I'll use Airbnb if I'm going on a trip with my toddler, if it's just my wife and I we get a hotel room.

But I do agree, the Airbnb ship seems to be sinking.

It used to be so good I used to use Airbnb in 2015. Back then it was really worth, I remember my guests showing me around even cooking me a meal for $60 per night. And then when I recently looked back they now charge extra for the meal, the prices are now tripple and they don't offer as much as they used to. I think for most AirBnBs it stopped being a way to earn a little money on the side now it's an actual job.

But I still book, mainly if I want a certain location, or i'm more comfortable living in an apartment than a hotel. (I used to live in Malaysia, when I'm in KL I like to book AIrbnb cos of the nostalgia)

I used it in Europe and thought it was amazing. Wife and I got a whole fully furnished apartment to ourselves for like $75 a night.

I've used it a couple times since in the USA to travel with my family and it's been mixed. The units we have stayed in have been nice, but they're strict with the rules and cleaning and more expensive than hotels in the area.

Maybe it's just better in Europe?

It's like Uber. The market catches up to these things and it stops being a side hustle for regular, honest people and becomes a primary income for a dedicated cabal of opportunistic grifters. The company itself couldn't give two fucks as long as they're making money, so they do nothing to abate it, and before you know it, these supposed "disruptors" are now even shadier and more of a ripoff than the industries they wanted to replace.
People are going back to hotels because of this and also because hotels are fighting back. They became more consumer friendly, dropped their prices, improved their rewards programs, fixed things like the always malfunctioning machines and shitty internet, and generally moved away from the "fuck you, already got your money" mentality.
The last 2 Airbnbs I stayed at had mice in them (and they were rated very well too). I've never had anything like that at a hotel. I'm not paying increasingly expensive prices to get that kind of shit.

      If you're not poor hotel.
If you're in your late teens / early 20s then you should hostel.
If youre over mid 20s and can't afford to hotel, you shouldn't really be travelling.

I fucking hate hotels. You stay in a 20x20 closet. You get a fridge large enough for 2 sodas. No washer dryer in the room. No kitchen if you want to cook something. No living room to stretch out on the couch and chill at the end of the day in front of the tv. You have people stomping on the floor above you and making noise in the hallways. The bathroom is always tiny. I fucking hate waiting for elevators. I hate having morons in the room next to me playing music at 4am. You get room service banging on your fucking door at 11 am every day if you try to sleep in. Why the fuck would that be better than a nice Airbnb? I'll take a nice Airbnb over a "nice" hotel every time. With that said, I don't travel to destinations with brown people. If I were in New Orleans or Chicago, I'd probably stay in a hotel to avoid brown skinned shenanigans.

Hostels are an absolute right of passage for proper travellers.
This means people on gap years or year long + trips. In your early 20s hostels are awesome, you're not rich enough to know what you're missing out on with fancy hotels. You also get the advantage of being able to meet other like minded travellers and bang thots which is also a big attraction to travelling. Only caveat is you're not allowed to stay in hostels in your own country. It's a bit like marrying your second cousin, some people do it but it's weird

The JW Marriot is $540/night for a weekday in Palm Springs for a king room that's a measly 390 square feet. An 800 square foot room there costs $1000/night.

For less than 700 a night on Airbnb you could get a 3 bedroom 3000 square foot villla with a private outdoor heated pool and spa in a gated neighborhood in Palm Springs.

        > Its simple, if you're poor Airbnb

I’m rich, and until recently used Airbnb all the time, because I usually travel with my family of four. Multiple bedrooms, multiple bathrooms, and a kitchen are close to must-haves when traveling with my wife and two kids. It’s not a question of price savings at all, although an apartment is sometimes a better deal than a hotel suite.

But Airbnb hasn’t been the only place to rent apartments for a long time now, and their model isn’t great for a lot of reasons.

