c**t HGV drivers who set their GPS calibrated Cruise control to "speed limit +1mph" and tailgate anyone in front of them sticking to the limit, trying to accelerate away from those is a good way to get a ticket, just pull in and let them be c**ts to someone else.
Thanks. I drove through the Cottswalds once and it was like that. Good to know about the cameras. It's stick to the actual limit not an American "the limit plus 9" sort of thing?
