Nobody cares how old you are in a hostel, provided you match the vibe and aren't a fricking weirdo. If you're 40 years old and chill, it's not weird. If you're 40 years old and are constantly trying to pick up 18-year-old girls and try to act 20 years younger, than yeah, it's fricking weird. If you own your age and have a half-interesting personality, nobody minds. The only significant limitation is that some younger travelers might be less interested in socializing with someone close to their parents' age.
However, I've met a lot of 30-40 year olds in hostel, it really isn't weird at all, especially in "boutique hostels" (i.e., nice properties that usually aren't keen on parties and crazy guests)

Hostels are the best place to pick up girls with daddy issues though. At 45, I still pick up 18-26 year olds there. The only people that think it's creepy are the jealous dudes that can't talk to women.
Lots of cryptoLARPers came here in the past few years, too.
Nobody is defending sex tourists--they're a cancer to the board. You are an idiot if you think there's anything wrong with solo travel, though. Nice bait.

This. I'm 40, and I use hostels merely as a cheap way to spend stay for the night if I'm at some other city and can't return on the same day. I don't larp as this cool young spirited dude or whatever. I keep to myself mostly. Just doing stuff on my laptop or reading something until I sleep. I'm polite to others but I'm not actively seeking out for contact. It's just a practical thing to me, and the people who are mostly younger seem to be okay with that. Most of the others of my age I see do pretty much the same.

there's ZERO wrong with this and it isn't weird unless you're a repressed american/british person. your americanism is really showing
14-16, Bit hard to get in but normally what hostels are meant for good life lessons and learn how to pick up women along with learning of the world for your good years
16-18, Prime age for hostal might need a slip from mum still but worth it she knows you need to live life
18-20, Golden age, will never hit the peak of your youth but old enough to legally buy beer and stay around any hostal you want
21-24, Last years you can enjoy this you may be able to shag a hag at this age but not guaranteed seriously consider this your retirement of this life style
25+, you fricked up you're just going to be seen as a pedo by everyone
Anything else is just wrong but the amount of americans who will cope at this are hilarious.
> Anything else is just wrong but the amount of americans who will cope at this are hilarious.
Interesting that you perceive Americans as most likely to defend older hostellers; I don’t use hostels anymore (less because I am old, although I am, more because I am usually traveling with my wife and/or kids; I also don’t like shared bathrooms and have non-LARP money, so I stay in hotels when traveling solo), but recall that gray-hairs I’ve encountered in hostels have almost without exception been Europeans. Like two sixty-year-old Dutch or Scandinavian women on a budget hiking holiday, or a little old married couple from Germany.
I agree with posters above that it has less to do with age than with behavior. Old dudes trying to party like/with teenagers can be pretty sad.
>Anything else is just wrong but the amount of americans who will cope at this are hilarious.
you literally sound like an american, or are brainwashed by their culture to actually think this
Younger European women wouldn't leave me alone in hostels when I was in my early 30s. Just be committed to your persona and have a social hobby like being able to play music or sing. By 30 you should have some sort of social skill.
The people coping are the scrawny and destitute 20 year old boys who realize they have nothing to offer a woman besides being youthful.
Anybody in a hostel is out for an adventure or at their wits end and vulnerable. This makes them prime candidate for fringe encounters or to follow their heart desire.

I never said older men can't pick up younger women. However, you will probably raise red flags if you're constantly trying to frick girls half your age. It's weird, and everybody knows it.
Obviously you can still do well for yourself if you're attractive or charismatic, you fricking low self-esteem homosexuals.
>hehe a 45-year-old man trying to constantly hang out with 20-year-olds is definitely not strange in most social contexts haha
note my use of the word "constantly" in the previous two posts, you fricking illiterate degenerate
To be honest a hostel is a special social context that is more forgiving than normal.
Age isn't much of a problem as long as you fit in the crowd.
People will flock to the boomer who tells interesting stories while avoiding the 21-year old creep that looks like he hasn't showered since he arrived in the previous hostel.

this anon gets it. You could be 60. But as long as you arent creepy, have confidence in yourself and bring some good story telling, you will be fine. Id go farther and say being the 21 year old gives you a steeper hill to climb since everyone will view you as "that 21 year old who is only here to try and bang as many hostel chicks as he can" The boomer will likely be viewed as non-threatening.
>However, you will probably raise red flags if you're constantly trying to frick girls half your age. It's weird, and everybody knows it.
red flags to who? strangers at a hostel you'll never meet again? to women your age who's opinions don't matter?
This is very true. I'll spend the first couple nights in a hostel to meet a cute younger girl, tell her im getting a nice airbnb for the next couple of nights and if she'd like to join, and spend the next few days fricking her brains out in comfort
I'm 35 and a cheap-ass so I have played with the idea of staying in a hostel, but the thought of hanging with smelly unkempt 20-ish guys and girls with dreadlocks is nauseating so I always end up with my own hotel room for myself even if I have to pay a bit more.
Just get a private room in a hostel.
You get the cost savings of staying in a hostel without the major drawback of having to spend the night in a room with strangers.

