Is Traveling to China Dangerous? New US State Department Travel Advisory

China is one the most popular destinations with 60.7 million visitors in 2017. It ranks fourth in the world, after France, Spain and the United States. But is it safe for Americans?

The US State Department issued a travel advisory earlier this month, warning Americans to exercise increased caution when visiting China due to what it called arbitrary enforcement of local laws and special restrictions on dual U.S.-Chinese nationals.

The State Department says that Chinese authorities have asserted broad authority to prohibit U.S. citizens from leaving China by using ‘exit bans,’ sometimes keeping U.S. citizens in China for years. China uses exit bans coercively:

to compel U.S. citizens to participate in Chinese government investigations,
to lure individuals back to China from abroad, and
to aid Chinese authorities in resolving civil disputes in favor of Chinese parties.

      >Article 3 The People's Republic of China does not recognize dual nationality for any Chinese national. Article 4 Any person born in China whose parents are both Chinese nationals or one of whose parents is a Chinese national shall have Chinese nationality.

the only people getting their passports clipped are chinese who have dual nationality and either 1 return to china on the non-chinese passport and get found out at passport control who then wreck their foreign passport because it is illegal to 2 passports of you are chinese or 2 return on their chinese passport and then the passport control finds out they have dual nationality and so wreck their chinese passport.
they are not clipping any passports of non-chinese.

if you are no chinese then you are safe if you follow laws. if you are chinese and have "defected" then you might get hassle if the chink spy network knows who you are. if you are just some dude visiting your grandparents then no one cares.
if you are white, old men will ask you if what country you are from and then say joe biden is a pussy.
no one is going to give a shit about some anon on holiday.
      you can't even go anyway.

Lived in China for years and unless you include the two Micheals, I never heard of these "exit bans" on foreigners.

As a Michael, should I avoid China at all costs? They seem to have some bizarre anti-Michael agenda.

That 60.7 million visitors number is complete bullshit. The actual number is way, way lower.

I think they count transits or some shit like that, or foreign-born chinks that go to China to see relatives on a tourist visa. I agree, there were barely any truly foreign tourists.

    Don't bother dude.
There are random Covid lockdowns everywhere in China. What are you going to do if they decide the city you're visiting or the compound you're staying at is locked down for a month? You can't leave. You don't even speak Chinese. How will you get food and shit?

Even China shill foreigners paid by the CCP are leaving China because of this.

they have bureaucracy. i was in the 2022 lockdown and they sent someone to my door everyday from the compound admin staff to check on me. police came around every few days. you get weixin grouped and the compound administration looks after you.
shit would suck if you were in a poor compound, but why would be there anyway?

Just make sure you say "oh China is so much cooler than insert country" or else you might get disappeared. Also don't mention Taiwan, or Hong Kong, or Winnie the Pooh, or the one child act, or birthrate or Uygers or ... hang on there's a knock on the door.

I actually worked there and shit like that happens
I came home to my apartment and the owner was inside with some random Chinese government guy I was like wtf are you doing here and they were like "ohhhhh nothing nothing" and left. I told the owner not to go into my apartment again but he probably did.
Then in another apartment I was in the same shit happened except I was inside and I hear the fricking door being unlocked and they open and see me and just close it and leave.
      China is fricking nuts.

I used to watch those two english teacher in China and they said this common. Foreigners get investigated for every little thing that happens nearby and police just roll on in, no consequence. I heard it's pretty hostile to foriengers atm.

You think they would be a little more advanced and careful to monitor and be like okay he isnt home now. Nope just total morons and go in whenever.
Also the AC repair guy shat in my toilet and threw cigs wrapper in it and clogged it and I had to call the owner and be like who the frick did he hire clean it or I am just going to buy a ticket and leave china after fricking the whole apartment up kek (this was after they already went into my apartment randomly so it wasnt because of that)

I really don't care about Reddit Island, Reddit City, or any of those things.

The biggest problem right now are sudden, arbitrary and strict lockdowns for what is effectively a season respiratory virus that can never be eliminated..

Where were you? I've been to China five times and never had this happen; not even in rural places. I've never been to Xinjiang though
