Just go. You never know when you can have another opportunity to visit. People seem to forget that France is an entire country and not just Paris.

Are you there right now? I want to go but I need to convince my mom.

I'm flying into Paris and staying there for around 10 days at the end of April. I'm an American poorfag, so I'm just renting the cheapest private accommodation I can find on the outskirts of Paris and taking the metro into the city center on most days. For the other days, I'll rent a car to visit some things in Normandy and Hauts-de-France. I don't really know what to say in order to convince your mother aside from that you should take any opportunity to travel because life is unpredictable. Most people aren't even able to travel because they either can't afford it or their schedule doesn't allow for it (school/work/family/etc.). I spent the past 5 years since high school working and never had the opportunity to travel until now, so I'm taking advantage of the time while I still have it. The tourist areas of Paris are as safe as your average city as long as you don't interact with the scammers.
Did you have an itinerary of what you or your mom planned to see? Or how long you planned to stay? For ideas, try looking at websites like TripAdvisor, Atlas Obscura, or just searching "things to do in Paris" to get a general idea.

          >The tourist areas of Paris are as safe as your average city as long as you don't interact with the scammers.
Lol. I don't mean to discourage you, but if you're staying in the "outskirts" of Paris, you will NOT be anywhere near the tourist areas. Can you at least reach the city center via metro? If you're staying near the banlieues, expect /misc/ to be vindicated: there are ill-behaved blacks and Arabs everywhere.

By outskirts, I should've clarified as outside of Paris city limits near CDG. Yes, I can still reach the city center via the metro system or a shuttle bus line. The "tourist area" sentence was just in the context of OPs situation if they still plan to go.

I got a cheap hostel bed last time I was in Paris, I found it it was so cheap because it was just next door to a church with a big bell that went BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG every hour. It was walking distance from the eiffel tower though so it was reasonable.

Paris suuuuucks. If you already booked then catch a quick flight over to Italy and enjoy it instead. Florence and Rome will more than make up for whatever you thought you wanted to do or see in Paris.

I liked Paris tbh, there are lots of annoying touts and scammers in the tourist areas but that goes for a lot of tourist destinations. Go to the catacombs and look at scary skellingtons.

If your mom did cancel, where would she go instead?

This. If you aren't pants on head retarded, you can easily get by in Paris without getting scammed or seeing many africans. I've been twice and each time was largely pleasant. People who complain are speds who refuse to
adapt to locals or mad that tourist spots are full of tourists and not empty spaces for instagram.

As for now its not the ideal time, every week theres strikes due to the pension reforms including public transports and garbage disposal.
Will be better in a month

You could jump on a $25 train from Paris and be in Heidelberg Germany in 3 hours. That's what I would do instead. You could see old castles and enjoy a vacation in a nice city with zero crime and no fucking africans

I was there 2 weeks ago, all i'd heard for years was that its a shithole with gangs everywhere
I was very pleasantly surprised by how nice it is. River seine and down around all those landmarks is very nice, literally just around the eiffel tower there's lucky lucky men as well as roma gangsters running games.

Food was a bit underwhelming for what I expected, coffee in particular is not that good. Pubs are fine but we didnt happen upon a good one, couldnt get into any decent night clubs because we were 4 dudes. Never felt unsafe really, subway looks dodgy but the people dont bother with you. The French really do insist on you speaking french however, we knew enough to get by.

It's because their English sucks, and they don't want to embarrass themselves

Food can be excellent but you need to avoid most cafés for that, although they are still ok. And coffee is notoriously shit in France, it's more of a social thing as an excuse to interact with random strangers than a beverage on its own.

I live here and have barely noticed it

Maybe depends on the neighborhood, but there's a pile of trash on every corner, sometimes they line the streets and are taller than people, and now it's starting to stink. They'll probably clean it up by the end of the week but even then with the strikes + shit weather it's really the worst time to visit Paris. It's like Napoli on a regular day lol

Also OP don't believe the /misc/ memes, you're not gonna get raped by refugees or whatever, there's some shit neighborhoods, but as a tourist you have no reason to go there and even if you go you'll be fine, it's not detroit.

I live in the 18th and we don't have this issue because the 18th uses a private company to pick up trash. Private = no strike.
Areas that use public trash collecting are currently fucked and I have seen literal walls of trash (in Pigalle for example), it was disgusting.

It's not 6 trash bags, it's over 5000 tons. Maybe if you're a 3rd worlder it's nothing unusual for you, but generally i'd avoid going on vacation in a place where 2m tall piles of trash line the streets.
