Own a car, live alone, frequent travel, max out my various savings accounts, good health insurance, currently saving for down payment on a house within the next 5 years. There are many opportunities in Canada, both for blue and white collar work, and you don't need to earn a fortune to live here.

Not counting restaurants, I spend about $70 a week. Before I started lifting last month I ate less and spent under $50 a week. Buy and cook in bulk, don't waste food, and plan your meals out based on what's on sale.

You're right I won't be able to afford a home in Toronto on my single income, but I am planning to move somewhere else within the GTHA. I have been looking at places and found a few I would consider and could afford the down-payment on right now, but the monthly mortgage would cut into my travel and leisure expenses and that's not a sacrifice I don't want to make yet. Also I want to make take full advantage of the new FHSA, which is why I have a 5 year timeline.
An additional note regarding housing - I consider real estate to be something you only need if you are starting a family, and I don't expect most single guys like me to be able to afford it. The only reason I can consider it is because my income is moderately high. As soon as you add a second income to your family real estate becomes significantly more affordable.

I definitely could make a lot more money in the states and have considered it, but all my friends and family are in Toronto and they are far more important than money. I am satisfied with my current life, and honestly I think that it will get even better from here on.
