I'm going to Georgia next month and I'm thinking would it be a good idea to visit Abkhazia on the same trip. I'm finding some conflicting information about the general level of safety there so I'm wondering will I get mugged there or not for being a westoid. Anyone here who been there?
It's Abkhazia not Chicago or Detroit.
>It's Abkhazia
The fuck should this tell me? It is a small separatist plot of land with 250 000k inhabitants in the middle of nowhere. Most people dont even know of its existance so understandably, I dont know anything about the place either, just that some travel bloggers said its poor and theres a risk of getting mugged, hence this thread. So what information should I gather from the fact that its Abkhazia?
This is a serious travel board maybe your mom's facebook cruise group is more on your level
>Serious travel board
Lmao
What does that book have to do with Abkhazia? I've been intending to read that book anyways so maybe I'll take it with me and read there.
It is set in Abkhazia and the Caucasus (and Crimea), the narrator travels through and describes the nature and people. The idea/mental picture Russians have of the Caucasus and Black Sea coast and their role within it is highly shaped by the book. It's a good read too, like a mix of various novels, some of them are really funny.
Getting mugged is 100% a possibility epic SighSee troll
I've got family who travelled through Abkhazia by car, they were not impressed by the hospitality or agreeableness of the people there. It is poor, corrupt, run by criminals just like Kosovo, police and security can make your stay uncomfortable if they dislike you - I'm sure there are plenty of nice people there if you are extrovert enough to get in contact with them. I have no idea about visa requirements or if it's even possible to enter from Georgia. I reckon the only reason you want to go is for the mysteriousness or because you find the territorial conflict interesting.
Anyway you should read A Hero of Our Time by Lermontov if you do decide to go there, and make a thread on here afterwards.
Go. Far better beaches than the ones in Adjara-Georgia
If you’re too much of a bitch for that please don’t go at all
North caucasians are absolute subhuman animals. Don’t be surprised if they cut your head cut off and play soccer with it
surprises are what we travel for
The ones of Nakh-Dagestani stock are indeed complete ISIS-tier savages, especially Chechens. The Abkhaz-Adyghe ones look civilized in comparison (although that's not saying much).
Finns aren't any more welcome in those territories than Russians in Poland or Czechia.
>Finns aren't any more welcome in those territories than Russians in Poland or Czechia.
Interesting. I'd expect to find some bond still existing between them and Finland unless they're all fully russified by now.
> He doesn't know how ruslets are dealing with local populace after annexation
live in Georgia. Abkhazia is generally fine if you're alright.. if you're a yank, tone yourself down a bit - don't look like a tourist, don't look rich. A bit of conversational Russian will go a long way
I guess I'll be going there then. Thankfully I am a finn and not a yank so being nondescript and staring at my shoes comes to me naturally.
there's a catch though, you can't really enter abkhazia through georgia unless you use some shady ways and if you enter through russia you will literally be banned from entering georgia forever, so yeah think abt it
Georgia isn’t worth visiting so being banned is fine. Literally just go to Armenia where the women are attractive, prices are lower, and there’s just as much culture if not more. Tbilisi is a woke hivemind trying to join the EU, but it’s really just a shithole painted over in LGBT colors with a small but vocal and obnoxious young crowd of fags
How so? I thougth you just need a visa and you are all good.
Well that would require me to go to R*ssia, so no thanks.
Just a bit east of Atlanta.
Seethe vatnik.
>vatnik
You’re replying to an American who’s spent years in that shithole but whatever you say anon
>you can't really enter abkhazia through georgia unless you use some shady ways
By "using shady ways" you mean applying for an Abkhazian visa and crossing one of the three official checkpoints?
Because if you do so and return back to Georgia that way you will have never officially left Georgia, meaning that they won't cause any problems, provided you didn't overstay your Georgian visa.
>being Finnish
>not going to R*ssia to retake Karelia or to liberate fellow Finnic people of Udmurtia, Mari El and others
Get off my sight, cowardly cuck.
Is that near Atlanta?
I'm unironically gonna be in Georgia next month & have had thoughts about venturing into Abkhazia as well. Are you travelling alone OP?
Yea I'm travelling alone and I'll be in Georgia from 9th to 22th.
Yea this is how I've understood it too.
Interesting, I'm going to be there in that window as well. I'm thinking of renting a car and wild camping so I'm not tied to any itinerary & can just go where the wind blows me. What is your rough plan?
I dont have any plans locked in yet, except that I want to spend 6 days hiking in northern Georgia. For the remaining days, I would be down to hit some places with an anon. I could pitch in for the car expenses too, but I'm pretty sure you can't cross the Georgia / Abkhazia border by car.
Oh I didn't know that about bringing a car across the border. Where have you read this? Could potentially leave the car somewhere for a few days if going to Sokhumi. Renting a car in Georgia is fairly cheap anyway.
How old are you?
>Where have you read this?
Pic rel
>How old are you?
26, you?
30. I don't drink though so I'm a bore if you're into partying.
it's just ok. I was there in march and april. too expensive for what it is. it's best for a couple days but it's comfy enough and convenient enough to live. 6.5/10
