No point ask this board, as half the regular posters are now SighSeelets LARPing as multimillionaire businesspeople.

Nobody cares how old you are in a hostel, provided you match the vibe and aren't a fricking weirdo. If you're 40 years old and chill, it's not weird. If you're 40 years old and are constantly trying to pick up 18-year-old girls and try to act 20 years younger, than yeah, it's fricking weird. If you own your age and have a half-interesting personality, nobody minds. The only significant limitation is that some younger travelers might be less interested in socializing with someone close to their parents' age.

However, I've met a lot of 30-40 year olds in hostel, it really isn't weird at all, especially in "boutique hostels" (i.e., nice properties that usually aren't keen on parties and crazy guests)

This. I'm 40, and I use hostels merely as a cheap way to spend stay for the night if I'm at some other city and can't return on the same day. I don't larp as this cool young spirited dude or whatever. I keep to myself mostly. Just doing stuff on my laptop or reading something until I sleep. I'm polite to others but I'm not actively seeking out for contact. It's just a practical thing to me, and the people who are mostly younger seem to be okay with that. Most of the others of my age I see do pretty much the same.

14-16, Bit hard to get in but normally what hostels are meant for good life lessons and learn how to pick up women along with learning of the world for your good years
16-18, Prime age for hostal might need a slip from mum still but worth it she knows you need to live life
18-20, Golden age, will never hit the peak of your youth but old enough to legally buy beer and stay around any hostal you want
21-24, Last years you can enjoy this you may be able to shag a hag at this age but not guaranteed seriously consider this your retirement of this life style
25+, you fricked up you're just going to be seen as a pedo by everyone

Interesting that you perceive Americans as most likely to defend older hostellers; I don’t use hostels anymore (less because I am old, although I am, more because I am usually traveling with my wife and/or kids; I also don’t like shared bathrooms and have non-LARP money, so I stay in hotels when traveling solo), but recall that gray-hairs I’ve encountered in hostels have almost without exception been Europeans. Like two sixty-year-old Dutch or Scandinavian women on a budget hiking holiday, or a little old married couple from Germany.

I agree with posters above that it has less to do with age than with behavior. Old dudes trying to party like/with teenagers can be pretty sad.

Younger European women wouldn't leave me alone in hostels when I was in my early 30s. Just be committed to your persona and have a social hobby like being able to play music or sing. By 30 you should have some sort of social skill.

The people coping are the scrawny and destitute 20 year old boys who realize they have nothing to offer a woman besides being youthful.

Anybody in a hostel is out for an adventure or at their wits end and vulnerable. This makes them prime candidate for fringe encounters or to follow their heart desire.

To be honest a hostel is a special social context that is more forgiving than normal.
Age isn't much of a problem as long as you fit in the crowd.
People will flock to the boomer who tells interesting stories while avoiding the 21-year old creep that looks like he hasn't showered since he arrived in the previous hostel.

this anon gets it. You could be 60. But as long as you arent creepy, have confidence in yourself and bring some good story telling, you will be fine. Id go farther and say being the 21 year old gives you a steeper hill to climb since everyone will view you as "that 21 year old who is only here to try and bang as many hostel chicks as he can" The boomer will likely be viewed as non-threatening.

This is very true. I'll spend the first couple nights in a hostel to meet a cute younger girl, tell her im getting a nice airbnb for the next couple of nights and if she'd like to join, and spend the next few days fricking her brains out in comfort

I'm 35 and a cheap-ass so I have played with the idea of staying in a hostel, but the thought of hanging with smelly unkempt 20-ish guys and girls with dreadlocks is nauseating so I always end up with my own hotel room for myself even if I have to pay a bit more.

Not him but I was in Palermo recently and stumbled upon this place too looking for accomodation. Go to booking, search for accomodation in Palermo and sort by cheapest options. It's called "open-minded adventure lgb hostel for flirting" or something ridiculous like that.
tl;dr it's not a hostel. It's basically the host's flat. He's a sex offender trying to advertise his place as a hostel with particularly cheap rates for women hoping to get "opportunities". He walks around naked in his house. He also hates trans people.
An old review on google maps reveals his place used to be a swinger club.

The closest I got to making a friend at a Dresden hostel where I walked in and found a gun and some israeliteelry sitting on the table. Any other hostel it's fine.