This. I did that in Latvia and Spain. I had to share the showers and toilets which is fine, but having my own room with a lock&key was worth the extra shekels. The best hostel I ever stayed in was in Scotland
>If you can't afford a hotel at 40, you fail at life.
My dad can but he doesn't want to because he's a cheapskate kek. He's 60 now. He spends nights at hostels occasionally on his hiking trips in Europe.
He doesn't hit at girls that could be his daughters in hostels but ends up talking to them anyway. Dad says it's always them who approach him first.

Do you know where you are, Mr. 2016gay?
Not him but I was in Palermo recently and stumbled upon this place too looking for accomodation. Go to booking, search for accomodation in Palermo and sort by cheapest options. It's called "open-minded adventure lgb hostel for flirting" or something ridiculous like that.
tl;dr it's not a hostel. It's basically the host's flat. He's a sex offender trying to advertise his place as a hostel with particularly cheap rates for women hoping to get "opportunities". He walks around naked in his house. He also hates trans people.
An old review on google maps reveals his place used to be a swinger club.

This board used to be somewhat neurotypical and the coomers were actually traveling. A bunch of fricking loser robot9ks found this board and now shit it up with moronic garbage about how you no women will want to frick if you’re over 25
37 here, i've replaced hostels with cheap airbnb's.
seriously I can't deal with the fact that some idiot could steal my shit when I'm asleep.
it's about the same price, but there is no social. last time I went to a hostel the kids were still friendly and I was friedly to them, but in an arbnb you're just alone .
I pretty much wasn't allowed to leave the state till my dad died and while I have been to a few hostels in it, I hope they are fine with 45yos overseas.
I have those and I still travel. Being a teenager without money and traveling is miserable, you always have to worry about having enough budget. Now I don't care what things cost. Also it's easier to meet girls in hostels as an older guy. Going to a bar is less effective since that's where older women go.
>at 40 you should have wife and children
i agree, more shacklebound people means more room for me in facilities meant for rest and recreation >a successful career
if you weren't well off by age 20 and you can't provide any scientific, artistic or societal contributions to the world after age 60, or if you think you have nothing new to do after age 40, you're ngmi
>implying you'll see other people at the hostel
Most hostels I've been to were almost completely empty. The exception was one cheap shithole in Berlin where you paid for a mattress on the floor. The closest I got to making a friend at a Dresden hostel where I walked in and found a gun and some israeliteelry sitting on the table. After a while some Swiss guy showed up and struck up a conversation with me. He seemed to appreciate that I hadn't helped myself to the gun and the israeliteelry. He told me about his business in semiprecious israeliteelry and old coins.
Serious question to you hostel bros, why the actual frick do you do it?
>liberal zoomers policing your every word >sleeping with 10+ people always so much noise >no hair dryer >everyone stinks >always have to watch nobody has stolen your things >even if you do pull, what? just have shit sex on a shitty single bed in a crowded room
vs
going out and pulling a local and bringing them back to your nice private hotel to coom them with no worries in the world.
Literally the only pro is you save a little bit of money, but if you aren't in NYC or London legit just stop being poor.