Interesting, I also travel with my family - I wouldn't call myself rich but we are very comfortable and I would never consider an Airbnb for the exact reason you stated, who on earth when they're on holiday wants to cook for themselves? Unless you have children with extreme allergies who could die in foreign lands I find it odd to think anyone with money would actually go to the effort of going "self catering" ie having to go to the shops and cook your own meals. Literally only poor people from bong land do that when they travel

We don’t self-cater every meal; indeed, we eat at least one or two meals out every day when we travel. But being able to have breakfast without getting dressed first is a major part of our holiday routine, and we like to have dinner in at least some of the time. Maybe we cook, maybe we have some kind of takeaway, but it is easier and much more relaxing for us not to have to get the kids outside for absolutely every meal.

And yes, of course things like room service exist, but along with the fact that I can usually make something better, I don’t want to eat in my bedroom, and surprisingly few hotel suites have nice dining areas.

            Your mileage can certainly vary.

I also didn’t point out that, as far as shopping and cooking are concerned, I enjoy both of these activities. Foreign markets and bakeries, and sometimes even supermarkets, are fun for me, and I like to cook.

the fact that you have no idea why a family would need a kitchen on a vacation is proof that you don't have a family. lol. No parent on planet earth is taking kids out to a restaurant for 3 meals a day. If you ate out for 3 meals in Europe with kids, you'd be in restaurants for 10 hours a day. It takes 30 minutes just to get a glass of water in Italy. Most European hotels don't even offer 2 bedroom suites. You'd have to put your kids in a separate room. For a luxury hotel, you'd spend 2 grand a night at the Four Seasons. For a 2 week trip, you'd spend $28,000 for your 700 square foot room that's smaller than my college dorm. You'd have to be a real fucking rube to waste that much dough when you could stay in a luxury villa for $300 a night in pretty much any European city.

              Absolute smooth brain
I only have 1 kid and he's young so it makes it easier but we don't go to anywhere in Europe on a city break, again putting your words back on you, you clearly don't have kids - not till there teenage age would I do a city trip, they'd find it fucking boring, all our holidays are boomer beach vacations because, well, kids like playing on the beach and in the sea and not looking around museums.
Also you get a suite / 2 bed suite with some sort of balcony every where you go, doesn't need to cost 28k, we go away at least twice a year, always 5* and it's never more than about £1k a night for accommodation.

                >Each to their own I guess but you make it sounds like Airbnb is more convenient when it really isn't
You may feel differently when/if you have multiple children with whom you do not wish to share a room. Type of travel certainly makes a difference, though—sounds like you’re doing all-inclusive resort style trips, which we also did a couple of when ours were little, but we do a lot of European city trips nowadays, sometimes near beaches but usually not. I don’t walk around in flip-flops or shorts too often.
                >sorry rich bro - there's nothing rich about Airbnb,
Never implied there was, just pointed out that there’s nothing inherently poor about it, either.
                >hotels with Room, turndown and washing service is the only way forward essentially with kids

Totally agree about the space. If I spend 10 minutes in a hotel room, I get claustrophobic and want to leave. I love being able to stretch out and relax in comfy AIrbnb. I'm planning a guy's trip with 6 people to Austin Texas to eat BBQ,drink beer and float on the river for a couple days this summer. I found a brand new 7 bedroom mansion with a jacuzzi, a pool, huge private yard, pool table and a rooftop patio for 1k a night. It's a block from the Colorado River. We are going to fucking rage in that place. We're going to invite every chick we see to party with us. What hotel could compare to that?

Spending 14K for a hotel room is a total waste of money and just lazy. If you did like 5 minutes of research before you traveled, you wouldn't be wasting your money getting completely fleeced. There are other websites you can use to rent a place that aren't Airbnb.

I work in travel so I'm more aware than most about what accommodation options are available.
I work hard so when I go on holiday I want to stay in nice hotels with great restaurants, good amenities and room service. The idea of spending my vacation time in someone else's house, having to go to the shops and buy food and cook - basically everything I do when I'm not on vacation is not appealing to me in the slightest.

I was just in Zermatt Switzerland 2 weeks ago. Our friends stayed in a hotel and we stayed in an Airbnb. We both paid about $250 per night. You should have seen how small their room was in the hotel. Their room had just enough space for a bed, a small loveseat and a tiny desk. It was the size of a jail cell. Our Airbnb was a chalet with that was the entire first floor of a large building. We had a Jacuzzi tub, a full kitchen, a giant living room, 2 bedrooms, a separate outside area for our ski equipment and a balcony with a view. Staying in a hotel is for amateurs who don't know how to travel.

