Yea it depends. If money is no issue I would say definitely. I have a sister there that let me stay with her for free for a few weeks and I had a blast. I was walking like 20+ miles a day just looking at cool stuff and people watching. Normally I live in a rural area and avoid crowded cities though so it was very different for me, if you already live in a large city it probably isn't that interesting.
I come from a very rural state and city (~5,000) and could not stand manhattan. However, I was mugged twice (bodega and in the middle of the street) and had no choice in what we went to do.

Definitely a LARP. New York City is THE safest large city in the United States. Chances of getting robbed in "the middle of the street" and in a "bodega" are slim-to-none. Chances of both happening over the course of a single, short trip are virtually nonexistent.
TBQH you have to be a moron to get mugged in Manhattan. Guess I could see it happening if anon went on a 2am stroll in Harlem or Washington Heights.
>THE safest large city in the United States
still ten times as dangerous as most first world cities
I lived in NYC for 3 years and was a chud chaser. I was also a dumb kid, so I'd routinely go to chud's places in central Brooklyn/Queens, the Bronx, Harlem, etc, at around 12-4 AM. Never had any physical violence occur to me. >skill issue
>NYC for 3 years and was a chud chaser
Fuck any really hot trannies??
I dont know why trannies decide to post about their fantasies online like this. You know that genuinely nobody is actually interested in trannies right?
People do get mugged/robbed in NYC, and 2022 was an especially bad year for robberies, with 54% more robberies than 2021. Muggers and robbers look for easy targets; it is plausible that a stupid tourist would be stupid enough to get mugged twice.

I was accosted three times by homeless morons during the two weeks I spent there last year.
Some things that have stood out to me reading the local news: a poor naive girl from Missouri was raped on her very first day in the city last year. She followed a random moron to an abandoned part of a station, where he took her by force. Another woman was doused in a bag of shit by a random homeless moron, seemingly for no reason. Another woman got her dog beaten to death by some psycho in Brooklyn while she was walking it in the morning, in a rich part of town.
So some clueless tourist getting mugged twice is a story I can believe. Crazier things happen in New York every day. I have an ex-NYPD boomer uncle who's always telling me all sorts of crazy shit that happened while he was in the force.
well, if you live in East NY or Brownsville or have a penchant to go to the bodega at odd hours like 1AM-4AM then yah you fucking deserve to be jacked. Not gonna call a total LARP here because it is possible
If you have lots of money, sure it is worth seeing for at least week. I would recommend checking out the decommissioned aircraft carrier Nimitz that is turned into a museum alonside the submarine Prowler. You can pay extra for an audio version of the tour, IMHO don't (unless your English is weak and they have the audio in language, then it becomes worth). You can also pay extra to see a space shuttle and a Concorde supersonic passenger plane, skip that also because there is so much to see you will be sick of being there if you see everything in one day.
I would also recommend walking or bicycling on the George Washington bridge, it sways a bit from side to side and it's a cool and free experience. At the other side in Fort Lee, NJ there is a nice park(I forget the name) where you can relax in some shade.

may be soulless but you would rub shoulders with the richest people in the world
you would have access to the hottest gold diggers