My experiences with hostels are pretty bag, lots of shitskins tend to be there or some disgusting leftie tatted up bleached hair degenerates.
Once i was alone in a room some couple came in and i heard the guy say "i just have issues with solo travellers okay" to the girl, i just ignored it. Anyways they stayed just for 1 night and that night they woke me up with their fricking, i was so deep in the sleep and woke up to some sea- induced( it was a seaside city so) vertex- like fever half- dream blur and saw them fricking. They both looked at me and then i just went back to sleep. Weird.
Other time i was roomie with some scot, the most based person i ever met while traveling.
Im 27 now and i rly dont wanna go to hostels anymore, i really value my privacy and peace
We don't have to sleep in hostels. We do it because we can, mainly to socialize. And we can afford a private room, to which we then invite a 20 year old girl traveller for the night.
Stayed in a hostel in Amsterdam when I was 35 and they put me in a dorm with all 15 year old girls. Was expecting Chris Hansen to walk in tell me to have a seat.
I'd say 25 should be the cutoff age for ANY hostel. Usually people who stay in hostels do it to meet people and be able to afford to "hOLiDaY".
Hostel dwellers are MOSTLY the types who pay for tour groups, excursions, and are total NPCs. The rest are drugged hippies looking to pseudo-rape and steal from NPCs. Unironically the hippies are always the oldest creepy fricks (male or female) in the entire hostel.
If a 30+ year-old (male or female) is staying in a hostel assume they are the fricking lowest forms of life you will ever come in contact with on your travels and avoid at all costs.
I've worked in a few hostels and I've seen a fair amount of older people. If anything, men have it better because almost all the older women were creepy hippy types. One was seething at me for not boiling the water in the kettle and then putting it in the pot to save muh electricity and planet. Not even kidding lol. But most older people are fine. It only gets weird when they act creepy. I've seen older people hang out and even go to pubs with people in their 20's. It's only weird if you act like a creep. I mean if you are asking if 40 is too old to frick some moronic girls in a hostel, probably yeah, although if you look enough you'll find one with some screws loose that will probably frick you in the shower cabin. But then ask yourself why are you spending so much time, money and effort fricking some hostel girls when you could rent a room and pay for a 8/10 prostitute that will vacuum suck your dick and let you bareback her butthole hard.
And, by the by, I've literally never heard of "age limits". Maybe in a party hostel, but you'd have to be moronic to stay in places like that as there's unironically more dudes there than in a normal hostel and you are going to be swamped by complete garbage chavs and ugly women. Half of the times hot women staying in normal hostels have some sort of issues, and sticking your dick in crazy is unironically the best way to have amazing sex and easy access to pussy, but it carries its own risks. Personally I love girls with issues because for whatever reason they all can frick really well. It's the stable, normal girls who are OK, but not a great frick.
enough ranting, just writing to say this entire thread is completely fricking moronic
>and pay for a 8/10 prostitute that will vacuum suck your dick and let you bareback her butthole hard.
because their busted 25+ year old hookers who have sex with 3 men a day for money?
Ok so meeting girls who seem to be interested is easy enough in hostels, but they're almost always travelling in pairs, one time I even met some hot german twins in a hostel. How am I supposed to navigate fricking one of them? I'm not the kind of guy who likes flirting in front of other people.
Get a wingman.
This needs no planning at all. You can easily drag any other dude that walks by (lika a room-mate) into the talk.
You then focus on the girl you want. Her girlfriend/twin is distracted and you get a good chat.
Even if the 'wingman' is a moron, that can be good for you. Just keep it together and you look even better in comparison.
frick them both
I fricked one german girl (kinda -- was pretty limp-dicked sadly because reasons) while her two travel buddies were asleep in the same room after playing drinking games with one. If one of them wasn't sick i'd probably have been gangbanged by them. German girls are scary if you speak german and know some old memes from TF2.
no
the coolest dude I met in a hostel was a middle age canadian cement contractor who got fed up with leafland and took a multi month trip through south america with his wife
Hell no, most people staying at hostels (both men and women) have daddy issues to the extreme degree since anyone so poor that they have to resort to hostel "accommodations" probably is poor and didn't have a father around. Textbook cases there.
The only people I met is when we were staying at a "guest house" sort of thing with a common area. Since then, it's just been big building private airbnbs. We don't really go out much either
recenly stayed in a mixed hostel and shared a bunk with a latina who wouldn't stop brapping. i couldn't sleep properly because of the constant brap smell it was that bad
Yes, hostels are targeted at young people who want to save money although I have seen a few old men and women (50+ years old) during my stays.
By that age, you should be wealthy enough to stay in a 3 star hotel at the very least, even a 2 star hotel is better tbh than any hostel. Privacy is gold.
not if you're german
Lold. Literally every hostel I've ever stayed at was full of young people(from around the world) and middle aged Germans.

