Is an African safari worth it?

Is an African safari worth it? It's by far the most expensive thing on my bucket list and I just dont know how enjoyable it'd really be. I'm just an autistic who would like to see lions in the wild.

I feel like if you're gonna go all the way to Africa you should do more than just a safari.

Africa is rich in numerous cultures and has plenty of history from ancient to african to colonial and war history and such.
If that's not your vibe there's plenty of other things to see like Kilimanjaro, the Sahara, Victoria falls, etc.

I'm mostly only interested in the safari. I used to want to go see the great white sharks on the cape but supposedly they arent there anymore.

You got a particular safari you're interested in? Serengeti, okavango, kalahari...?

    >Is an African safari worth it?
My wife and I went on a fairly expensive private safari in Kenya that was worth every penny.
    >I just dont know how enjoyable it'd really be.
Well, it involves a lot of driving around and sitting in a Range Rover, so there’s likely to be at least a little bit of boredom. But the natural settings are mostly extremely beautiful and with a good guide and the right season you’re seldom if ever waiting very long for beasts to appear.

I took this shot about fifteen minutes after pulling into Masai Mara National Park in Kenya. I have several hundred photos taken in the space of less than an hour that range from action like this to adorable if slightly blood-spattered cubs.

That shot is actually from Tsavo West, not Masai Mara; it was taken immediately post-coitally (for Leo here, not me—he passed out like that immediately after rolling off a lioness).

It was fricking gruesome. Astounding, but horrifying. It wasn’t a quick kill.

Empathy is extremely high on the great chain of intelligence. Its why humans kill quick to end suffering.

      >Is an African safari worth it?
Absolutely, a good one feels a bit like Jurassic Park.

      >It's by far the most expensive thing on my bucket list and I just dont know how enjoyable it'd really be.
Etosha NP in Namibia. Costs a fraction of what a similar safari would cost in East or South Africa, and it's just as good.

So I'm guessing Kruger National Park is just a meme and I can see everything without having to go there?

Killer pictures, anon. It'd make my life to see something like that in person.

KNP is good for budget conscious. You dont necessarily have to spend thousands of your first world dollareuros (always welcome tho)

I was in Kenya(matter in fact Masai Mara and Laikipia). To be fair, I didn't pay for it but damn that was one of my best trips ever. Did saw all big five etc even flew a little plane, Out of Africa - styled like pic attached.

Definitely worth it. I went last summer and it was the best thing I experienced while traveling and I've been to a ton of places.

The scale of the Serengeti is incredible. If you time it and go during the Great Migration you can see some real Nat Geo shit in real life.

There's nothing like it, here's my suggestion:

Go in Tanzania, not Kenya. Go during the Great Migration season when the Mara River is at it's highest so you can see the Wildebeests migrate.

I saw the whole cast of Lion King up close. Seeing them in zoos is way different than seeing them out in nature. I saw a cheetah hang it's prey from a tree. I saw lions fricking each other from about 15 feet away. I saw dozen giraffes walk past our caravan. I saw thousands of wildebeests and zebras migrating. Incredible shit dude. I hope you go and have a great time.

Heard good things about Namibia and Tanzania.

    Kenya is good too.

South africa is fine if it wasn't for the fact that half the people there are your typical Black folk with a victim complex and an intrinsic urge to rape your girlfriend and behead you with a rusty knife for being white, i wouldn't recommend it. Friend who went there for a safari told me people just looked at him weird the entire time, gave him mad attitude and the experience was generally shit for the money spent.

All the other places the people were chill and friendly so that's that.

Safari was very worth it. Mind you accomodation and flight is only like halve the cost. The drives cost a shitload.
