Go with a chaperone, not alone.

I’m a 25 year old woman. There’s no chaperone esp since my mother thinks solo travel as a woman is dangerous.

There are also female travel apps where you can meet up with other women that also travel. Forget what it's called

Why? You can't even leave your house and you want to throw yourself into a foreign nation?

Stop pretending to be a woman and it won’t be so dangerous. Problem solved

Most airports have a website with a map where you can see your terminal/gate/etc. There are so many signs inside that if you know where you need to go it's next to impossible to get lost, and just in case you do there are plenty of staff whose job is to help customers get to where they need to go.

Social anxiety is fake. You can get yourself out of it with your will. Stop being a homosexual and get your shit together.
Airports have signs everywhere and even an utter moron who can barely read managed to navigate through.

Airport designs their signs in a way that people who don't speak the language can navigate them and find their gate so you'll be fine. Most airlines have an app that will tell you what gate you need to go to if you can't figure out the departure board.
I don't know what country you're from but here in the UK most airports will give you a sunflower lanyard if you go to the accessibility desk that lets the staff know you have a hidden disability (anxiety) so the staff know to give you extra help.
I guess you could contact the airline you're flying with a few days before your flight and see if they can arrange for a tard wrangler to help you out at the airport with checking in.
Since you're going on a group tour they might be there to help you out through the whole thing if you meet up before flying out so I wouldn't stress out as much. Just stay with the guide at the airport.

I don’t think I’m “disabled” enough for that tbh… like if I say I have social anxiety they would just laugh, no?

why don't you just look for the big desk that has someone sat behind it, and say 'i'm a little overwhelmed, can you please help me' and they'll say 'ok' and then help you

the tricky part is putting on your big boy pants and doing this, but when you've done it once it's easier the next time

Because I would rather have a plan beforehand than showing up and praying for the best with the front desk person

fair enough. in that case, i'd simply look up where you'll be flying from and to, they'll probably have a 'passenger guide' or something on their website saying here's what to do when you arrive, here's where you go next, probably with maps and stuff.

like i absolutely completely 100% promise that 'i don't travel often, where should i be going / what should i be doing now' will not be new or annoying to anybody who works at an airport or any travel place really

Where do you want to travel and what do you want to do there? Where are you from? Do you know you need a passport to go to different countries?

Just don't be a pussy. And I say that as an turbo autist loner weirdo. For fricks sake, just follow the signs and ask at the counters.

3rd worlders who can't read and dont speak english make it through the airport, im sure you'll be fine

3rd worlders have gone through bigger logistical hassles just to get food on the table before they got to the point of getting to any airport.

I'm about to depart on a solo trip too for the first time. I realised that it's okay to not know what to do. There are staff at the airport and people everywhere you can ask for help. I have social anxiety too (not too extreme) but as long as I can ask "how do I get to X or how do I do this", they'll just give you the answer and be on their way.

      Good luck.

For sure. No one is born knowing how to travel alone, it's something you learn. I think it could even help with anxiety on then long run. Like after the trip you might slowly realize, huh, that wasn't so bad. Or maybe after the second trip. Idk.
For me planning and having clear daily goals helped a lot at the beginning. I still check eg. airport maps and all that. But now it's more for fun, just to compare how each airport is designed.

Also OP.... I think you should start smaller. If you don't even go out, why not just start by going to a library in the neighboring town or something? If the trip is already booked, do it, but also make sure you have your preferred anti-anxiety meds at hand (and that they are legal at your destination). Or set up a ritual already.
Remember to take your noise canceling headphones with you.

I guess threads like this were inevitable after Japan opened back up. How long until /jpeg starts getting posts from anons crying in their hotel rooms and hungry because they're scared to go to the convenience store?

Adventure builds character. Thing about adventure is that it requires adversity or a challenge to be overcome. You need to have confidence in yourself to meet those challenges, however small they may be.

There is no social role to perform in an airport, so that's a big aspect of social anxiety which has no bearing in one. You are just making increasingly focused adjustments to your path through the building until you are finally looking for your seat number on the plane, everything about the airport is set up to direct you on that path. Finding your way around a foreign airport will be harder than the your home airport, though you can watch videos and get a basic idea when you know what airport you'll be landing at.

I just got back from my first ever trip abroad solo at 29 after spending about 10 years mostly as a shut in who worries too much and struggles with basic shit that most people do regularly. The process is simple, there are signs/boards absolutely everywhere and worst case you can always ask someone to point you in the right direction or for help. Airports can seem intimidating because of their size and how busy they are, but you'll honestly be fine. Pick somewhere you really want to visit and go for it.