Airbnb has the best interface for searching out places. Chad knows to book direct with the host after window shopping on Airbnb as the host will split tax and fee savings.

srs hotels are good for a night or two where you’re not really doing anything other than sleeping in it

Only once did I have issue with the host moaning about cleanliness. The real reason why I stopped using Airbnb is the price... if I stay a month it's worth it, otherwise just get a local rental for much less. I always leave my rubbish behind and the place uncleaned.

The main advantage to Airbnb is traveling with a group of friends or your family. If you're traveling alone, sure, stay in a hotel. But I like to take group trips. In September, we rented this awesome luxury 4 bedroom cabin in Lake Tahoe on a golf course. We all got to stay in the same place. We set up our instruments in the living area and played metal all weekend. We ate out a couple of times in Tahoe and got some good meals, but grilling and drinking beer outside under the giant redwood trees at our AIrbnb was way more fun. It's a much better value too.

I feel there needs to be a bullying word for people who rely on siligarden gnome valley apps to tell them when to wipe their asses.

    For people who
    >use instacart instead of grocery shopping

    >use uber instead of calling a cab
    >use airbnb instead of a hotel

      >use instacart instead of grocery shopping
Convenient but yeah, generally for shopping food/clothes it's better to try it on yourself

      >use hookup apps instead of going to the bar/club
Times have changed and you're unironically more likely to meet a wife material on an app like Hinge rather than a club. Men who care about slaying as much as possible tend to just do both

      >use uber instead of calling a cab
uber is cheaper and you can pay through the app without having to mess with a sleazy cab driver who will try to scam you

      >use airbnb instead of a hotel

I'm not following your logic. Why is an Airbnb fundamentally different than a hotel? Or an uber different than a cab? What social interaction do you need or desire from a taxi driver that an uber can't provide? How is ordering delivery different than ordering from uber eats? A lot of places don't deliver, so uber eats is often the only way to get delivery. It sounds like your having a hard time adapting to new technologies and that it makes you angry. My grandpa is the same way. He's 85 years old.

        >use instacart instead of grocery shopping
Convenient but yeah, generally for shopping food/clothes it's better to try it on yourself

        >use hookup apps instead of going to the bar/club
Times have changed and you're unironically more likely to meet a wife material on an app like Hinge rather than a club. Men who care about slaying as much as possible tend to just do both

        >use uber instead of calling a cab
uber is cheaper and you can pay through the app without having to mess with a sleazy cab driver who will try to scam you

        >use airbnb instead of a hotel
The idea of airbnb is good because if you have a large group/family then it's more convenient and usually cheaper to have a house instead of a hotel

        >use uber eats instead of calling up a place and ordering delivery
Agree but it isn't much different since many restaurants will have an online order feature on their website that they prefer using

Sounds like you're just afraid of catching up with the modern world. It's your choice but don't get upset when you're inevitably get left behind

I don't know of anywhere that will let you book directly with the host and not go through the middle man.

If you've been to an airbnb and liked it, approach the host directly (in person) if you want to return or extend your stay. Ask if you can just rent the place from them and pay cash. This is especially common in 3rd world places.

So you haven't ever been outside of Europe/US huh

I'll go all out and really answer your questions. In a lot of cities in Europe, the most expensive hotels can't hold a candle to a good Airbnb. Budapest is one city where you really want to book an Airbnb. The Four Seasons hotel is $1400 a night for a 700 square foot room with essentially no extra amenities. You get a table and chairs. For less than $300 a night in Budapest you could stay in a 2 bedroom luxury apartment with a private jacuzzi, a sauna, washer dryer in unit, 2 full bathrooms, and a full kitchen. The other 3 bedroom unit in the photo has a grand piano, a balcony, full kitchen and looks amazing inside. It's just a better experience than staying in a sterile boring hotel and it's $300 per night to boot.

