Depends on how long the flight is really. Having to pay for everything extra from snacks to baggage is a ripoff. I usually only bring a backpack on Spirit and fly on short domestic flights. Never flown them internationally.
the flight is fine. you should be able to fend for yourself pretty easily on flights less than ten hours-ish. after that you do kind of want some amenities like a meal or in-flight entertainment. I think Spirit's longest flights are to Peru, which is like six hours from IAH or MIA if memory serves. Easily doable.
the issue with Spirit is they don't fly. the exact rate at which they are not flying seems to depend on the day, but there are some days they basically don't fly at all and there is zero way of predicting what those days will. they are an operational disaster at planning crew rest. when you fly with them (or Frontier) you have to decide how much disruption you suffer if your flight is delayed multiple days. because that's how long you're gonna wait to get re-booked sometimes.
not only are UA, AA, delta, southwest all much less likely to cancel on you, they run more flights and can re-book you same day usually. its one of the few meaningful advantages to booking with the big carriers.
so: >if you're on a multi-month backpacking trip around south america?
fine. do it, the savings are probably worth since what's two days out of ninety if you're saving three hundred bucks on the flight. >if a delay will defeat your whole purpose for travel or you only have a week's vacation
use caution, because you will only get compensated the legal minimum and no effort will be made at all whatsoever to compensate you for the personal issues caused for their delay or the loss in vacation time (you will get flight credit if you b***h enough, but that's not worth it imho).
cont. for if you want a little context to what you made read online and that first post wasnt tl;dr
>spirit and frontier don't cancel more than other airlines! when they do its due to weather, they cant control the weather
somehow the FAA and FTC have allowed this behavior where spirit and frontier will cancel flights due to operational failures (crew rest, understaffing) but then offically log the cancellation as due to weather. do not be fooled by their numbers. >unbundling chicanery
is not an anti-consumer practice. you can take advantage of their policies and win. a good bag <30L will fit as a personal item, you do not need to buy a carry-on. spirit knows this and rewards you for being savvy, its a big reason TO use them, particularly on domestic routes where AA and UA are charging for carry-ons now too (less an issue international since nobody is charging for carry-ons intl except spirit).
i like spirit despite having been victimized by them before. i also like ryanair and frontier, even though they've cancelled on me too. its all a calculated risk anon, you are saving money but those savings always come at a cost somewhere else. if you get fricked over by spirit, frontier, ryanair, jetstar etc. its because you cheaped out, you can't be upset with anyone other than yourself since you should have known what you were getting into.
they're usually delayed by at least 30min especially if you have a flight later in the day. Usually lots of black people flying as well. I've flown mostly shorter flights with them but once from Lima to Florida and it was ok. Kinda funny to not get concessions on a 6hr flight but similar to WOW airlines if you remember them! RIP
I don't get it, I pay a bit more, Delta, Alaska, - no black people.
I fricking hate black people, and more I hate black kids.
They *can* be cheap with $30-50 fares non stop but that's it, any connection - frick no, and really anon that's why travel costs $$ because it's supposed to be convenient.
also, side topic. why does the US make you empty liquids right before boarding when leaving the 3rd world? Kinda annoying to not have water on a long flight.
reread the comment. they confiscate whatever you bring airside as well. they will not let you on the plane with any kind of beverage even an unopened water bottle
If your flight actually goes to it’s destination, and you don’t check any baggage, it’s not bad. May god have mercy on your soul when your flight does get canceled though, because then you’re fricked. At least American, United, and Delta can book you on a competitors flight when that happens
>At least American, United, and Delta can book you on a competitors flight when that happens
No they simply will book you on a partner program, they have contracts with eachother to do this.
Spirit is a budget airline, I can't imagine anyone doing more than I direct flight or carry on with these. For the price they are fine, just don't expect anything but a budget airline exp.
Hope you like sitting between Laquisha and Lafeesha, both blaring different songs at full blast on their phones for the entire trip.
One time I got stuck in customs behind a Spirit flight from DR. The entire fricking flight minus maybe 20 people was middle aged black women in wheelchairs after having the Brazilian buttlift or some other butt surgery.
This depends heavily on the city you're flying. A Spirit flight from Salt Lake City is a completely different experience than one from Chicago or Miami. Avoid anywhere with too many black and brown people.
I like the Big Front seat, and how it's only like an extra $40. I will mainlines would offer that, because I'd be content only having the larger seat, without all the other soft service that they charge out the nose for.
It was $185 each way for my upcoming work trip LAX-CLE. Still better to pay $100+$185 nonstop than $250 each way for a base economy ticket with a layover on American/United
The Big Front Seat is pretty based. I think it's more expensive on longer routes, though.
I'm gonna miss it when Frontier buys them. Their big seats have more legroom and not much else.

This is the biggest issue -- cancelled flights fricking over your trip.
Keep it to two hours and under and only bring a "personal item" and it's bearable. Otherwise, if you need a carryon, luggage, a seat that doesn't break your ass, legroom, etc... pretty much flying any other carrier is a better deal.
>be me >Just got done partying all night and am just coming off my x high >Friend drops me off at airport at like 3am >Get to plane an hour early which is normal >Apprently one flight attendant could not make it so they have to get another one >Took 6 hours >Also the seats were uncomfortable
Turned my afterglow into a shitty experience. Frick Spirit. May have flown with them once since then, never worth it. United and Jetblue are better.
Flown Spirit and other ULCCs a ton of times. Nothing wrong with any of them so long as you know what you're getting into. If you're looking to be comfy, spoiled and pampered then Spirit is not for you. If you're trying to get your ass the most amount of miles for the least amount of dollars then Spirit is your horse.

mostly just black people flights.

ostensibly terrorism but really its so you buy drinks airside

Genius, they can israelite you twice that way, sasuga US, best of the good goyim!

They're fine for short flights. The biggest problem is their melinated clientele.

Spirit is fine if you're flying less than 3 hours. More than 3 hours and it's extremely uncomfortable and often delayed
no

Their seats suck and they nickel and dime you for everything. But then the regular airlines do that too now.
