I grew up there. I live abroad now but I'm afraid to say that when I left somebody took my spot so the country remains full and you can't get in sadly.

Speaking as an NZ who lives in aus, we all love NZ and wish to move back to our home and always be loyal to nz, but incentives are better here so what can you do?

If I got 80% of what I get here in aus, back in nz, I'd move back home.

        >moving back to an isolated island 8 hours away from the nearest human settlement with no agricultural independence
homesickness is a mental illness and so is being a NZigger

ausgay that moved to NZ here
honestly I moved to NZ cuz it's much less autistic than Australia when it comes to paperwork and beauacracy, not to mention it's nice having cool 26c summers instead of 40c winters in Aus

considering to do the same, but only because I might have found a cool job here.

worst case scenario you come back after ~1-2 year with some new experience.

I went out to NZ from England on a one year visa with my GF in 2019. We started in Auckland and bought a car which we drove south to Queenstown and settled.

I spent sixteen months there overall, through the first year of Covid (no better place to be imo) that resulted in us getting to see all of the major sights around there free of the usual tourist hordes.

It was overall one the greatest experiences of my life - definitely recommend.

did you end up marrying that gf? A couple I worked with at a kiwi farm from the UK are now married. Maybe that's ya'll.

I didn't enjoy NZ, but I wasn't in the best mental state at the time either. Plus they are hard to make friends with and like socially broken. If I'd been with a gf or something I bet it wouldve been much more enjoyable.

NZ is so stunningly beautiful, if only their government weren't so completely moronic it would be a great place to settle and get away from it all.

Lol I'm an actual NZer, born here lived here 30 years. Just look at this thread, British expats that lived in queenstown, various other foreigners etc.

I guess NZ isn't special in the sense that if you're not a local you're a foreigner but I have always had the sense that unless you're really born and grew up here, you're never going to actually grasp this country. You'll always just be a foreigner looking in. Hell most of NZ doesn't even consider queenstown to be am actual part of the country lol. It's like a quarantine area for rich euro/brit tourists and American bunkers. I dont know any kiwi that actually was born and grew up in queenstown. Like literally, never in my life.

I think we have like a sort of northern European autistic thing going on where maybe you have a few drinks with your workmates when you come here on your foreign visa, but good fricking luck making actual friends with new zealanders lol.

I've also lived here for the last 30 years and never met anyone that's 'from' Queenstown

NZ is alright I guess. If I didn't have a GF and property I would probably be trying to find work overseas

What's it like living there? My parents are both kiwis but decided to go live in the miserable UK before having me and with the absolute state of this country I'm considering a move. Whenever they talk about NZ they've clearly got rose-tinted glasses on, what's actually good about NZ and what's shit?