The problem is that if you're not fussy a cheap hotel or hostel experience is usually better in central European city than an Airbnb due to the fact that they're cheaper and have more public transport links. Basically if you're poor then hostel are better than airbnbs, if you're in the middle income hotels are safer for your budget. But then if you upper middle AirBnBs are a lot better until you get to luxury. Then why are you even staying in an Airbnb?

The guy earlier in the post explained it. The luxury Four Seasons hotel in Budapest is 1400 and it looks like a small shitty condo, just one medium sized room with nothing in it. Those Airbnbs in that photo look fucking amazing. I want to stay in the one with the piano. I could split it with 2 friends and we'd only pay 100 night. That's less than a shitty hotel.

None of you travel. I can tell because your opinion is anything other than "all forms of lodging at any price point are gay cancer aids and straight up highway robbery and suck to stay in"

I recently stayed in an Airbnb in Czesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic that was like the model of what an Airbnb should be. It was an entire building right on the main street. It had a keyless entry. The interior had medieval looking walls and wood beams with nice furniture. It had a balcony overlooking the river. The host left 2 bottles of wine, some local cheese and a couple bars of local chocolate bars out for us. The bed was comfy as shit. It had a private sauna, a piano, washer and a dryer, a full kitchen, big ass living area and there were bikes in the unit that we could use. He left us a note saying not worry about the trash and that he would take care of all the cleaning. We paid $112 a night after taxes and fees.

airbnb banned family members of political commentators they don't like. I'm never using them again. I'll search for open places, then contact them directly.

If you ever go to Yosemite National Park, that is definitely a place where you don't want to stay in a hotel. The rooms in the valley used to be affordable, but they're up to like 600 a night for a frumpy room at the Ahwahnee Hotel which is an absolute dump and with rooms that haven't been renovated in 40 years. But you can still rent an awesome 3 bedroom cabin right outside the park for less than 300 per night. We stayed in this one in December.

It's strange how the LARPers here think wealthy people live
The richest people (males) I know, if not on a business trip, will fly the cheapest flight, get the cheapest accomodations and eat at one/two dollar sign restaurants. They do so with their friends, family, etc
EXCEPT when their wife comes along and they have to succumb to her bitching and get a nicer place. Happens every time
Whereas the poorfags I know always stay in nice hotels, get direct flights and rent a car instead of usinf public transit

I know rich people because I work with them.
There are all sorts of rich people. However, the uttermost of them are not stingy on a few things such as flights, and public transit. Why, because money is worth more than gold so they usually take direct flights, and generally avoid public transit except in some countries like Japan, because they’re either slow/late/unsafe or all of these combined. If they hate driving, they get a private driver or they get a relative who enjoys driving; while when they do enjoy driving, well they do it themselves, because car rental is possibly the best mean of transportation in most countries. You can go anywhere and anytime.

I would say the most typical ones are those who are okay with anything, because money isn’t a restriction. They can start the day with some diarrhea inducing street food and end the day at the fanciest restaurant because why not.
I went on holiday with a very rich relative and it was like that, no restriction and we could do anything that looked fun, nice or cool.

"Luxury" hotels are for boomers who don't know any better. It's all branding. Your room at the Four Seasons is the size of a walk in closet. You spent a thousand dollars a night to show off like some moron with a Cadillac, or you're too retarded to know there are better options.

I worked for the marketing department for MGM. I got 2 nights for free in the penthouse on the top floor of the Bellagio in Vegas because a customer cancelled and the room was empty. At first glance, the room looked incredible. But When you looked closer, the illusion fades pretty quick. The hardwood floors were scuffed up. It smelled kind of musty. There were cracks in the stucco on the balcony. The furniture was uncomfortable. The artwork on the walls is all just generic prints. Customers shell out 10,000 a night minimum for that suite. It really wasn't nice. It's just a status thing and giant waste of money. And you don't get any kind of special service for staying in a 5 star resort. It's the same shit you can get in any hotel. You're just paying for the name.

    i love hotels and motels
i remember when airbnb first became popular, and when i was traveling with friends and family we started renting them because at the time they were actually a much better deal, but i really missed going to hotels.
I also really like the continental breakfast that some of them have
