As someone from the rich suburbs of Philly, Philly fucking sucks but NJ sucks way more. NYC is cool but not worth the price unless you're making 150k+. I've lived in San Francisco and prefer it to Philly and that's saying something
How big of a shithole is NYC? Also it looks cheaper to stay on the Jersey side and go into NYC than staying in one of the outer boroughs, is it worth it? For visiting purposes.

depends on where you want to go. if its a 3-4 day trip seeing the historical stuff, art museum, barnes collection and oldtown, go to philly. if you want to spend any more time than that go to nyc.
