It’s the same posts each week in here just worded differently come up with some original material
There are a lot of useless threads that can be summarized as: >Airports suck stories >Flights suck stories >Hostel stories >Coomer threads are all the same >Paris is bad >India is bad >sighsee tourist who made 200 bucks yesterday and thinks that's safe enough to nomad >4chan tourist making bait threads >/int/ shitpost thread that people fall for every time
Probably left out some. At least story threads usually have a few fun stories. I spend too many hours here.
I'm one of the few RealTravelers™ left here, and the problem is that there is no point trying to ask questions about trips, because no one here travels anymore, and theres very rarely any questions from anons actually planning a trip, and most of those are just googleable shit or completely vague like 'do I need X to go to this country' or 'is switzerland nice?'. This used to be the best board on sighsee, now its possibly the worst.
I have a feeling it will take a year for this board to recover from post-covid. Or maybe the site has just been too infested at this point that even sighsee is irredeemable.
The few good threads barely get any responses over the SEA coom threads, and end up being killed by some frogposter from /int/ asking if someone can find him a good deal on flights to Rome.
sighsee has always had its ups and downs. Right now it's still in its down period but it will bounce back up as always. Usually the bad periods come when retards from 4chan discover this place and spam it with their shit.
I really hope it gets better but I think it could be over. The internet is becoming more and more under 18 year olds using there phone to access it, and this whole website has been increasingly turning into reddit as it keeps getting exposure to normies every time there's an incel attack or a youtuber mentions it. Add on to that that the this board is originally a very slow board and it doesnt take many people to completely ruin it.
Your post is half truth half projection.
Yes people are influenced by youtube and influencers. But before that it was by tv, movies and even before that by books (how many people did the Jack Kerouac shit?). So of you think you're original, you're not really.
And also, it's ok to ask what you can to in whatever country.
Without internet, i would think Dubai is just empty malls, but you can visit old Dubai, rent a camel, sleep in the desert, basejump and so on. It's ok to ask this.
What he was saying was right, and you're just coping because you feel personally attacked. You're right that its ok to be inspired to visit somewhere because of a book or something, I read the baburnama recently, and since then I visited the region of babur's native homeland, and intend to visit afghanistan because he describes all these places beautifully and I got interested in the places he was passing through and staying and I started researching about them and the people and history of these places. What the other anon was talking about is people who feel the need to travel to flex on others or fit in, not because they're interested in where they're going. These are the people who turn up, go to all the meme places, pose in front of them to take lots of photos for instagram, then lounge around in the hotel looking miserable on their phone for the rest of the days they're booked there.

I feel you buddy. I am on sighsee since early 2007, and on sighsee since it was created (I believe it was part of the first batch of “new boards”, along with /new/ which was 4chan‘s former name).
In general the site has gone to the shitter since gamergate, I would say. It slowly gets worse each year from this point. I don’t blame 4chan, because it existed for a long time now, and every single thing on the internet is shit now.
But memeflu was a nail on the coffin. Covid didn’t only ruin sighsee, but the whole internet in general. The quality for the whole of it really got extremely bad. I haven’t logged on youtube for about 6-7 months now, when I used to check it daily. It’s just no longer the same. Everything is bad now.
As for travels, I think it’s the new approach that sucks badly. Many people only get inspired by influencers and social media, causing overtourism. When people ask vague questions such as “what should I do in X” or “what to see in [insert extremely major capital city full of culture and history]”, then they weren’t meant to travel. It means something pressured them to do it (social pressure because everybody is doing it?).
I mean holy fuck dude you’re going to fucking Paris and London or Florence, and you have no idea what to do? It’s not even fucking Somalia, in which it may cover some niche (birdwatching, nature etc).

If it affects you on a personal level, nothing wrong with it, and I even think literary inspiration is great. Historically people traveled because they were inspired by literature, music and visual arts.
I myself went to many countries because of their music and literature, and also I like history so I usually read a history book of each country, as many as I can. Arts as a gate opener for a country are great. It makes your trip easier to organise and you know where to go/what to do, for most of the time.
I just think social media influencers are very shallow in general and even a boomer guide like Lonely Planet is infinitely more inspiring than them. Getting inspiration from them is pure cancer and not very rewarding.
Sincerely, how many of these threads of “what to do in [major city for arts and history with plenty of food and bars]” are a result of peer pressure?
Instagram female influencers are total shit i agree, because they only promote consumerism and narcissism.
But it's popular to shit on every influencer for no reason.
Guys like Bald get shit on, but he's all about talking about the culture of the (soviet) countries he is visiting and meeting locals. Same for Vagrant Holiday.
Most influencers have a redeeming quality to them (except insta bitches).
I don’t consider Vagrant Holiday to be an influencer. For me, an influence is simply someone who makes paid promotion shit with a stupid as fuck picture or video and that’s it.
As for Bald, he only covered places that 90% of people wouldn’t go, it’s a bit different.
You can make your own posts

welcome to sighsee
Reading this made me depressed.