This board used to be somewhat neurotypical and the coomers were actually traveling. A bunch of fricking loser robot9ks found this board and now shit it up with moronic garbage about how you no women will want to frick if you’re over 25
No women wanted to frick me when I was under 25 either
Yes they usually have age limits also
hostel is directly translated to inn for youth for many languages
Yes it's called youth hostel in my country. I believe the age limit was 26 or so.
ITT: actual 40 year old men lmao
you'll get there one day junior
Don't know where a fella can get a drink around here do ya, bud?
I'm mowing the air, Rand! I'm mowin the air!
You pissed yourself, Mr. Lahey
I pretty much wasn't allowed to leave the state till my dad died and while I have been to a few hostels in it, I hope they are fine with 45yos overseas.
43 year old German here and I banged a 21 year old American bawd I shared a hostel with.
based kraut boomer, your women are also notorious albiet ugly hostel slam pigs
That is all women
at 40 you should have a wife and children a successful career not larping as a teenager lol
I have those and I still travel. Being a teenager without money and traveling is miserable, you always have to worry about having enough budget. Now I don't care what things cost. Also it's easier to meet girls in hostels as an older guy. Going to a bar is less effective since that's where older women go.
>at 40 you should have wife and children
i agree, more shacklebound people means more room for me in facilities meant for rest and recreation
>a successful career
if you weren't well off by age 20 and you can't provide any scientific, artistic or societal contributions to the world after age 60, or if you think you have nothing new to do after age 40, you're ngmi
>LeT mE teLL yOu hOw YoU sHouLd LiVe
You're some snot nosed punk eh. I creampied 20 18 year olds before covid hit, suck my dick. Youre probably a roastie too
You sound insecure
Always stay where it's cheapest
>implying you'll see other people at the hostel
Most hostels I've been to were almost completely empty. The exception was one cheap shithole in Berlin where you paid for a mattress on the floor. The closest I got to making a friend at a Dresden hostel where I walked in and found a gun and some israeliteelry sitting on the table. After a while some Swiss guy showed up and struck up a conversation with me. He seemed to appreciate that I hadn't helped myself to the gun and the israeliteelry. He told me about his business in semiprecious israeliteelry and old coins.
Just go to a hostel with a bar dude. There people will be socializing and gathering.
>hostel with a bar
Sounds expensive
The hostel should smell faintly of disinfectant and be quiet at all times. Lights should generally be kept off.
Serious question to you hostel bros, why the actual frick do you do it?
>liberal zoomers policing your every word
>sleeping with 10+ people always so much noise
>no hair dryer
>everyone stinks
>always have to watch nobody has stolen your things
>even if you do pull, what? just have shit sex on a shitty single bed in a crowded room
vs
going out and pulling a local and bringing them back to your nice private hotel to coom them with no worries in the world.
Literally the only pro is you save a little bit of money, but if you aren't in NYC or London legit just stop being poor.
zoomers policing your every word
I have nothing to these people to say, what's to police
with 10+ people always so much noise
I snore like a motherfricker, if anything the noise comes from me
>>no hair dryer
I'm bald homie... BALD
stinks
I stink the most
have to watch nobody has stolen your things
That's why I keep my smartphone between my buttcheeks
>>even if you do pull, what? just have shit sex on a shitty single bed in a crowded room

If you don't have a thread of dignity, you can stay at a slumstel at any age
This, there are losers of all ages, it's just that most people either get their shit together at some point or completely lose it and stop travelling.
JFL why are you staying at a hostel at 40? You do realize it’s a place for people in their 20s to hang out and have sex? You will be seen as a creep.
you're american and know nothing of europe or the rest of the world
it's a hostel not a brothel
It depends on a hostel. Party hostel? Yep you're too old. And why would you want to stay there anyway.
Any other hostel it's fine.
You should avoid party hostels regardless of age. It attracts only the chav class people, and you won't get any sleep because it's way too loud.
By 40 you should have a proper career and shouldn't have to sleep in hostels like a poorgay with no standards
We don't have to sleep in hostels. We do it because we can, mainly to socialize. And we can afford a private room, to which we then invite a 20 year old girl traveller for the night.
40 year old is the perfect age to creampie stupid, impressionable college girls. Buy them beer and give them multiple creampies the same night.
Stayed in a hostel in Amsterdam when I was 35 and they put me in a dorm with all 15 year old girls. Was expecting Chris Hansen to walk in tell me to have a seat.
Looks like you're gonna need give us a greentext cheif
that's probably legal in the netherlands
post greentexts now bro
>32
>going to Krakow this weekend
>staying at a self-described party hostel with an age limit of 35
what am I in for boys?
5 to 1 gender ratio, loud noises at the dorm, overpriced drinks, volunteer staff who doesn't know anything, loud ugly brits, etc.
>hostel with an age limit of 35
why do they have age limits? even in europe?
because of the image they want to project
Because people over 35 don't belong to hostel. Get a hotel or stay at home, grandpa.
This, you had your chance, if you failed at life you need to learn your place.
well how was it?
no. what's the downside? looking uncool to stupid european sissy boys?
No. Its cheap lodging.
Sounds like someone is bitter a 30 year old guy picked up the young hottie he was trying for.
I met a pretty based guy who was pushing 60's and walking across England following canals or some shit.
Be assertive. That involves making your interests clear. Most people will take the hint.
frick them both
I fricked one german girl (kinda -- was pretty limp-dicked sadly because reasons) while her two travel buddies were asleep in the same room after playing drinking games with one.
I'm 30 and traveling with my gf. I haven't met anyone in the 6 months we've been traveling. I'd stay at a hostel but we don't want to share a bathroom
The only people I met is when we were staying at a "guest house" sort of thing with a common area. Since then, it's just been big building private airbnbs. We don't really go out much either
recenly stayed in a mixed hostel and shared a bunk with a latina who wouldn't stop brapping. i couldn't sleep properly because of the constant brap smell it was that bad
bean farts are the worst
I bet you never hang around with pajeets
Yes, hostels are targeted at young people who want to save money although I have seen a few old men and women (50+ years old) during my stays.
By that age, you should be wealthy enough to stay in a 3 star hotel at the very least, even a 2 star hotel is better tbh than any hostel. Privacy is gold.