That's a big if my friend. But if it really isn't, then why not visit at least? It's unique. I don't think it's amazing but it's at least interesting. Living is a different story i dont think i could do more than a couple months
Born/raised in NY. Moved away 20 yrs ago but made it a point to visit 2-3 times per year since except in the last 5 yrs (longest time away). Went back recently. It's spirit is dead. All the mom/pop restaurants, boutique stores etc, gone. All replaced with new glass apartments and Starbucks. Was disheartening but I know now that I'll never go back. New York City is dead and gone.
There’s nothing like arriving in the middle of Manhattan and just taking in the chaos. It’s expensive and filled with the two worst types of people (New Yorkers and migrants), but it’s a great place spend a few days.
Worth visiting for sure. Not worth living in my opinion. If you’re rich enough to afford a Manhattan apartment, you can live pretty much anywhere else in the world. Only reason I’d stay in Manhattan at that point would be for work, e.g. if you worked on Wall Street.
If money wasn't an issue yeah I would buy the highest luxury condo in the city and live like a king.
But in reality living there is so expensive that it's shit even for single digit and low double digit millionaires
>Visit in 2014: "Well I did all the touristy things and most likely wont come back" >2023: "Oh"
So what do you do and see if you already did all the initial touristy crap?
coming from a rather small city I'd say it's worth it to visit it at least once
see the high line, times square, empire state etc,
just walking around the city and seeing how people live there and treat it as normal is quite an experience
I however wouldn't be able to stay there for over a week, literally started getting headaches from the amount of noise and people around non-stop and I was there for just 4 days
Completely changed my perspective on where I want to live
Assuming you're under 30, definitely spend some time in the East Village. A good chunk of the residents here are longtime locals and college - new grads so most of the food and drink spots are on the cheaper side compared to all the other parts of Manhattan (Queens, BK obviously have cheaper areas).
History of East Village is so cool especially with the elements of punk and counter culture that are still alive today. Check out St. Mark's Place (8th street) and see what I mean.
There is a daily livestreamer who lives in East Village called Mr Based NYC where you can see what life is like there from his IRL adventures.
There are some tourist traps but a lot of the East Village dining is still pretty genuine. Here are my recommendations:
SIT DOWNS:
Cafe Mogador - Mediterranean food
Death and Co - Rated as a Top 10 cocktail bar in the world, impressive staff who memorized all the bottles that are UNLABELED. expect to be seated here, not much socializing with other patrons besides bartender.
Soothr - expect a line, best Thai in city
Taqueria St. Marks - decent tacos, cheap margs
Sake Bar Decibel
GRAB AND GO:
Electric Burrito - Could get a football sized burrito for $13 (cheap for NYC)
7th Street Burger (don't get their fries, walk to the chippery for better fries)
Birria for Tacos
The Chippery - best "chips" in city. the circular fries are amazing
Sushi is great too but more expensive so I don't get it often.
Go to KazuNori and expect a line for handrolls at a very fair price with tip included
Librae Bakery is fantastic, expect a line Fri-Sun. They use premium ingredients and it has a Middle Eastern twist but don't let it dissuade ya. Pricy for East Village but there's a reason why they call it best bakery in NYC
Le Fournil is a great but lesser known French bakery, good prices for anything French, goto for croissants
C&B - Your classic bakery, best donuts in East Village and they make a small quantity
Wildair - Best donut in NYC but you can only get it Saturday mornings at Noon. They only make a few dozen a day as they are a restaurant mainly. Lower East Side but close enoough to walk from East Village
I have a lot of other recommendations across city or in East Village if you're interested.
NYC feels like a waste and is shitty if you don't do your research where you go eat, drink, and go out at. Too many tourist traps and low quality bodegs to count.
If you're gonna pay NYC prices or slightly more, at least it will be really fucking good. Good luck in the Big Apple
Tompkins Square Park is a great park to People Watch and hang out. No tourists and no salespeople trying to sell you weed like Washington Square Park.
Tompkins has a skate park, wall ball, basketball courts, a workout area (pull up bars, dips, etc) and it has 2 dog parks which are fun to watch.
I can’t afford it. Otherwise, I would move to New York. For now, I live in the Philly suburbs and am debating whether I should move into Philly or further out into the country.
I just don’t see the appeal of Manayunk. You’re paying Philly prices (and taxes) to live in what is effectively Conshohocken. I either want to get near Center City or leave the metro area entirely.
Depends on if you really like the city life or not. I enjoyed having all the different food options and whatnot but I prefer the outdoors.

LARP post. The chances of you getting mugged twice are astronomically slim.

biased but yes, I'd recommend any of the following: west village, Chinatown, east village, central park, little Italy, meatpacking, Tribeca.
Yeah, if you have money, and can truly experience it: it's great.

I love pictures of New York. It just amazes me that so many people live in that small but organised space,
Born/raised in NY. Moved away 20 yrs ago but made it a point to visit 2-3 times per year since except in the last 5 yrs (longest time away). Went back recently. It's spirit is dead. Can you recommend any other cities?
What the fuck are you on about ? It’s at least 50% mom and pop shops
Is it weird that I prefer Starbucks over locally-owned businesses? It's less talking and socially anxiety.
Visiting yes, fascinating. Living idk. Visiting again? Only if invited.
There’s nothing like arriving in the middle of Manhattan and just taking in the chaos. It’s expensive and filled with the two worst types of people (New Yorkers and migrants), but it’s a great place spend a few days.
visit ny is you love moron crime on yhe streets and in government

It depends on the size and location of your place and how easily you can avoid using public transit in my opinion.

Not sure what Philly suburbs is but maybe look into Manayunk if you are on the younger side / unmarried and don't want Philly prices
I just don’t see the appeal of Manayunk. You’re paying Philly prices (and taxes) to live in what is effectively Conshohocken. I either want to get near Center City or leave the metro area entirely.
Philly prices? Where are you looking in Manayunk? Center City prices are wayy higher, Center city drinks are probably $5 more
Don't understand your question. If money is no issue, you can bring about any experience anywhere. You don't even need to travel.
living, no. visiting, yes.
