Is it Worth Visiting?

Is Iran a country worth visiting? I don't mean right now with the protests, but just in general. Any stories to share or recommendations of things there?

It is better than the media portrays it, people are generally very kind. We were looking for a restaurant with my bro, but it was closed. A guy asked us what are we looking for, then he invited us to his place to eat and his wife made us a meal (during ramadan) and they didnt accept money.
There is a lot to see too but keep in mind its a islamic dictatorship where they kill you for not wearing a burka properly so maybe put your money sonewhere else and not suppprt it.

Sounds cozy. Women have too many rights in western countries anyway. Hence the collapse.

      >Iran
      >burka
You're thinking of Afghanistan, in Iran they enforce headscarves but they're the loosest variant you can find in the muslim world.
Even in the strictest areas you'll see the faces of women, in most area even what hair color they have.

      >keep in mind its a islamic dictatorship where they kill you for not wearing a burka properly so maybe put your money sonewhere else and not suppprt it.
      moron.
First of all no one gives a shit about burkas, second of all, they wont kill anyone for not wearing a scarf, in 90% of cases they don't give a shit, and in the last 10% they will make them put on a scarf or take them to the police station and scold them if they refuse.
Saying they kill someone for not wearing a scarf is like saying "In america they will kill you for America for looking at police wrong"
Yeah, it has happened in freak incidents, as police violence does, but acting like its the norm or even common means you are a non thinking npc who falls for the most obvious propaganda narratives.

OP here, thanks for the comments, I had a question pop up in my head.

Since certain countries hassle you if you've visited certain countries, I was wondering. If I'm a native US citizen, and go to Iran with an EU passport, will I still get hassled when I return to the US, or would they not really have a way of knowing/caring since it was a different passport?

No, US citizens can visit places like Yemen and Afghanistan without problems returning, why would they give a frick if you went to Iran? Its the Iranian government you should be worried about if you are trying to avoid their rules around US visitors by using a different passport.

Very kind people, both the locals and other fellow turists. Also dirt cheap

similar experience here. We met a nice iranian couple from Isfahan while we were on Damavand. We met them again in Isfahan and they gave us around the city. We went to a restaurant, saw the three bridges. There was also this guy in Tabriz that helped us a lot to get to turkey (it took him the almost the whole day).

Way way better than what western media display of it, safest country in the middle east for both men and women (as long as you put a scarf on your head which isn't the end of the world if you are there only for a few weeeks).

I'd recommend you do the Tehran Isfahan Shiraz route, you'll find english speakers everywhere there, bt don't be afraid to visist other cities, especially in the south by the sea.

Pepole are legit the friendliest I've ever met, and the police is pretty chill with foreigners, but like you said, avoid the country right now, avoid taking pictures of military / government buildings, enjoy the great food there and you'll be fine.

If you need more info / a view of it I have posted a few videos from my time there, don't be afraid to contact me through youtube (don't know it really works but frick it), I'll give you all the advices / adresses/ contacts I can : https://youtu.be/VPtAA8JbZNE

re reading my post it feels like i'm shilling for the iranian government, frick their corrupted asses but the people there deserve to get tourist money they genuinly my favorites.

Does the USA still deny you a visa if you’ve ever visited Iran?

yep. i'm australian and i've been to iran, sudan, afghanistan, dprk and now i can't go to the states without a full security clearance and a proper paper visa

They deny you the visa waiver via ESTA, so entering overland should still be possible, if you want to arrive by air you'll have to get a B1/2 visa, if visiting Iran was your only crime then this shouldn't be too much of a hassle besides the visa fee and consulate appointment.

Depends on how you travel to Iran.
If you're flying in and out then you should assume that they have a way to know if they want to hassle you.
If you're going overland then it's much less likely.
Now the question is, do they have a reason to hassle you? There are many Americans who have visited Iran and have both survived their visit as well as their return to the US:

If you're a US citizen it's not like they can deny you entry. Even if they knew, there's nothing they could do.

Probably not too difficult if you find a liberal woman and temporarily marry to share rooms while travelling around the country with her.

Liberal in the Middle East and Liberal in the West are two very different things, do not get them confused.

I was 25 in Iran with pierced ears; one guy offered me a lift than wiener grabbed me. Motorbike driver tried to massage my legs from front of the bike, said “let’s pull down and our pants and compare dicks. The one with the biggest fricks the other.” Pretty sure he had an 9 inch hog which I can’t compete with. Or a tiny wiener and just wanted a dicking. 10 years later and I’m still confused by the entire experience.

Hotel workers asking if I do ‘this’ *insert finger into hole*; hotel owners giving me their email to be ‘friends’ then propositioning me.

These were ‘normal’ guys too, working normal jobs, they didn’t even seem like homosexuals most of the time. The repression is real. Last time jannies deleted this post, not sure what their problem is, Iran is gay. Period.

With that said, all the good things you hear about Iran are true. People are extremely friendly. Ridiculously friendly. They will just give you free stuff. They will invite you over for dinner and really mean it. Women will take you by the hand and show you around town if you just speak English with them (the women are oppressed, but even 10 years ago walking around hand in hand was OK). Food amazing, landscape amazing, history amazing, the amount of mystery + intrigue amazing. It's one of my top countries of all time, up there with Japan.

In places like Iran you can walk around like a Village People tier stereotype because people don't have a well-tuned gaydar.
The internet has brought a lot of potential for the local gay community and they are not afraid to use it.