You should avoid party hostels regardless of age. It attracts only the chav class people, and you won't get any sleep because it's way too loud.

By 40 you should have a proper career and shouldn't have to sleep in hostels like a poorgay with no standards

We don't have to sleep in hostels. We do it because we can, mainly to socialize. And we can afford a private room, to which we then invite a 20 year old girl traveller for the night.

40 year old is the perfect age to creampie stupid, impressionable college girls. Buy them beer and give them multiple creampies the same night.

Stayed in a hostel in Amsterdam when I was 35 and they put me in a dorm with all 15 year old girls. Was expecting Chris Hansen to walk in tell me to have a seat.

5 to 1 gender ratio, loud noises at the dorm, overpriced drinks, volunteer staff who doesn't know anything, loud ugly brits, etc.

Because people over 35 don't belong to hostel. Get a hotel or stay at home, grandpa.

I'd say 25 should be the cutoff age for ANY hostel. Usually people who stay in hostels do it to meet people and be able to afford to "hOLiDaY".

Hostel dwellers are MOSTLY the types who pay for tour groups, excursions, and are total NPCs. The rest are drugged hippies looking to pseudo-rape and steal from NPCs. Unironically the hippies are always the oldest creepy fricks (male or female) in the entire hostel.

If a 30+ year-old (male or female) is staying in a hostel assume they are the fricking lowest forms of life you will ever come in contact with on your travels and avoid at all costs.

Sounds like someone is bitter a 30 year old guy picked up the young hottie he was trying for.

I've worked in a few hostels and I've seen a fair amount of older people. If anything, men have it better because almost all the older women were creepy hippy types. One was seething at me for not boiling the water in the kettle and then putting it in the pot to save muh electricity and planet. Not even kidding lol. But most older people are fine. It only gets weird when they act creepy. I've seen older people hang out and even go to pubs with people in their 20's. It's only weird if you act like a creep. I mean if you are asking if 40 is too old to frick some moronic girls in a hostel, probably yeah, although if you look enough you'll find one with some screws loose that will probably frick you in the shower cabin. But then ask yourself why are you spending so much time, money and effort fricking some hostel girls when you could rent a room and pay for a 8/10 prostitute that will vacuum suck your dick and let you bareback her butthole hard.

I met a pretty based guy who was pushing 60's and walking across England following canals or some shit.

And, by the by, I've literally never heard of "age limits". Maybe in a party hostel, but you'd have to be moronic to stay in places like that as there's unironically more dudes there than in a normal hostel and you are going to be swamped by complete garbage chavs and ugly women. Half of the times hot women staying in normal hostels have some sort of issues, and sticking your dick in crazy is unironically the best way to have amazing sex and easy access to pussy, but it carries its own risks. Personally I love girls with issues because for whatever reason they all can frick really well. It's the stable, normal girls who are OK, but not a great frick.

enough ranting, just writing to say this entire thread is completely fricking moronic

Ok so meeting girls who seem to be interested is easy enough in hostels, but they're almost always travelling in pairs, one time I even met some hot german twins in a hostel. How am I supposed to navigate fricking one of them? I'm not the kind of guy who likes flirting in front of other people.

      Get a wingman.
This needs no planning at all. You can easily drag any other dude that walks by (lika a room-mate) into the talk.
You then focus on the girl you want. Her girlfriend/twin is distracted and you get a good chat.
Even if the 'wingman' is a moron, that can be good for you. Just keep it together and you look even better in comparison.

Be assertive. That involves making your interests clear. Most people will take the hint.

      frick them both
I fricked one german girl (kinda -- was pretty limp-dicked sadly because reasons) while her two travel buddies were asleep in the same room after playing drinking games with one. If one of them wasn't sick i'd probably have been gangbanged by them. German girls are scary if you speak german and know some old memes from TF2.

Hell no, most people staying at hostels (both men and women) have daddy issues to the extreme degree since anyone so poor that they have to resort to hostel "accommodations" probably is poor and didn't have a father around. Textbook cases there.

I'm 30 and traveling with my gf. I haven't met anyone in the 6 months we've been traveling. I'd stay at a hostel but we don't want to share a bathroom

Yes, hostels are targeted at young people who want to save money although I have seen a few old men and women (50+ years old) during my stays.
By that age, you should be wealthy enough to stay in a 3 star hotel at the very least, even a 2 star hotel is better tbh than any hostel. Privacy is gold.
