Is it feasible to slip into the UK through Portsmouth for a day trip?

Is it feasible to slip into the UK through Portsmouth for a day trip? I have an EU residence permit, but that won't cut it for a eurostar or some such popular travel method - I'll need a silly visa with the whole rigamarole of getting one. But could someone, in principle, just take a ferry from Ouistreham to Portsmouth and spend a day on the isles? Anons who've taken this fantasy method of transport, how tight is border security there? Do they scrupulously check your documents, or just a cursory glance looking for "EU" written somewhere on your ID?

You don't even need to go the whole way. Get half way and the lifeguard will come and ship you back to a hotel that will probably provide you a breakfast before you slip off in the morning, all for free
      (I hate this country)

Unironically why would anyone want to visit the UK, it's basically America with shit nature, shittier food, and everything closes at 9 pm

Everying closing at 9pm is a thing in all of Europe, I'm still shocked myself. I just want to spend an evening surrounded by people who speak a language I can understand - I'm in France for a three month physics job and it's quite lonely, not least because of the fecking language barrier. Hell, I'll welcome the sight of a crooked-toothed wench, if she calls me a c**t instead of putain.

The EU visa took me two weeks of intense paperwork to get. Plus expenses for the fee, the useless medical checkup and visa center work. It sounds like you don't know what you're talking about.
