I'm doing a giant eastern Europe trip and in considering ending it with a trip through the Baltic capitals. Have any anons here been to these places? What'd you think? I know they are small but the architecture looks really pretty. Do they have a nightlife, and/or fun hostels?
Is there places outside the capitals worth visiting?

I did a nice 10 day trip Kaunus - Vilnius - Riga - Tallin - Helsinki. Would recommend. The capitals all had very good nightlife.

I did that last year from Helsinki to Vilnius for three weeks.
      - Helsinki is a very cool city with relaxed and easy day trips through Finnish rail.
      - Tallinn is the most tourist of the three Baltic capitals.
      - All three Baltic capitals have a lot of Soviet brutalist architecture left and you can spend one or two days exploring them
      - Narva is a good day trip from Tallinn to see how the Russian minority live
      - Tartu is a nice city to stay for two nights on your way to Riga
      - Riga is the best city for day trips with lots of castles, palaces and German Baltic history
      - Vilnius has great viewpoints. I recommend you take a day trip to Trakai and do a hot air balloon ride.
      - If you are into WWII history then try visiting Kaunas with the fort memorial and the Salaspils memorial close to Riga.
      - In the cities it is best to move around by escooter. You can also call cheap taxis with Bolt.

Nightlife wise I only went to bars and there are famous party hostels in all of those cities which were all fun and cheap. Helsinki has the most expensive night life, think 10 euros for a beer. I remember the Naughty Squirrel hostel being good.

      >Is there places outside the capitals worth visiting?

Not a lot. Some would argue not even the capitals are worth visiting.
I think the coolest Real Traveler™ destination is the Western shore of Lake Peipus. It's popated by Russian Old Believers. They fled from persecution in Russia proper centuries ago, unlike the Russians in Narva and Tallin who migrated there during Soviet times in an attempt at russification.
It's a cool traditional area very differe not from the rest of Estonia. You can even take a boat from Tartu, the country's second city, to the lake along Emajogu river.
In Lithuania, maybe check out the geographical midpoint of Europe not far from Vilnius. In the country's northeastern corner there's the Ignalina power plant where tours are offered. The local town Visaginas was only built during Soviet times for workers at the power plant and is almost entirely populated by Russians.

Thanks for your responses anons. What I'm thinking about doing is 4 nights in each capital, with one day being a day trip in each place. I don't have time to explore more of Finland, but I'd love to take the ferry to Helsinki for a day trip

Basically by lurking at capitals you missed 99.9% of stuff. Nature and smaller cities in west parts at least in Lithuania/Latvia. Courland extra dope for old germanic places plus nice coastline. Apart from Rigas old town capitals are shitholes of high degree

Who do I trust? I need to find a middle ground, perhaps 2 day trips from each capital and a day to explore them, are they small enough for that?

i live in tallinn, been to latvia
if you really like architecture, then you can spend 1-2 days in tallinn and riga, tallinn wasn't bombed that much during the ww2 because nobody cared about this shithole and so the old town is authentically medieval
nightlife exists, but it is nothing compared to berlin or amsterdam, there are little bars and small nightclubs where redneck estonians and gopnik russians get drunk and fight
    weather is shit
i'd suggest choosing a different destination, personally i'd avoid all butthurt belt countries

        get fricked lol
in no world i'm giving up my secret locations to you normies
in Lithuania i know an abandoned soviet bunker with everything left inside (gas masks, russian infographics...) i'm not revealing the location not even under torture
in Latvia there's a pagan temple on an island on a river reachable only via kayak, althou it's not a secret you can easily find it

tldr; go to the big city centers and take photos at old buildings with your chinese phone. do not step outside the tourist containment zone
